December Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I don’t know about you but I’m kind of relieved 2020 is over and that we can start into a completely new year. 2021 has to be better than 2020 ever was because I finally want to be able to say something positive in my Wrap-Ups. *lol* December was… in many ways as shitty as all the other months of 2020 and on some days it was even worse so yeah. Add work and stress to the mix and you get an idea how bad it actually was. XD

Anyway! I won’t be negative and we need all the positivity we can get in order to start 2021 right so I’ll think about nice things! For instance the Christmas dinner with my family on the 24th. We only were allowed to meet up to 10 people on two days (the 24th & 25th) and I celebrated Christmas with my family on the 24th. It was so good to see them after almost two months and I’m just happy I could celebrate and eat dinner with them. ❤ I hope there will be more family dinners in 2021 again and I’m already looking forward to the summer when hopefully everything will get a little bit more normal again.

This said I was able to spend two weeks at home and it was amazing! I needed those two weeks off work and I’m so glad I could indulge in my hobbies. For instance I started to do Yoga again and I got super motivated to dance which is mostly due to BTS. They are all so amazing and they made me want to get back into dancing. I know I’ll never reach their level again (I actually was at their level before I injured my knee and added insult to injury with a muscle fibre rupture in my shoulder a couple of years ago. Yes I’m a wreck. *lol*) but just to dance makes me so damn happy and I’m basically glowing ever since I started to do it more often again. =) It brings me joy and heaven knows we need to grasp every thread of happiness we can get. So even though I can’t do things like the amazing ballet spin (Jungkook and Jimin did at the 2020 MMA’s) anymore, I’m still happy I can dance! 😀

And before I continue to gush about dancing I’ll just head to my Wrap-Up! *lol* So here we go:

Books read: 7 (7 books & 0 webcomic, At first it looked like I’d only read two books in December and then the holidays happened so 7 it is. XD)

Pages read:  2.698 (That’s a lot of pages because many of those books had more than 400 pages.)

Average rating: 4,00 (This seems to be a precision landing once again. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (from 2019 and 3 from 2020. Guess my efforts to read some of my 2020 books paid off in the end. 😉 )

December Reads:

52518647. sx318 sy475      39325226. sy475        39679076
48721348    54386750     36481352. sy475

Imagine Me: 2 Pfoten, 5

Everyone who read my review of „Imagine Me“ knows how bitter I felt about this book. >_< After the initial amazing trilogy and the great fourth and fifth book I expected something awesome or at least a worthy ending for such a long series. But all I got were even more questions and a half-baked plot that constantly made me want to … well puke. (at least the Juliette chapters) The only thing that saved this for me were Kenji and Warner and even those two weren’t enough. So: Nuh-uh! No, nopedy nope. T_T

Dear Evan Hansen: 3 Pfoten

I absolutely love the „Dear Evan Hansen“ soundtrack and I’ve been listening to it like crazy after I read the book. I can’t help but wonder if the musical and the book are the same though. In general this wasn’t a bad book but I kind of disliked that Evan lied so much and that it ultimately didn’t have all too many consequences for him. I don’t know if the musical is the same but all that lying made me feel really uncomfortable. Especially because he wasn’t called out on it. That’s just my opinion though. If you want to read my full review you can do it here!

House of Salt and Sorrows: 4 Pfoten

I absolutely adored this retelling of „The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes“ and for a debut this was amazing! =) The dark and eerie atmosphere of Highmoor was super creepy and I loved that this played on an island. I could almost taste the salt creeping into every corner of that manson by the sea and I lived and breathed for this haunted house. *lol* Truth be told this would have been a great Halloween read. XD

The Starless Sea: 5 Pfoten

This was AWESOME! Like seriously, an entirely different level of awesome! I loved this book so much and even though I know that it won’t be for everyone I can definitely say that it was perfect for me! 😉 I just loved everything about „The Starless Sea“ and I adore Erin Morgenstern’s imagination. It’s no wonder it always takes her so long to write her books but if that is what comes out of those many years I’ll accept the long wait without complaining. Such a masterpiece of storytelling. I just loved it! ❤

Teddy Spenser Isn’t Looking for Love: 4 Pfoten

I got this as an ARC from NetGalley and I enjoyed it a lot! XD I wanted a sweet rom-com and I got one with „Teddy Spenser Isn’t Looking for Love“. Of course some of the tasks they had to do in this book were kind of ridiculous but it definitely made for good entertainment. *lol* Also I loved that there was a pan rep in here! They are rare to find and it was nice to see one, though admittedly it could have been more pronounced. Still, if you want to escape reality for a few hours I can totally recommend this book! 😉

Godsgrave: 4 Pfoten,5

Jay Kristoff managed to WOW me once again! This went in an entirely different direction than I expected but it was amazing nevertheless. I loved Mia’s character arc and that she started to question her decisions. And can we please appreciate all those plot twists I never saw coming? >_< Just amazing! I can’t wait to read „Darkdawn“ but I’ve to admit that I’m scared as hell. *lol* As long as Sabrina @ Notes From A Paper Plane Nomad is going to buddy read this with me as well I’ll be fine though. XD

Heartstopper: 5 Pfoten

When my library finally got this as a paperback I just couldn’t resist! I’ve been reading „Heartstopper“ for years as a webcomic but it felt really good to hold it in my hands and to turn the pages! =D Plus I finally had the time to look more at the details and to enjoy the drawings and facial expressions. This will always be one of my fave LGBTQ+ stories and Alice Oseman will always be one of my fave authors as well. ❤

SASSY Saturday

SASSY Saturday

Hey there my lovelies!

Welcome back to the ninth round of my new montly blog meme „SASSY Saturday“!

How does it work? Well, that’s easy! 😉

All you have to do is to follow those three golden rules:

1. Credit the creator of this tag (The Sassy Library Fox) and link back. (so I can see all your amazing answers!)
2. Answer the 5 questions below!
3. AND enjoy doing the blog meme! 😛

„SASSY Saturday“ is planned to be a monthly meme but if you want to do it more often feel free to go for it! This meme was created to get to know other bloggers, their new obsessions and to reflect on your own last month! Above all it was created to have fun though! 😉 If you want you can also use the banner I created! This said let’s head to the good part:

S – Series you loved this month

The Umbrella Academy! I finally started with season two on Netflix and even though I only watched the first 4 episodes I can say that I already love to be back with the team. *lol* I just adore the characters and how different they are and the occasional film noir vibe paired with the humour is just great! ❤ And of course I still love Klaus, Five and Diego! They seem to cause the most trouble which is probably the reason why I love them so much. XD

A – Author you discovered

54386750

Kim Fielding. I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of „Teddy Spenser Isn’t Looking for Love“ and it was a really sweet romance. 🙂 I’ll definitely watch out for her other books now and I really wish this would have been longer!

S – Song you couldn’t get enough of

BTS – Dynamite

I love this song so much! I could listen to it all day and I could watch the video of it even longer! I love my 7 boys and ADKFAKSDFALKSDFK! They are all so amazing! ❤ Their music and their positive attitude basically got me through 2020. So thank you BTS! You might not be able to perform in front of your fans now but we love and miss you at least as much as you love and miss us!!! Also I didn’t just spend an hour watching a youtube tutorial how to dance this… Nope. Totally didn’t, but if I did I would dance to it now. *lol* (I hate that my injured knee can’t keep up with some of the dance moves… T_T)

S – Surprise – Something that totally caught you off guard

Some of the Christmas presents I got! They were really creative and my family and friends put a lot of effort and thought into them. 🙂 It was so nice to see how much they cared, especially this year so I’m very grateful for all the amazing things I got and I was definitely surprised by almost all of them. XD (I didn’t get any books though, but I got gift coupons to buy them myself which is probably better anyway because my family lost track of all the books I already read. A long time ago, I might add. ;-P)

Y – Your fave blog post of another blogger

2020 Releases I Haven’t Read (but still want to) by Elli @ AceReader

I’ve been following Elli’s blog for a while and I love it! ❤ The content is amazing and I just enjoy to spend time on Elli’s blog! XD This post was once again a great one because there are so many amazing books I want to get to too. *lol* So thank you Elli for writing them all down. It’s great that we have a similar taste in books. 😉

What do you think about „SASSY Saturday“? Would you like to join the fun? Did you discover a new author and which songs had you dancing through your home? Are you a BTS fan too and were you happy with your Christmas presents?

November Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

So another month has passed in this crazy year and I don’t know about you but, I for my part, am looking forward to 2021. It just got to be better, right? XD November was another one of those months I’d love to erase from my memory: Our second full lockdown and a terrorist attack in the first district of Vienna right before that lockdown started. My workplace is close to that district and I went to work on the next day when they still suspected that terrorists could roam the streets. Fun times. My entire family feared for me and called me on my way to work.

Obviously I got there safely or I couldn’t write those lines, the atmosphere was more than just eerie though. I basically heard sirens the entire day and for the first time in a long time I didn’t feel safe in Vienna. What a start into the month of November… The rest of it was thankfully rather unspectacular. Close to the end of the month I got sick and spent a few days at home trying to get back on my feet. It was no Covid, just a normal and super horrible common cold. *lol* Everyone who has kids knows that you can’t really rest though. XD

Anyway, I’m healthy again and I hope it will stay that way. 😉 Our lockdown ended on Monday the 7th so I hope that I’ll be able to go to the library again. At least once before the  Christmas holidays start and I better take my bestie with me or I won’t even be able to give her my Christmas present. XD Guess to go to the library is one of the few things we’re still allowed to do and knowing us we’ll make it count. *lol*

This said let’s go for my bookish monthly wrap up! =)

Books read:(5 books & 1 webcomic, I managed to read another webcomic! Yay! XD)

Pages read:  1.927 (I think November was probably one of my weakest reading months and I blame it all on the second lockdown. *lol*)

Average rating:(For once a solid rating without any decimal points. 😉 )

Books that were on my reading list:  1 (from 2019 and 0 from 2020. I know it looks bad for my 2020 list but I’m currently reading 3 books from my list and my December Wrap-Up will definitely look better.)

November Reads:

35081433. sy475      16003119     45158895. sy475
12788037. sy475     54359996. sy475

Love Revisited: 3 Pfoten

This was a review copy I got from the author in exchange for an honest review. I liked it but there were a few things that hampered my enjoyment and I just couldn’t overlook them. So yeah, for a debut novel this was pretty good and I’m convinced that Jannat will get even better with time. She’s definitely a promising author so I’ll cross my fingers for her. If you’re curious about my full review you can read it here!

Prodigy: 4 Pfoten

I really enjoyed „Prodigy“ and I’ll never get tired of Day. He’s just too precious for this world and I love his character so much! ❤ The ending of this book just about killed me and I really hope that „Champion“ will end on a better note. >_< It has to, because I can’t accept an ending like that! XD I’m pretty sure Marie Lu will throw me for a loop again. Actually I kind of hope she will. *lol* Anyway if you want to read my review just click on the „Prodigy link“ above!

Muse of Nightmares: 4 Pfoten

Okay, this was probably one of the most stressful books I ever read. About 80% of „Muse of Nightmares“ I was hopeless and felt desperate because boy, things were getting worse and worse. Regarding what happened in the story. Not the book, mind you! XD The book was  awesome but damn my precious characters had to suffer. >_< So yeah, this was a pretty gruelling read but a really great conclusion to the series. Still, some part of me hopes for a 3rd book because there are quite a few characters I’d love to read more about. *cough* Thyon, Ruza, Calixte and Tzara *cough*.

Clockwork Prince: 5 Pfoten

I love this series so damn much and Will Herondale and James Carstairs are my two precious boys!!! ❤ It took me 4 months to read this book, because I was enjoying my reread so much! I swear I savoured every letter and sentence and I can’t wait to read „Clockwork Princess“. This book was way darker than its predecessor and I lived and breathed for it! *lol* Also Magnus Bane is the best! This is still one of my all time favourite series ever! XD

King of the Dark: 4 Pfoten

It was time for some m/m dark romance again and I’m pretty sure this one might have gotten me on Santa’s naughty list! But tell you what? I don’t care! *lol* This was just too good not to read it. I loved all the scheming and court intrigues and I sure as hell enjoyed those steamy scenes! ;-P Also there was a war against elves brewing in the background so we had a fantasy element too. And last but not least: Vasili Caville! I love that man!!! ❤ I’m soo looking forward to read the next book just to see where his character will go!

The Croaking: 4 Pfoten

A fellow goodreads member recommended this webcomic to me and the moment I started to read it I was hooked! „The Croaking“ is as awesome as a m/m webcomic can be! I loved both of the MCs (especially Scra) and the world building is amazing! But not just that, the drawings are super gorgeous and the artist has some serious talent! Like OMG! Alone to draw all those feathers and wings must be such a pain in the behind! *lol* I’m just glad Echorise decided to continue drawing them! XD Season 2 just started so you might want to jump „The Roost“ train?! *wriggles eyebrows*

Rankenzeile

How was your November? Did you read more books than I did? Did you already read „The Croaking“ and if yes do you have some amazing webcomic recommendations for me?  Is your country in a lockdown too? Will go go to the library before Christmas? And the most important question of them all: Are you ready for the next year?! *lol* (Because I definitely am!!!)

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

SASSY Saturday

SASSY Saturday

Hey there my lovelies!

Welcome back to the seventh round of my new montly blog meme „SASSY Saturday“!

„Locke & Key“! Okay, I only just started with this series but boy did it have a great start. I’m so intrigued by the house and all those different keys. I’ve to admit that it’s kind of tough to watch this series if you’re a scaredy fox like me though. *lol* The first three episodes were creepy af and since I can only watch this series when my kid is in bed I watch it at night which quite honestly doesn’t help – AT ALL! *shudders* Problem is, now that I’m hooked there’s no turning back, I need to know what happens next. XD

A – Author you discovered

Alice Oseman! I know, I know, technically I already knew her, but I never read an actual book she wrote. I’ve been following her comic „Heartstopper“ for years but I never picked up one of her novels. Which I corrected this month. XD „Radio Silence“ was amazing and I was very intrigued by the two MCs. Frances and Aled are two really unique characters and I got addicted to this more than just fast. 🙂

S – Song you couldn’t get enough of

Make Out Monday – Don’t Fall Asleep

Funnily enough I found this band through „Julie and the Phantoms“ and I’m kind of obsessed with this song now! It’s the band of Jeremy Shada who plays Reggie in the series. This song ist just great and it sort of speaks to me! ❤ Also can we acknowledge that every actor in „Julie and the Phantoms“ has some sort of musical background?! You can see it when they play in the series. They are true musicians through and through. (Which you realize when you’re a dedicated musician too. *lol*) My favourite part of the lyrics: „But I want you to see tomorrow, cause it’s more beautiful than you can see today. And I want you to feel no sorrow. Maybe we can learn to dream while we’re awake. Don’t fall asleep.“

S – Surprise – Something that totally caught you off guard

Okay, that definitely was no pleasant surprise, but I was really surprised about how fast you can become shunned from society by just being related to someone who had to do a Covid-19 test. O_o I mean I only got a phone call from my mum who told me one of my relatives had to do a second Covid test because the rapid test kind of showed a slight sign that she might be infected. I didn’t see my relative for a week before I got that call, yet people immediately put on their masks, opened the window and politely told me I should go home. Which was kinda… WOW?! I mean, seriously? The second official test was negative btw! So that strong reaction was really sort of strange and completely blown out of proportion. I mean I get it, I don’t want to get Covid too, but can we stop treating people like they are patient zero and will get rabid any second?! I really hate what the virus does to us as a society. So much mistrust and fear…. >_<

10 Books I want More People to Read and Appreciate by May @ Forever and Everly

I really love May’s blog posts and this one was no exception! I discovered so many new authors I haven’t read yet and I think I want to give them all a try. It’s always good to hear about underrated books and I’m the first one to pick them up as long as they are good. Thankfully May’s taste is as impeccable as Warner’s appearance so *lol*! I trust her taste in books more than I trust my own and that says quite something. ;-P

October Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I don’t know about your October but for me it was a strange month. On the one hand we all went for business as usual but on the other hand the Covid-19 numbers in my country were rising once again. By now it got so bad they initiated another lockdown, but considering the fact this already happened in other countries I suppose this is just another part of our „new normal“. Sometimes when I look at my child I wonder in which kind of world she was born in. I can only hope this won’t have all too many repercussions for her when she’s grown up.

So what else is new? I got approved for another e-ARC via NetGalley but for some reason I couldn’t download it. It said the file is damaged and not even to send it to my kindle worked so I sent an e-mail to the publisher in the hope they’d answer it, because it would have been such a shame if I wouldn’t have been able to read and review the book. I never got an answer but for some reason it worked yesterday so YAY! *lol*  Did anything like that ever happen to you too or am I the only one?!

And last but not least, I kind of bingewatched a lot of movies on Netflix. I just need feel-good movies in my life right now and so I went for: DJ Cinderella, Love Guaranteed, Holidate, Falling Inn Love, The Half of It and a couple of other movies. Maybe I’ll rewatch my DVD of „Yuri on Ice!“ too. Nothing is more comforting than Victor and Yuri. *lol* I guess I just need this right now. Those last few days two of my relatives had to get tested for Covid-19 and that was my only way to cope with my growing anxiety. (I didn’t see them for over a week but I was still worried about their health) So yeah romantic movies on Netflix it was. >_< Both of them got tested negative btw, which was a huge relief!

Anyway!! Let’s finally get to the nice things of life! Like for instance my actual Wrap-Up!

Books read:(7 books & 0 webcomic, I can’t believe I managed to read 7 books. I really need to dive back into the webcomic world though. XD)

Pages read:  3.345 (My page amount seems to grow with every month. I read so many huge books in October.)

Average rating: 4,29 (All those 7 books were amazing so no wonder my rating is so high!)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (from 2019 and 2 from 2020. YES! I finally managed to read some of the books from my lists!)

October Reads:

22844191. sy475     16299169    35094043

41827561. sy475     53034698. sx318 sy475     43242080

18089991

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 5 Pfoten

This was another of my countless rereads but I enjoyed it immensely! GoF is still one of my favourite HP books and I think the rating for this will never change. There just happens so much in this book and it’s kind of the kick-start of all the other serious books that follow. The characters are growing up and have to deal with a completely different set of problems and it’s such a pleasure to watch their development! XD In short I loved this! 😉 If you want to read more about my thoughts you can do it here!

The Son of Neptune: 4 Pfoten

I really enjoyed this!! Percy was finally back and there’s no better narrator than Percy, right?! This boy is just great and even though I enjoyed „The Lost Hero“ I’ve to admit that I loved this way more! There’s just something about Percy that made the book way better than the first one. Also I kinda liked Hazel and Frank more than I liked Jason and Piper? I dunno, it’s just how I feel. Leo Valdez is still my precious bean though! ❤ Love him so much! So yes, „The Son of Neptune“ was awesome and I can’t wait to read the next book!

The Language of Thorns: 4 Pfoten

This was such a great collection of dark fairy tales and I lived and breathed for it! Every day I sat down with another fairy tale and every day I ended up feeling intrigued, mind-blown, surprised, creeped out, disgusted or revolted. *lol* So I can totally recommend this as a soft Halloween read! If you want to know more about my thoughts to the individual stories you can find my full review here!

Radio Silence: 5 Pfoten

I absolutely LOVED and ADORED „Radio Silence“! This book was just relatable af and Frances and Aled were truly amazing characters! ❤ I loved their friendship and their taste in clothes was amazing. Seriously, I want a wardrobe like theirs. *lol* Also I want Aled Last’s hair but that’s another story for another day! ;-P One of the best contemporary books I ever read and I can’t wait to dive into Alice Oseman’s other books! I hope they’re all as good as this one!

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: 4 Pfoten

Now this was some sort of surprise! I didn’t expect to like „The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes“ so much but in the end I had to acknowledge that it was a great book. At least for me it was. If you want to know more about all those rebel symbols and Snow’s past this is definitely the right book for you. Also the Slytherin and dark faerie in me kind of appreciated all the backstabbing and machinations that happened in here. Can’t help it, you gotta admire a well crafted intrigue. *lol*
The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle: 4 Pfoten

„The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle“ blew my mind!!! For a debut this was AMAZING and I don’t even want to know how much time Turton spent working on this super intricate plotline. I loved to collect all those breadcrumbs and to connect the dots! And I almost, almost solved all of the mysteries!!! This was just great! ❤ I want more books like that! I love it when my brain has to work! Haha! Plus sometimes this was also slightly spine-chilling so it worked as a Halloween read for me. 😀 If you want to read my thoughts and how I solved the mystery you can do it here! Still don’t know how to write spoiler tags with the new editor. >_<

The School for Good and Evil: 4 Pfoten

Ever since I started to follow Sabrina’s blog she’s been raving about this series and the last time I was at my library I finally decided to take the book with me! And tell you what, this was really entertaining and good!! I loved Agatha and Sophie! They both grew so much in this book and their fairy tale was super interesting! ❤ I felt so much for both of them and even though Sophie sometimes went on my nerves I could still appreciate her character. As for Tedros? We’ll see. *lol* I definitely liked precious Hort though! ;-P

March Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Okay, not gonna lie here, March was a tough month. Not only book wise but also life wise. You might say one led to the other. When COVID-19 hit my country everything came to a standstill and our lives changed rather drastically. From one day to the next I stopped commuting to work, set up a home office and tried to work from home as best as I could. With a little kid that’s constantly around me because kindergarten is closed too and with my hubby on top of that March was quite a trying and exhausting month though.

I constantly found myself falling into bed right after work and was no good for anything. Thankfully my kid is still taking naps because damn I needed them badly too. *lol* Since the situation in Austria didn’t get any better (at least not up until now) I’ll be on short-time work from now on. So there’s that. More time to take care of my family, to cook for them and hopefully also more time to read and to blog? XD You can always dream, right? Now that my reading slump is over I’ll hopefully read more again.

One thing is for certain though: Now that I’m spending so much time at home my flat is super tidy. I swear it probably was never as clean as it is now! *lol* Or well, maybe it was when I moved into it 6 years ago and scrubbed literally EVERYTHING! 😛

On a side note: There happened something super amazing in March (understatement of the century!!) and I just need to gush about it, so please bear with me! *lol* It won’t take long, I’ll just mention that for some weird, crazy and completely unfathomable reason I ended up being number 99 in the Goodreads Global Top 100 of ALL FREAKING TIME! THANK YOU GUYS SO DAMN MUCH!!! I can’t even… O_o AKDFASDFJASKDFJSAKFSJDFKASJFD! Okay, that’s it, I’m fine. *faints*

OMG!!!!

Anyway, enough of my weirdness and musings and right back to the few books I actually managed to read last month! XD

Books read: 6

Pages read:  1.642 (Not as great as February but considering that I was in a slight book slump due to work and COVID-19 this actually isn’t all too bad!)

Average rating: 4,00 (That’s quite okay I suppose! I expected „The Death Cure“ to pull the rest of the books down, but apparently my other two 5 paws reads saved the rating. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  1 (from 2019, boy I really need to finish some of my books!! >_< )

March Reads:

Akairya: 4 Pfoten
Abrianna Leaming was so nice to give me a free copy of her book and I enjoyed it immensely! 😀 Yes, it might have taken me way too long to get to it but once I did I kind of rushed through it. This was a great fantasy middle grade book and if you like dragons, magic and elfs this might be the perfect book for you. 😉
Clockwork Angel: 5 Pfoten
Ahh it felt so good to be back in this world! I wanted to reread this series for ages and I finally started with the first book! What can I say? I still love Will, I still adore Jem and Tessa is as great as ever! All those bookish discussions, the characters and their interactions. Amazing! If you want to read my full review on this masterpiece you can do it here!
The Death Cure: 2 Pfoten
I kind of expected not to like it and unfortunately I was proven right. I really enjoyed the first book but from „The Scorch Trials“ on this series just didn’t make any sense. (at least not for me) In the last book there was no aim and no purpose, the characters would say one thing and do another and urgh… that kind of irked me big time. This felt so aimless that I just couldn’t give it a better rating. Truth be told, Minho and Newt were the only reason I kept on reading and that definitely wasn’t enough! >_<
Thank God I’m Fired: 4 Pfoten
Another review copy from an author I appreciate and hold in high regard. 🙂 You might say Sandeep Pawar is an own voice when it comes to IT topics and to say he’s a funny voice would be a huge understatement! I really enjoy his books because they aren’t only fun but also show the human side of IT and this in a very entertaining way. So if you’re interested in this sort of thing, search no more. Sandeep already delivered. 😛
The Last Olympian: 4 Pfoten
Ha! I loved this! Uncle Rick once again proved why he is a genius and one of the best authors to read when it comes to Greek Mythology! This was quite action packed and definitely held my attention until the very last page! A worthy final for a great series! I wish I could read „The Heroes of Olympus“ now but unfortunately my library is still closed. T_T So for now I’ll just have to wait. (Dang! I wanted to read about Nico di Angelo so badly!! He’s my precious son and I love him to pieces! ❤ )
The Summer Palace: 5 Pfoten
I can’t believe I waited 3 years to read this! But then again I can and boy, was it worth the long wait! *lol* I loved this short story so much and it was everything I ever wanted for my two boys! ❤ This was the ending I would have loved to read when I finished „King’s Rising“ and it made my heart sing with joy! I just love, love and LOVE Laurent and Damen! They are everything! XD

How was your March? Did you manage to read more books than I did or were you in a reading slump as well? Are your libraries closed too? And if yes, where do you get your books from now? How’s the current situation at your country? And the most important question: Are you still healthy and okay?!

Talk to me and let me know!

Also on a last, rather serious but still optimistic note: Stay healthy and take care! ❤ We can get through this and if we stick together we’ll come out of it stronger than before!

February Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I have no idea who read those 7 books but it can’t have been me. Seriously. *lol* Or was it? O_o I think the only reason I read so much is because there were so many library deadlines! This might sound crazy but I borrowed a lot of books that are on My Book List 2020 and I didn’t want to return them unread so I kind of kicked in my fast-reading gear and powered through them.

I mean I read „Red Seas Under Red Skies“, a 630 pages book, in about a week. O_o Which must have been some sort of new record. *lol* Soo, the positive thing is that I read a lot of books, the negative one is that I barely had any time to write reviews about them! Talk about a good work/life balance! >_< Urgh! I’ve a current backlog of three reviews (which is a lot by my standards) and I really hope that I’ll be able to work them off soon!

As for the rest of the month? The new pollen season just began and with the growing amount of hazelnut and alder in the air my asthma began way earlier than last year. Also I celebrated my birthday and I was lucky enough to spend an entire day with my bestie! ❤ (And if you wonder how old I am now: I won’t tell! 😛 I’m a faerie so you can do the math! XD)

This said, let’s head to to my monthly statistic and take a closer look at those awesome numbers!

Books read: 7

Pages read:  2.622 (And here I thought I wouldn’t be able to read a lot in February! Must be mostly due to library deadlines. *lol*)

Average rating: 4,43 (That’s a pretty good rating considering how many books I read! 🙂 )

Books that were on my reading list:  5 (2 from 2019 andfrom 2020! I can’t believe I’ve alread read 4 of the books from My Book List 2020!!! Who am I even? *lol*)

The Gilded Wolves: 5 Pfoten

This was definitely one of my bookish highlights of 2020! I know the year just started but this was so great! A diverse character cast, a heist, a well-thought-out world, suspenseful scenes, amazing quotes and Roshani Chokshi’s unique talent for tension made this book kind of unputdownable! XD I was glad Miri decided to read „The Gilded Wolves“ with me and I’m still crossing my fingers that I’ll get an ARC of „The Silvered Serpents“. Wish me luck! 😉

Turtles All the Way Down: 4 Pfoten

John Green’s books are always sort of hit or miss for me so I’m glad to announce that this one was a „hit“. 🙂 „Turtles All the Way Down“ had a pretty good OCD rep and it really helped me to understand some of my friends even better. Well, at least I think I understand them better now and that’s always a good thing. If you want to read more about my thoughts you can do it here!

Scythe: 5 Pfoten

What a surprise!!! When I started to read this book I never thought that I’d end up loving it so much! ❤ So far „Scythe“ was the hidden „easter egg“ of my bookish reading adventures in 2020! It took me by surprise just like „Illuminae“ did last year and I’m soo looking forward to get my greedy paws on a copy of „Thunderhead“. I’m still kinda dishevelled from all the action and my mind is all over the place so let’s hope I can regain some of my sanity before I start with book two. 😛

Red Seas Under Red Skies: 4 Pfoten

Scott Lynch has a talent to write amazing books! I love Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen and I’ll never get tired of those two and their friendship! ❤ If you enjoy heist stories with intricate schemes and cunning characters this series should be perfect for you. Also in book two there are pirates and strong women!!! Which was more than just amazing to read! Highly recommended!

Percy Jackson – The Battle of the Labyrinth: 4 Pfoten

I can’t believe I’ve already read the fourth book! Just one more and the main series is over. T_T This series is getting darker and more mature with every installment and I’m convinced the last book will continue in this vein. Still, Percy’s snark and his girl troubles were quite entertaining and I can’t help but wonder how he’s going to fare in the next book. *lol*

The Impossible Boy: 5 Pfoten

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Mostly because for the first time ever (or the second time if you count Alex Fierro) I felt truly represented. Well, at least up to about 50% because Stan, the MC, is male. *lol* So it was exactly the other way around. Still, I think I finally understand why people want to read books that represent them. It made me so happy to read this and I think my 5 paws might be super biased  but damn I felt understood!!! And for that alone this book would get all the paws, stars and whatever other rating systems out there exist. XD For me this was everything. ❤

Ruby Red: 4 Pfoten

This was a reread and not only on My Book List 2020 but also a part of my German speaking Authors Year! Kerstin Gier is a really talented author and I’ve read many of her other books as well. This time however, I decided to read the English version of „Ruby Red“. They mostly did a good job at translating it but there was one thing that bothered me immensely: They changed the MCs name from Gwendolyn to Gwyneth and I just wasn’t okay with this. >_< I know this probably makes me a bean counter but seriously, why change it? All the other character’s names stayed the same so WTH??!!! This was just strange and I still don’t get it… If I ever find time you’ll be able to read my review on here soon. XD

Rankenzeile

How was your February? Did you get some serious reading done as well and if yes, what was your favourite book? What do you think about book translations and would you have been annoyed by the change of the MCs name too? Do you also have troubles with library deadlines? XD

January Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I guess January was a fairly normal reading month for me. Five to six books seems to be my normal amount per month so I can’t complain. I feel like I was super lazy though. *lol* I recently discovered the series „Lucifer“ at the library and since they have the first three seasons I decided to borrow them from there. (Yeah, I don’t have Amazon prime if that’s what you were thinking. XD)

So a lot of my usual reading time actually went into watching „Lucifer“ instead of reading the hell out of my books. (With a kid you only have limited free time and you’ve to choose wisely how you spend it. ;P) Thus less time for reading. >_<

Apparently I still got some reading done (mostly at night) and here I am with my 6 January books. (Something tells me February will be even worse because it’s a much shorter month…) Also can someone tell me that I finally need to get my „Nevernight“ groove on!? With all those library books that need to be read I didn’t pick it up for ages, which is bad because I actually liked the beginning.

Anyway, let’s stop complaining and head to my statistic! 😉

Books read: 6

Pages read:  1.903 (6 books and 1.903 pages is actually a pretty decent start for 2020! 😀 )

Average rating:(Funny, I think I never had an even number without a decimal before. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (2 from 2019 andfrom 2020! Yes, you read right!! I actually already read one of the books that’s on my 2020 list!! XD I’ll rock this list!! I’m sure of it! XD)

January Reads:

18216592    34879283__SY475_    37880094

Stealing the Wind: 4 Pfoten

Don’t judge me! I barely read any smut last year so I kind of craved it at the beginning of 2020. *lol* And as smut goes this was actually a pretty fine book. „Stealing the Wind“ was the first book in an m/m mermen series and I was surprised about the focus on the plot. The beginning was rather strange but once the story accelerated I found myself enjoying this immensely. So if you ever wondered how mermen do the nasty live together this might answer your questions… thoroughly! 😛

One Day in December: 4 Pfoten

This book was such a surprise!!! It was on My Book List 2019 because someone recommended it to me last year and I can’t thank that person enough! This was such a sweet love story. Yes, there were some things I wasn’t okay with but the issues were addressed (which is more than I can say for other books) and the ending was absolutely beautiful and perfect! If you want to read more about this book you can do it here!

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy: 4 Pfoten

I absolutely loved this! Feminism, strong women, decent reps, mystery, dragons, adventure… the list of what this book had to offer is long! 😉 It might have been a brick of a book but buy was it fun to read it. Also Monty and Percy had a cameo and they are still as adorable as they were in „The Gentleman’s Guide“! I can’t wait to read book 3! XD

Green but for a Season: 3 Pfoten

It was about time I tackled this short story. I always wondered how Aimeric and Jord ended up together, but unfortunately this book didn’t really deliver what I hoped for. Their love story was only a small part of the storyline and this just wasn’t enough for me. On the positive side, this had a lot of info about young Laurent and how he became the person he is in „Captive Prince“. So there’s that!

The Upside of Unrequited: 4 Pfoten

This was a typical Becky Albertalli book and it definitely made me feel all the fluffy feels. ❤ There were some things I didn’t like about the book though so it actually got 3,5 paws rounded up to four. If you want to read more about my issues with „The Upside of Unrequited“ you can do it here.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: 5 Pfoten

Harry Potter! Do I have to say more? *lol* Once again I was amazed by all the details I missed when I read it for the first time. There are so many things that make sense now! Also Lupin is the best DADA teacher they ever had and I love him to bits and pieces! Plus I realized that „Movie Snape“ and „Book Snape“ are two very different people! And if you ask me „Book Snape“ just can’t be redeemed! There I said it! XD

November Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Well, I guess it’s no surprise that I didn’t get as much reading done as I wanted to in November, but as you already know two of my wisdom teeth got removed. Which was really no fun! I had the operation two weeks ago and it’s still kinda hard to chew so I hope it will get better until Christmas because it would be a shame to miss out on all the awesome food! XD

I still have about two weeks left until the holidays start, so I think I should be fine by then. 😀 (Always optimistic! 😛 ) Of course last month wasn’t any better when it came to illnesses and my reading schedule, considering all the trouble we went through I’m pretty happy about the 5 books I was able to read though. (I have no idea how I even managed to do this, but I won’t complain. *lol*)

And last but not least I started with my „How many books of my TBR 2019 can I pack into the last 4 weeks of the year“ challenge! (As it seems not all too many. XD) But the year isn’t over yet! 😉 Plus if you have any book recommendations don’t hesitate to send them my way. There are still 7 spots left on „My Book List 2020“ and I want to fill them with YOUR favourites! I already got a lot of suggestions but I decided to wait a little longer until I pull them from my bowl! I know we’re all busy and I wanted to make sure that everyone got a chance to take part in it. 😉

This said let’s finally get to my statistic!

Books read: 5

Pages read:  1.467 (Considering the hell this month was it’s actually pretty amazing that I managed to read all those pages! *lol*)

Average rating: 4 (There was one book I rated 2 stars and apparently that sets down the entire rating. XD)

Books that were on my reading list:  2 (2 from 2018 and none from 2019, Jeez! What did I do??)

November Reads:

28243032  35608692__SY475_  331562

40619940  38255342

We Are Okay: 5 Pfoten

This was definitely an unexpected 5 paws read! I never thought I’d love this book so much but the way this was written was just perfect. I loved how Nina LaCour captured the atmosphere and the feelings of Marin, how she was able to convey that profound sense of loss. Just amazing! ❤ If you want to read my full review you can do it here!

Batman: Nightwalker: 4 Pfoten

This was a really nice book to read in between. I kinda enjoyed the approach of Batman as a teen and it was nice to see not only the gloomy side of him but also the friendly one. I mean if you’re familiar with Batman you know that he’s portrayed as either the elusive rich ladies‘ man or the embittered misanthrope. Still, before he became Batman he was a teen like everyone else and I was glad that the book was able to convey that! XD Also: The mind games!!! ❤ Do I even have to say more? *lol*

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: 5 Pfoten

Ahh it’s so good to reread this series! 😀 I should have done this ages ago but for some reason I always read new books instead of HP! Well, I don’t regret that I started with my reread and I’m already looking forward to read „The Prisoner of Azkaban“. And let me tell you this: The foreboding in those books isn’t only real but also overwhelming!!! There are so many details I didn’t notice when I read it for the first time! ❤

Grace and Fury: 2 Pfoten

Okay, „Grace and Fury“ was one of the few books that actually only got two paws from me and if you know me, you also know that it’s pretty rare for me to give such a low rating. So what happened? Too many tropes, too many similarities to other already well known series, a predictable plot and unpersuasive characters. You name it! If you actually want to read more about the many reasons why I didn’t like this book, you can read my rant here! *lol*

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein: 4 Pfoten

And here’s another book that surprised me. In a good way of course. 😉 Mara recommended it to me at the beginning of October and I decided to give it a shot. And tell you what? This was one of the best retellings I ever read. I loved how Kiersten White wrote this and yes, this was kinda dark but I lived and breathed for it. XD All told „The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein“ was a great Halloween read for scaredy cats like me and I can totally recommend it! 🙂
