Top Ten Tuesday Turns 10! Which book characters would you be best friends with?

TTT was created by The Broke and Bookish and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl (click here for upcoming TTT topics!).

Top Ten Tuesday Turns 10! Option 1: pick a past TTT topic you’ve done and re-do/update it (Perhaps you’d remove certain books you put on the list back when you first wrote it, or perhaps you have 10 MORE books you’d add to that list now. You could also re-visit TBR posts, whether seasonal or series you need to finish, etc., and tell us if you’ve read them yet or not. Any variation of this idea works. Feel free to be creative.) Option 2: pick a past TTT topic you wish you’d done, but didn’t get a chance to do (the list of topics is below).

Since I just started with TTT I decided to choose Option 2 and picked the following topic:

Which book characters would you be best friends with?

Top Ten Tuesday Link-up – Book Characters I’d Love to Be Besties With

1.) Nikolai Lantsov & Nina Zenik from „King of Scars“ by Leigh Bardugo

36307634. sy475
Seriously, who wouldn’t want to be friends with those two? Nikolai is so extra and I love him for it! I think we’d get along splendidly and I’m prett sure we’d be famous for our one-liners. 😛 *lol* And Nina Zenik! Let’s be honest here: This girl could step on me and I’d be thankful for the physical contact. XD I’d love to be Nina’s waffle partner in crime! ❤

2.) Simon Spiers from „Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda“ by Becky Albertalli

Simon is such a precious cinnamon roll and I’m convinced if he’d be real, we’d be besties. We have a lot in common and I think we’d be something like twins without actually being twins. *lol* Of all the book characters I encountered through the years, he was the most relatable one and I’d love to geek out about Harry Potter! We could make movie nights with popcorn and talk about thousands of things. In short: Forget about Leah, Simon! Take me as your bestie!!! *lol*

3.) Mia Corvere & Mr. Kindly from „Nevernight“ by Jay Kristoff

34503674. sy475 Who wouldn’t want to be friends with an assassin and her not-cat? I’m sure life with Mia and Mr. Kindly would never get boring. Also she always got her friends back. They are both super loyal and would defend the ones they love with claws and teeth. It’s really hard to find friends like that and if you do, you should value them like a treasure trove.  ❤

4.) Lucien Vanserra & basically everyone from the inner circle from „ACOTAR“ by Sarah J. Maas (but mostly Lucien)

16096824. sy475

It’s no secret that I love and adore Lucien and of course there are plenty of reasons for my unfaltering and undying affection. One of them the simple fact that he’s such a great friend! And I mean it! The inner circle, Feyre and Rhys they all speak about what they’d do for the people they love, but they rarely act on it. Of course they ocassionaly do it but Lucien? Lucien is always action and passion! His eye got ripped out because of his loyalty to Tam, he was whipped because he helped Feyre in the trials, hell he even kind of sold his body when Tam couldn’t do the solstice ritual. And despite all of this he’d still do everything possible to help his friends. (See Tam in ACOFAS) So yes, if I ever have to face an evil fae king or queen he’s really the only one I’d want to have at my side. XD

5.) Tohru Honda from „Fruits Basket“ by Natsuki Takaya

271199. sx318 I love Tohru!!! This girl is amazing! No matter how tough her own life is, she always cares about everyone else. She’s the most caring and precious person I know and her love for her friends is unconditional. Tohru will go through thick and thin with you and accept you for who you are! With a friend like her you’ll never feel alone and quite honestly she’s my role model when it comes to friendships. I strive to be like Tohru when I’m grown-up. *lol*

6.) The Gangsey from „The Raven Cycle“ by Maggie Stiefvater

17675462. sy475 Did you really think I could pick just one of them? *lol* No, nopedy nope! I want to be a part of the Gangsey and I want to be friends with all of those lovely people! Even Henry (I love Henry) and Blue! XD They are all so amazing and I’d die for each and every single one of them. Yes, they are fictional but hell, I’d love to have them as my friends!!! ❤ Or to say it with a quote: „In that moment, Blue was a little in love with all of them. Their magic. Their quest. Their awfulness and strangeness. Her raven boys.“

7.) Niall, Seth and Irial from „Wicked Lovely“ by Melissa Marr

305234 I just love all of them, okay?! XD Seth is such an easy laid back kind of guy and Niall is his best friend and they are just great together. 😀 I’d love to spend some time with them and of course I’d love to be friends with Irial!!! ❤ Yes, he has some sharp edges but boy when you look past his cruelty you’re able to see his precious and soft heart. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for the ones he cares about and he’s awesome. Period. *lol*

8.) Kenji Kishimoto from „Shatter Me“ by Tahereh Mafi

40863452 I love Kenji’s humor and everyone who is allowed to be his friend is blessed!! That boy is made of awesome sauce and no one can persuade me otherwise. I love how he seems to be the glue who keeps everyone together and I’d be happy to talk about Bruce Lee with him! *lol* He’s always supportive and this even though he might not agree with you and even though he’s funny he can still be serious if need be. What’s not to love?

9.) Jem Carstairs & Magnus Bane from „The Infernal Devices“ by Cassandra Clare

7171637. sy475 Jem is such a precious soul and I’ll never get over his fate! I love that he’s a musician and I’m sure we’d get along fine just talking about music. He’s very wise for his age too and I’d love to talk about god and the world with him. XD Tessa’s and his conversations were always so intriguing and even though he’s calm most of the times he can be really passionate too! ❤ As for Magnus: I need that funny and sparkling jewel in my life!!! Magnus and I would hit it off with each other in no time and our lives would never get boring. We could be a walking and talking chaos together and even though a few drinks too many might get us a raised eyebrow from Alec we’d still continue giggling. *lol*

10.) Harry Dresden from „The Dresden Files“ by Jim Butcher

47212. sy475 Harry is so much fun! Like seriously, I love his self-deprecating humour and he might have few friends but those few he actually has he values highly! He’s once again a character with a lot of rough edges but what can I say? I love myself some rough edges. 😛 They keep things and in this case friendships interesting. XD I’d love to be one of Harry’s few trusted friends even though I already know that it would get me in trouble big time. But you know what they say: No risk, no fun! 😛

What do you think? Would you like to be best friends with some of the characters I chose too? Do we have some in common? And are there any book characters you’d never want to be friends with?

Talk to me and let me know! 😛

Top Ten Tuesday: Opening Lines

TTT was created by The Broke and Bookish and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl (click here for upcoming TTT topics!).

This time around the topic is:

Opening Lines (Best, favorite, funny, unique, shocking, gripping, lines that grabbed you immediately, etc.)

I’m sure you can tell that I had a field day doing this! I live and breathe for quotes so this was the perfect TTT tag for me! ❤ And so without further ado let’s jump right into the fun!

1.) Beartown by Fredrik Backman

31443394. sy475

„Late one evening towards the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barrelled shotgun, walked into the forest, put the gun to someone else’s forehead, and pulled the trigger.

This is the story of how we got there.“

Now if that isn’t a way to catch your readers attention, then I don’t know! XD This is quite a start for a book and I was immediately captured. Also Fredrik Backman’s writing is so good! ❤ I love this book!

2.) A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

23403402. sy475

„Kell wore a very peculiar coat. It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible.“

I’ve become such a huge V.E. Schwab fan and I’m going to read each and every single one of her books! With this first sentence I was already intrigued, the mere idea of a coat that has more than one side something completely different than we’re used to. There isn’t only magic in the title it’s also in the book! 😉

3.) The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

„It was night again. The Waystone Inn lay in silence, and it was a silence of three parts.“

Ahh, rarely did a first line capture my attention the way this one did. The prologue of „The Name of the Wind“ is one of the best prologues I’ve ever had the pleasure to read and considering how many books I already read this actually says quite a lot! XD Definitely one of my favourite opening lines and books! ❤

4.) The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

„Blue Sargent had forgotten how many times she’d been told that she would kill her true love.“

I wouldn’t be me if I wouldn’t have used „The Raven Cycle“ for this TTT. *lol* But seriously, how could you not continue with this book after reading the opening line? A girl that knows she’s going to kill her true love?! It’s definitely a unique and new approach. 😛

5.) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

„Late in the winter of my seventeeth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.“

I really loved this book with all my heart and I cried an ocean at the end. The way it started says so much about Hazel the MC and as a bookworm it also makes you relate to her. I mean we all have a favourite book we read over and over again so this first sentence resonated a lot with me. 😀

6.) White Oleander by Janet Fitch

„The Santa Anas blew in hot from the desert, shriveling the last of the spring grass into whiskers of pale straw. Only the oleanders thrived, their delicate poisonous blooms, their dagger green leaves.“

It’s been ages I read this but I sill remember the beautiful prose. „White Orleander“ was probably the first book that showed me how you could capture your audience with your writing alone and after this first line I was hooked and couldn’t stop reading anymore!

7.) Dry by Neal Shusterman

„The kitchen faucet makes the most bizarre sounds. It coughs and wheezes like it’s gone asthmatic. It gurgles like someone drowning. It spits once, and then goes silent.“

Now that’s a book I just finished reading and after the first sentence I was already thirsty. *lol* This opening line sets everything into motion and I think Neal Shusterman did a great job of describing a world without water. I just hope we’ll never experience anything like it in real life.

8.) Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

34503674. sy475

„People often shit themselves when they die.“
Well, I guess we can all agree that this is quite a unique start for a book. *lol* It’s such a short sentence but it really sticks with you. And the story that follows this kick-off, was at least as intriguing as the beginning of the book. 🙂 Nevernight was such a surprise for me and I really enjoyed this book! Tbh I can’t wait to dive into „Godsgrave“ soon.

9.) Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien de Castell

20887238. sy475

„Pretend, just for a moment, that you have attained your most deep-seated desire. Not the simple, sensible one you tell your friends about, but the dream that’s so close to your heart that even as a child you hesitated to speak it out loud.“

This was one of the books my Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs blog meme brought to my attention. It was lost somewhere on my TBR and even though I couldn’t remember adding it, I’ve to admit that I’m really enjoying it right now. This first sentence definitely made me curious about the rest of the book and so far it’s been a fast and enjoyable read.

10.) Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

„I’ve been locked up for 264 days. I have nothing but a small notebook and a broken pen and the numbers in my head to keep me company. 1 window. 4 walls. 144 square feet of space. 26 letters in an alphabet I haven’t spoken in 264 days of isolation.“

If this opening line doesn’t get your attention, then not many things will. XD It was this first sentence that caused me to start with the „Shatter Me“ series and I’ve been a huge fan ever since! Is there a lot of drama, hell YES there is! But I’m loving it and Tahereh Mafi’s writing style is amazing! (At least for me it is! I know there are a lot of readers out there that would beg to differ. *lol*)

What do you think about the opening lines I chose? Would you have continued to read the books? Did you read any of them and if yes, did you enjoy them? Were some of them able to pique your interest?

Talk to me and let me know! 😛

Top Ten Tuesday: Titles That Would Make Good Band Names

TTT was created by The Broke and Bookish and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl (click here for upcoming TTT topics!).

Hey there, my lovelies!

I’ve seen this about a thousand times on other bloggers sites and decided that I’d give it a shot. I usually don’t post on Tuesdays but I think I’ll make an exception for this one. So from now on I’ll do one of those „Top Ten Tuesday“ posts every month. 😉

It’s a small start but it’s a start and I hope my blog will get a little bit more interesting once again!

This said, let’s jump right into the fun! XD

„10 Titles That Would Make Good Band Names“ (It’s like I’ve been waiting for a topic like this to come up! I love music and this is so perfect for my TTT start!)

White Hot Kiss

This series was so addicting and I always thought that this first book sounded like a band name! *lol* I mean „White Hot Kiss“ you can already imagine the rock music just reading the title. 😛

Radiant Shadows

Okay, this is already book four in Melissa Marr’s „Wicked Lovely“ series but you’ve to admit that the title is amazing! As is the entire series! If you love faeries and a slightly darker atmosphere in your books, well then this one’s for you! It was the first series that got me into faeries and I can’t get enough of them ever since. I think a band named „Radiant Shadows“ might go for rock, alternative or indie music, don’t you agree? Maybe something like „Imagine Dragons“?

The Raven Boys

Don’t tell me you didn’t see that one coming! *lol* Seriously, how could I not choose „The Raven Boy’s“ for this TTT! They are perfect! Not only the name of the book but they are four boys and they are all different but like a family! If they would be a band every girl would find a type they’d like. Like Gansey would be the handsome girl crush, Ronan the bad boy, Adam the clever rebel and Noah the shy baby. Haha! Ahh you can already tell I gave way too much thought to this. XD Anyway, they’d obviously be a pop band or a band like BTS! *lol*

The Fault In Our Stars

One of my favourite John Green books and definitely a good name for a band. If you ask me they’d either make super slow music like Damien Rice or they’d go for something like „Panic! At The Disco“. XD And yep, their fans would shorten the band name and say: „OMG the TFIOS concert last night was amazing!“ 😉

The Subtle Knife

Gosh, I loved this series when I was in my teens! It was something different and new and I really, really loved to watch the characters grow. 😀 As for the kind of music „The Subtle Knife“ would make: Something very atmospheric along the lines of „Florence and the Machine“ or „Ruelle“?!

Empire of Storms

Is it just me or does this title actually scream for metal, hard-rock or screamo? *lool* I mean even the cover! XD I could imagine a band with a title playing this kind of music so well and with all the fighting scenes I’m sure the crew of EoS would approve! 😛

Lord of Shadows

30312891. sy475

Now that sounds kind of dark and sinister! Totally hard rock or heavy metal! Funnily enough it could either go all „Lordi“ or „Iron Maiden“. I think my mind just can’t decide. To be honest, the plot of the book wouldn’t be heavy metal though. XD Cassandra Clare probably would go all like O_o when she reads this. Haha!

This already sounds rather soothing and slow so I’m pretty sure „Wintersong“ would make music like Lana Del Rey or Imogen Heap. Since Liesl and the Goblin King like to play the piano I could also imagine something like Ludovico Einaudi’s music. And if you have no idea who that is you should definitely youtube (is that even a word??) him! He composes some of the most beautiful piano pieces ever! ❤

Flame in the Mist

For some reason I can’t stop thinking of 2Cellos. „Flame in the Mist“ sounds like it would combine classic instruments with modern songs, but then again I can also imagine music like „Passenger“ makes it. Mhmm… that’s a tough one. I suppose a band with a name like that could try a lot of different styles. 😛

Annie on My Mind

Okay, so this is an LGBTQ+ book with an f/f relationship so you can’t blame me for thinking about „Tegan and Sara“ or „Hozier“ when I wonder about which kind of music this band would make! XD But honestly, they both make slow and beautiful music and this book was very slow and beautiful too so this would fit the overall mood perfectly!

What do you think? Did you like the book titles I chose? Did you read any of the books I mentioned? Do you like the kind of music I matched them to? Do you disagree with my music/band choices? What kind of book titles and bands would you have chosen?

Talk to me and let me know! 😛
