The Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus Character Book Tag

Graphics by May @ Forever and Everly

I saw this awesome tag at May’s page (Forever and Everly) and immediately wanted to do it. Hell, I would have even done it without being tagged but my amazing friend Sabrina @ Notes From A Paper Plane Nomad knows me too well and tagged me before I even knew it. *lol* So thank you sooo much for thinking of me! ❤

As May already mentioned in her blog post it’s not necessary to have read any of the books before you do this tag. All the prompts are spoiler-free! 😉 And now to the fun part! YAY! As a huge Percy Jackson fan I can’t wait to do this! XD

I could have chosen so many great books to be my „Percy Jackson“ of 2020. „Nevernight“, „A Darker Shade of Magic“, „Scythe“ or „The Gilded Wolves“ they would all qualify for it, but I’m going for „The Impossible Boy“ here because I loved this to bits and pieces. Yes, I’m totally biased when it comes to this book, but for the first time in my reading life I felt at least halfway represented and this made me so happy! ❤ I just couldn’t put this book down until I finished reading it and it was such a carefully written and sensitive book. 🙂

I’m going with „Illuminae“ here because this series completely took me by surprise. The format of those books is crazy and the action, the plot, the characters, the ideas and scientific facts behind it all… I was and still am totally blown away by the genius that is Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff! XD

I still think that  „The Lies of Locke Lamora“ is way too under-hyped! I mean this series is amazing!! I love the Gentleman Bastards and Scott Lynch is such a genius for thinking up all those plot ideas! There are so many details that come into play at the end and just wow! I have no idea how he does it but his books are brilliant! 😀

At the risk of disgruntling a lot of fans: I really though I’d hate „Wildcard“ by Marie Lu. I loved „The Young Elites“ and decided to read „Warcross“ just to find out that it wasn’t really for me. I had quite a few issues with the first book and was really, really sceptical when I started to read „Wildcard“, but OMG I actually ended up enjoying it. Which obviously makes me an odd duck again because apparently everyone else loved „Warcross“ and was disappointed by „Wildcard“. *lol*

Ahh that’s a tough one. I think it’s a tie between „Harry Potter“ and „The Raven Cycle“. I love both series so much and whenever I reread them it feels like coming back home. Since HP is still more known than „The Raven Boys“ I’ll chose TRC for this one though. 😉 Gotta support your less known favourites. XD

There are so many amazing books that deal with sibling relationships but I think this time around I’ll go for a book not a lot of people would think of. „Lady Midnight“ because the Blackthorns are #siblinggoals!!! I love each and every single member of this family and Helen, Mark, Julian, Ty, Livvy, Dru and Tavvy are EVERYTHING!!! ❤ Those siblings love each other so much it always makes me weep! *sniff*

I think I’ll go with „Dry“ here because it was the last book I read that managed to keep me glued to the pages. I always read about 5 different books at the same time and therefore it usually takes me quite a while to finish the books I read. With „Dry“ I was done in a week and whenever I stopped reading I noticed that a lot of time had passed. *lol*

„The Song of Achilles“ *sighs* I think so far I know no one who didn’t like this book and it’s definitely one of my favourites! ❤ Madeline Miller’s writing style is so amazing and I love this book with all my heart! Patroclus and Achilles were the best and I’ll never get over them! T_T

Harry Potter!! I hope that I’d have all the other six books with me on that island too though! Would be a shame just to be able to read only the first one. *lol* But the bookish gods wouldn’t be so cruel to leave me with only the first book, right? 😛

I think there’s no way this won’t be a five star read for me. So far I loved all of Cassie’s books and I can’t wait to dive into this series! I mean the children of Will Herondale?!! I’m so going to love James, I already know it. And his parabatai and I’ll be intrigued by Cordelia and OMG!! I’m so hyped for this I can’t even! =))) I need to read this asap. *lol*

Oh gods, don’t ask me a question like that! I’d even take two hits by a brick just to get my fingers on a copy of „The Silvered Serpents“! I’ve been dying to read this book ever since I finished „The Gilded Wolves“ and even joined NetGalley in the hope to get an ARC. Unfortunately NetGalley declined my request and I’m still devastated! I JUST WANT TO READ THIS FREAKING BOOK! So, so badly! T_T

My bestie has been raving about this series whenever we went to the library and I got curious. About two years ago I picked up the first book „The Screaming Staircase“ and was hooked! 😀 I just loved those kids and the world they live in! Stroud wrote such a unique story and the characters grew on me! I’m pretty sure I would have loved this even more as a kid! ❤

13 leo

Red, White & Royal BlueI just realized that I don’t read a lot of funny books. *lol* But I think I’ll go with „Red, White & Royal Blue“ here because this book didn’t only make me smile but also managed to make me laugh out loud which is kind of a feat! At least I usually don’t make it a habit to laugh like a madman when I’m in public transport. 😛 I loved this book so much and I’m sure I’ll reread it one day. 😀

14 hazel

Does 2007 count as old? *lol* Since it’s been 13 years I’ll just say „yes“ and go with „Wicked Lovely“. It’s the first book in Melissa Marr’s „Wicked Lovely Series“ and I still love this series so much! ❤ This was the first time I read about cruel, cunning and wicked faeries and I was so ready for it! XD I’ll always love Irial and Niall! My two precious boys!

15 frank

The Gilded Wolves (The Gilded Wolves, #1)Since I already mentioned „The Song of Achilles“ earlier I’ll go with „The Gilded Wolves“ for this prompt. I really, really, really didn’t want to reach the end of this book. The longer I read the more I dreaded the ending and urgh…. now I’ve to wait until book two comes out and I just hope that the ending of „The Silvered Serpents“ won’t kill me again. >_<

16 reyna

I wouldn’t say everyone hates it because there are some really dedicated fans out there but „Captive Prince“ is definitely one of those books that’s more than just a little controversial. You either hate this series or you love it and personally I belong to the latter category. I got a lot of hateful comments on my review for being a fan of this series but oh well I can deal with the haters. 😛 I still stand by my opinion: I love Laurent and Damen. Period!

17 octavian

7631105

Okay, first of all I’d like to say that I love the idea of this punched teddybear! *lol* It’s soo fitting! XD And then I’d like to mention that I absolutely hated „The Scorch Trials“. This might be a super controversial opinion but from book two on „The Maze Runner“ series was such a disappointment for me. If it wouldn’t have been for Newt and Minho I wouldn’t even have bothered to finish this series. >_<

18 percabeth

17378527

Ahh this is such a tough one! There are so many great romances out there and I wish I could choose them all! But I think even though I might repeat myself here I’ll go with „The Raven Cycle“. And nope, I’m not talking about Blue and Gansey here. I’m talking about Adam and Ronan. ❤ Those two… I loved that super slow burn, how they respect each other, all those tender gestures and soft moments. I swear I must have died about a thousand deaths by just reading Ronan’s thoughts about Adam’s hands. I think I’m dying once again just thinking about it! T_T Ahh my heart!

I TAG:

Miri @ The Book Dragoness

Elli @ AceReader  (I just saw that you did that one already so *lol* Guess I was one day too late with my tag. XD)

Beck @ Smellfoy Can Read?

Emma @ A Few Chapters ‚til Love

This was so much fun! I love May for creating this tag! Oh, well who am I kidding? I love May with and without this tag. *lol* 😛 She’s the best! ❤

I hope you guys will have fun doing this tag too! XD As always you don’t have to do it, but I’d really love to read your answers!

February Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I have no idea who read those 7 books but it can’t have been me. Seriously. *lol* Or was it? O_o I think the only reason I read so much is because there were so many library deadlines! This might sound crazy but I borrowed a lot of books that are on My Book List 2020 and I didn’t want to return them unread so I kind of kicked in my fast-reading gear and powered through them.

I mean I read „Red Seas Under Red Skies“, a 630 pages book, in about a week. O_o Which must have been some sort of new record. *lol* Soo, the positive thing is that I read a lot of books, the negative one is that I barely had any time to write reviews about them! Talk about a good work/life balance! >_< Urgh! I’ve a current backlog of three reviews (which is a lot by my standards) and I really hope that I’ll be able to work them off soon!

As for the rest of the month? The new pollen season just began and with the growing amount of hazelnut and alder in the air my asthma began way earlier than last year. Also I celebrated my birthday and I was lucky enough to spend an entire day with my bestie! ❤ (And if you wonder how old I am now: I won’t tell! 😛 I’m a faerie so you can do the math! XD)

This said, let’s head to to my monthly statistic and take a closer look at those awesome numbers!

Books read: 7

Pages read:  2.622 (And here I thought I wouldn’t be able to read a lot in February! Must be mostly due to library deadlines. *lol*)

Average rating: 4,43 (That’s a pretty good rating considering how many books I read! 🙂 )

Books that were on my reading list:  5 (2 from 2019 andfrom 2020! I can’t believe I’ve alread read 4 of the books from My Book List 2020!!! Who am I even? *lol*)

The Gilded Wolves: 5 Pfoten

This was definitely one of my bookish highlights of 2020! I know the year just started but this was so great! A diverse character cast, a heist, a well-thought-out world, suspenseful scenes, amazing quotes and Roshani Chokshi’s unique talent for tension made this book kind of unputdownable! XD I was glad Miri decided to read „The Gilded Wolves“ with me and I’m still crossing my fingers that I’ll get an ARC of „The Silvered Serpents“. Wish me luck! 😉

Turtles All the Way Down: 4 Pfoten

John Green’s books are always sort of hit or miss for me so I’m glad to announce that this one was a „hit“. 🙂 „Turtles All the Way Down“ had a pretty good OCD rep and it really helped me to understand some of my friends even better. Well, at least I think I understand them better now and that’s always a good thing. If you want to read more about my thoughts you can do it here!

Scythe: 5 Pfoten

What a surprise!!! When I started to read this book I never thought that I’d end up loving it so much! ❤ So far „Scythe“ was the hidden „easter egg“ of my bookish reading adventures in 2020! It took me by surprise just like „Illuminae“ did last year and I’m soo looking forward to get my greedy paws on a copy of „Thunderhead“. I’m still kinda dishevelled from all the action and my mind is all over the place so let’s hope I can regain some of my sanity before I start with book two. 😛

Red Seas Under Red Skies: 4 Pfoten

Scott Lynch has a talent to write amazing books! I love Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen and I’ll never get tired of those two and their friendship! ❤ If you enjoy heist stories with intricate schemes and cunning characters this series should be perfect for you. Also in book two there are pirates and strong women!!! Which was more than just amazing to read! Highly recommended!

Percy Jackson – The Battle of the Labyrinth: 4 Pfoten

I can’t believe I’ve already read the fourth book! Just one more and the main series is over. T_T This series is getting darker and more mature with every installment and I’m convinced the last book will continue in this vein. Still, Percy’s snark and his girl troubles were quite entertaining and I can’t help but wonder how he’s going to fare in the next book. *lol*

The Impossible Boy: 5 Pfoten

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Mostly because for the first time ever (or the second time if you count Alex Fierro) I felt truly represented. Well, at least up to about 50% because Stan, the MC, is male. *lol* So it was exactly the other way around. Still, I think I finally understand why people want to read books that represent them. It made me so happy to read this and I think my 5 paws might be super biased  but damn I felt understood!!! And for that alone this book would get all the paws, stars and whatever other rating systems out there exist. XD For me this was everything. ❤

Ruby Red: 4 Pfoten

This was a reread and not only on My Book List 2020 but also a part of my German speaking Authors Year! Kerstin Gier is a really talented author and I’ve read many of her other books as well. This time however, I decided to read the English version of „Ruby Red“. They mostly did a good job at translating it but there was one thing that bothered me immensely: They changed the MCs name from Gwendolyn to Gwyneth and I just wasn’t okay with this. >_< I know this probably makes me a bean counter but seriously, why change it? All the other character’s names stayed the same so WTH??!!! This was just strange and I still don’t get it… If I ever find time you’ll be able to read my review on here soon. XD

Rankenzeile

How was your February? Did you get some serious reading done as well and if yes, what was your favourite book? What do you think about book translations and would you have been annoyed by the change of the MCs name too? Do you also have troubles with library deadlines? XD

October Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I actually thought that October would be a horrible reading month for me but judging by the figures I was way better off than I initially though. Which is kind of crazy if you think about all the action I had in October. >_<

My little one a had very severe otitis media and such a high temperature that I was worried sick! She even had to take antibiotics for a week and for a few horrible hours we thought that she might have to stay in hospital! Thankfully the medicine kicked in and she recovered rather quickly. Which was basically the only good news I received throughout all of October.

Well, that and the Frankfurt Book Fair. Of course, there was a series of mishaps while we spent our time in Frankfurt, but in general we had a really nice stay. XD To travel with me is always rather chaotic and I guess my bestie just figured that out too. *lol* (Seriously, from malfunctioning elevators and room cards up to a bus that never showed up and a map that mislead us basically everything was represented. *shakes head*)

Despite the odds everything turned out kind of okay at the end of October though. Well, for October at least. I’m here typing this at the beginning of November with an inflammation of two of my wisdom teeth and a laryngitis on top of it. And before you ask: No, I can’t talk right now! I feel like Arielle! Completely and utterly voiceless! >_<

Fortunately I can still write which is basically the only thing that keeps me sane right now. That and the knowledge that I’ll get my wisdom teeth removed at the end of November which might once again affect my reading schedule. But enough of all that horrible news! Let’s think about good things like my statistic for this month! 😉

Books read: 6

Pages read:  2.701 (As it seems I finally managed to get my Netflix addiction under control and therefore read really long books! *lol*)

Average rating: 4,17 (Even more picky than last month! :P)

Books that were on my reading list:  4 (1 from 2018 and 3 from 2019)

October Reads:

26032825    41569626__SY475_    39704614__SY475_

22456263    40247647__SY475_    35068705

The Cruel Prince: 5 Pfoten

I loved this book so much! ❤ If you want to know how real faeries are done, search no more! You found the right book! Ruthless, cunning, cruel and wicked are the words that describe it best! 😉 This was definitely my favourite read of October and the only book that got five paws from me! So yes, the hype is real! If you want to know more about „The Cruel Prince“ you can read my full review here!

Crazy Rich Asians: 4 Pfoten

I really enjoyed this one even though there were moments I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Like seriously! The people in this book are filthy rich and how they spend their money is just crazy, but then again the book is called „Crazy Rich Asians“ for a reason. *lol* To be honest, I didn’t like about 75% of the characters in this book but the other 25% were so nice that they made up for it. XD

What If It’s Us: 4 Pfoten

This book was so great because it was realistic! If you want a fluffy and sweet romance this might be the wrong story for you. Ben and Arthur’s love story is very honest, a little bit sweet and most of all very relatable. They fall in love, they struggle, they try to make it work and they deal with their problems and insecurities. I really appreciated „What If It’s Us“ because it was so mature and unique. 🙂

The Titan’s Curse: 4 Pfoten

Uncle Rick did it once again! XD I love his books because they are always entertaining and a lot of fun! This book was way darker than the first two though and I’m pretty sure that it will only get even darker from now on. It’s like with the HP series, the older the characters get, the more serious the books become. Still, I love Percy and his defiance! Give me more! ❤

The Stickman’s Legacy: 4 Pfoten

Now that was quite a read! *lol* One of the longest books I finished this month and a very interesting one at that! I might have had some issues with the pacing but overall I really enjoyed it. If you want to read my detailed and very confusing review you can do it here!

The Poppy War: 4 Pfoten

I’ve been warned that this book would be tough to read but no warning could have ever prepared me for the last third of „The Poppy War“, because damn there happened quite some heavy stuff! >_< And Rin! Woah! Don’t even get me started about Rin’s transformation! O_o There’s no review for this yet, but be ready for one of my super long and very detailed essays! *lol* The Poppy War definitely deserves it! 😉

Rankenzeile

How was your October? Did you read many books? Did you visit the Frankfurt Book Fair as well? Which kind of genres did you read and did you like them? Any creepy book recommendations for next year?

Talk to me and let me know!
