July Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

How was my July? Good question. To be entirely honest July passed so quickly it’s like it began and was over in the blink of an eye. I was so busy, I have no idea how I even survived this month. *lol* We were 2 co-workers short at work so I had to commute every day, then commuted back to pick up my kid, went home and during the evenings I went to physical therapy. To say it was A LOT to handle wouldn’t even get close to the truth so yeah, it was … exhausting.

I basically fell asleep on my sofa and dragged myself to bed when I startled out of my sleep. Which is definitely not healthy. *lol* How come something that is supposed to be good for me was actually causing me even more stress? XD Anyway, let’s not overthink this. The bottom line is that I was so tired in July that I quite literally slept with my eyes open. (another thing the amazing Kim Taehyung and I seem to have in common. *lol* But seriously, our sleeping habits are uncannily similar… at least when everything you hear in interviews is true.)

So yeah, my exhaustion was no joke and it’s the reason why I only managed to read four books. Truth be told, I’m amazed I even managed to read those four. The good news is that I’m on vacation now and that I’ll use it to catch up on my reading. I really hope to finish HP 5 and one of my review copies soon. (Why do I always start so many huge books at the same time?) And before I continue to speak about the books I want to read, I’ll just talk about the four books I actually managed to read in July. ;-P

Books read: 4 (4 books & 0 webcomic, guess it’s obvious that I was pretty busy in July. >_< )

Pages read: 1.568 (Not all too much but I’m okay with it.)

Average rating: 4,13 (Even though I only read 4 books those 4 were actually pretty great. 😀 )

Books that were on my reading list: 2 ( 0 from 2019, 1 from 2020 and 1 from 2021. Is it just me or am I getting better at holding to my TBR? *lol*)

If This Gets Out: 4 Pfoten,5

I was so lucky to get an ARC of this and it was probably the best ARC I ever got from NetGalley. ❤ No kidding, I’m serious! The entire concept of the book with two boys from a boy band that fall in love behind the scenes was just amazing and then the two authors even tackled a lot of serious topics as well. Hands down one of the best ARCs I ever read! I really want a lot of people to read this! So if you are part of a fandom, love music, enjoy your books with a good LGBTQ+ rep and want to read about the music industry and mental health topics:  Just go for it!! XD (Especially you Taekooker’s out there!!! *lol*) I rated this 5 stars on GR and NetGalley and gave it 4,5 paws on here because I really would have loved the ending to be a little bit less abrupt … or well, I just wanted more of the story after.

I Wish You All the Best: 4 Pfoten

I think this was the first book I ever read that had a non-binary MC and since I’ve been dying to read this since 2019 I was really happy I finally tackled „I Wish You All the Best“. Ben was a really interesting character but the many things they had to deal with were just… a lot! Thankfully they had an amazing sister and awesome friends that helped them through the tough times. Not to mention the wonderful and precious Nathan Allan who is one hell of a cinnamon roll! ❤

Cress: 4 Pfoten

This was already book 3 of „The Lunar Chronicles“ and I enjoyed it immsensely! Cress and Thorne were so adorable and there happened so many things that my mind is still reeling! I really need to get to book 4 soon beause ahhh!! I just need to know how it will end! XD Cinder and Kai gave me life and I just want to have more of them in the next book. Plus I’m very curious about Winter and Jacin. Those two seem to be quite an interesting couple. Let’s hope I’ll be able to tackle „Winter“ soon!

Champion: 4 Pfoten

I finished this book about 2 weeks ago but I’m still not over the freaking ending!!! LIKE AHHHH! How could you do this to me Marie Lu???!!! Her endings always kill me and this one was no exception to the rule! Like it’s hopeful but at the same time it breaks your freaking heart and leaves you bleeding all over the place! GAH! I need to read „Rebel“ and there better be fluffy and sweet and happy moments!!! *dies*

How was your July? Were you exhausted too? Did you ever have to go through physical therapy and if yes did it help you? I can dance again so I take that as a win. XD How was the weather over at your place? In Austria it was super hot and we survived about 3 heat waves already. Did you read a lot of books and if yes which ones?

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

And as always take care and stay healthy and safe!

July Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

So July was a … weird month for me. On the one hand I got a lot of reading done and on the other hand I barely read anything close to the end of the month. I usually don’t tend to write about things like that but my kid and I were at the hospital because she had some sort of seizure. We had to wait for the test results and of course I was worried sick. >_< By now we finally got them though and they were pretty unsuspicious. This is great news, but we still don’t know what caused her to spasm in the first place.  I really hope that it was a one time thing and that it will never happen again… because hell, I was so freaking scared and I don’t EVER want to see my kid like that again. (Sorry for being so blunt and frank here.) So basically the last few days have been some of the worst of my entire life which is the reason I was barely active on here. *takes a deep breath*

Okay, enough of the serious things. Let’s focus on the good things like the fact that my kid told me she loves me and that I reached 300 followers. (which is another huge milestone of my blog) This time around I’ll go for a give-away because I can finally go to the post office again and my drawing of Hermione took way too long. I mean I got 50 more subscribers before I was even able to post it. XD Still, I’m glad so many of you seemed to like it! ❤

And before I forget to mention it: I managed to connect my flickr account to my wordpress page! (Took me long enough to figure out how to do it and I think this might actually qualify for another round of my blog tutorial post „Explain & Gain“. ) So now you can see my flickr gallery at the sidebar of my blog and are able to take a closer look at my photography too. Since I don’t have Instagram, Twitter or any other social media page I figured to link flickr would be a good idea. 😉

This said, let’s go for my monthly Wrap-Up and take a closer look at the books I discovered:

Books read:(7 books &webcomic)

Pages read:  2.420 (As it seems I’m still on a roll and reading a lot of books. Maybe it’s my library that always wants them back and forces me to read them faster. *lol*)

Average rating: 4,13 (Lots of 4 paw ratings this month but only 1 five paws read and this one was EVERYTHING!!! ❤ )

Books that were on my reading list:  2 (from 2019 and 1 from 2020. Hey, at least I manage to read one book from 2020. 😛 )

July Reads:

36120821. sy475     39863399    24473763
32504400. sy475     9814347    15926760

To Kill a Kingdom: 4 Pfoten

This was exactly the kind of bloodthirsty and dark retelling of „Ariel – The Little Mermaid“ I craved for. I had to listen to the Disney version way too often and needed something different to appreciate it again. Thankfully this was exactly what I hoped for and now I can sing „Under the Sea“ with a lot of enthusiasm again. (My kid just loves Ariel and I needed a new spin… badly! *lol*) Also Lira and Elian were quite the pair. 😉

Birthday: 4 Pfoten

I finally wanted to read a book with a good transgender rep and I think „Birthday“ did a really great job. I felt with Morgan and it hurt to see her troubles and how she tried to fit in. Eric was more than just sweet and I loved their friendship so much! ❤ What really got to me was the homophobia in this book though. It was so hurtful to see it through Morgan’s eyes and there were times I just wanted Eric’s father to shut up. >_< Still, this was a great rep and I think that it was own voices made it even more tangible.

Radiance: 4 Pfoten

Now that was an interesting romance and something entirely different. I loved how Brishen and Ildiko had insta-friendship instead of insta-love and their honesty made me laugh so much. Those two were brutally honest about their repulsive appearances and considering that both of their species had a different beauty ideal this was super refreshing. Their humour and their love was amazing and I’m already looking forward to book two. =)

An Exaltation of Larks: 5 Pfoten

One of THE BEST BOOKS EVER!!! ❤ Seriously, if I could marry this book I’d do it without hesitation. I loved this so much!!! I mean we have 3 characters, a few decades, historical background stories like the disappeared of Chile and 9/11, an LGBTQ+ rep, easy banter, Spanish and lots of love! GAH! „An Exaltation of Larks“ was just so good!!! I’ll never stop raving about this book and if you want to know more, you can read my review here! (I’ll most likely try to persuade people to read this until I die! *lol*)

Fangs: 4 Pfoten

This was more some sort of sequential art than a webcomic and I really enjoyed it. The love story between Elsie and Jimmy was really cute and I enjoyed the idea of a vampire dating a werewolf. It makes for a lot of funny situations and they were explored really nicely. Just in case you want to know a little bit more: I wrote a short review on goodreads. 😀

The Lost Hero: 4 Pfoten

I love Uncle Ricks books and this was no exception to the rule. XD There were so many new characters and the plot sounds really interesting so I’m definitely looking forward to continue with this series. My favourite, of course, was Leo Valdez though. *lol* And Will Solace. Damn, I really wish we’d get more of him and speaking of characters I want more of: Percy and Nico di Angelo!!! I want to see more of my precious boys! ❤

Every Day: 4 Pfoten

Oh wow! This book posed so many questions. It’s hard to describe the plot, but it basically comes down to the fact that A. lives a different life every day because A. travels from one body to the next and only spends 24 hours in every body she/he inhabits. One day A. falls in love with a girl though and that’s where the story begins. I’m still not over the knot that became my brain while I read this and I think this book will give me a lot to think about for quite a while. It’s one of those reads that don’t leave you once you finished them. XD If you want to read my review you can do it on goodreads! Also I just realized there’s a movie to go with the book and I’ll try my best to borrow it from the library. 😀

Syrian Brides: 4 Pfoten

This was a nice collection of short stories about Syrian women that are either getting married or have already been married for a while. Some of the stories were very serious and others were amusing, they all had one thing in common though: They gave me a good glimpse at Syrian culture. So I definitely learned that Syrian women are very subtle and deal with their problems in clever and creative ways. *lol*

How was your July? Did you read a lot of books and how is your blog going? Do you feel pressured into reading by books that need to go back to the library soon? Did you notice that I added my flickr gallery to wordpress? Are you going to participate in my give-away and how is the current COVID situation at your country? And most importantly: Can I get a hug? (I really need one. ❤ )

July Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Well, as it seems July was a good month! 😀 I might have only read 6 books but they were HUGE and had lots of pages! *lol* For instance I never thought I’d read „A Tale of Two Cities“ but thanks to Caidyn and his offer to do a buddy read I finally managed to tackle this monster of a book! XD (Thank you so much for doing this buddy read with me!!)

My average rating was a solid 4 paws so I guess this already says enough about the fun I had while reading those amazing books! Unfortunately it’s kind of obvious that I once again didn’t really manage to read some of the books that happen to be on My Book List 2019. I’m horrible, I know! >_<

But hey, I’m getting better at following my book list. From the 5 books I’m currently reading 3 are actually on that list so there’s still hope, right? I got this! Or not!? *lol* Anyway, looking on the bright side of things I upped my reading challange for the third time this year and hopefully will be able to read those 70 books! Wish me luck! I’m sure I’ll need it. 😛

Okay, let’s head directly to my statistic and the short summary now!

Books read: 6

Pages read:  2.402 (And the amount of pages is finally going up again. I might have read one book less than last month, but they had plenty of pages! XD)

Average rating:(I guess I was lucky with the books I chose for this month. ;-P)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (2 from 2018 and 1 from 2019)

June Reads:

The Slow Regard of Silent Things: 4 Pfoten

This was a really beautiful book about a broken girl and the world she lives in. I know this is one of those books you either love or hate and I can say that it won’t be for everyone. I for my part enjoyed it immensely! It was intriguing to find out more about Auri and I loved to get a glimpse at her thoughts. If you’re a fan of „The Name of the Wind“ and are one of us „slightly broken people“ you’re in for a treat! 😉

Wintersong: 4 Pfoten

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS! „Wintersong“ was full of cunning faeries, German legends, sacrifices, music, darkness, frustration, anger and love! This was the perfect read for me and if you’re a sucker for a good faerie story, you’ll be more than just happy to dive into this world. If you want to read my full review you can do it here!

Obsidio: 4 Pfoten

I can’t believe this series is already over! I enjoyed this so much and I loved „Illuminae“ and „Gemina“. ❤ Obsidio was pretty good as well, it unfortunately didn’t reach the high level of angst, plot twists and nail gnawing I went through while reading the first two books though. XD Still, it was a great finale for an amazing series and AIDAN and Nik Malikov are LOVE!!! ❤ (Well, and basically every other MC as well! *lol*) If you dare to, you can find my full-blown enthusiasm here!

A Flight of Broken Wings: 4 Pfoten

This was a review copy and I enjoyed it immensely. A war between angels and humans, lots of political intrigue, an awesome bromance, two interesting MCs and fighting scenes that were off the charts! Nupur Chowdhury delivered a really amazing book and I was glad she gave me the opportunity to read it! =) Plus I adore Ashwin! XD My review.

A Tale of Two Cities: 4 Pfoten

I finally read it!!! YAY! Now I know what Will Herondale meant when he spoke about the book with Tessa! *lol* Dickens had a very interesting writing style though. The first few chapters I didn’t get anything, then it made more and more sense, and by the end of the book I was stunned into silence and thoroughly heart-broken. T_T What a journey! This really was a great classic and I can totally recommend it. 😉

Fruits Basket Vol. 23: 4 Pfoten

I’m still sad this series had to end but after 23 volumes it was no wonder that I eventually reached the final chapter. Plus it was such a wholesome and lovely ending as well! ❤ I’ll always love Kyo, Tohru and Yuki! And the entire Sohma clan for that matter! They were all amazing and unique characters and Fruits Basket will always have a special place in my heart.
