13 authors to read while you’re stuck at home – No self-isolation or quarantine is long enough to read all of those books! ;-P

Hey there my lovelies!

I thought now that the entire world is stuck at home it might be time to introduce you to some of my favourite authors that wrote super long but still amazing series and books! I tried to keep it as diverse as possible and went for different genres and a few not all too known writers as well. I hope that way everyone will find a new series they never heard of before. Maybe it will become your new favourite, who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don’t even ask me how I managed to read most of those books/series. I’m not done with all of them yet, but with some I got pretty far. *lol* And I genuinely hope that I’ll finish some of those series one day. Okay, I’ll probably be old and wrinkled by then, but I’m sure it will have been worth my time.

This said, let’s get this party started! 😛 (Ooof this is going to be a long, long post! *lol*)

1.) Robin Hobb:

21956219
Realm of the Elderlings: 16 books

Genre: Epic/High Fantasy

The Farseer Trilogy: 3 books (read)
The Liveship Traders: 3 books
Tawny Man: 3 books
Rain Wild Chronicles: 4 books

The Fitz and The Fool Trilogy: 3 books

Okay, I only read the first three books of this super long series but „The Farseer Trilogy“ got me hooked! I loved Fitz and the Fool and to know that there is a 5th series that has them in their title is enough to read through every single one of those books! *lol* I’ve never felt and suffered as much with a fantasy protagonist as I did with Fitz in those first three books and I think this is mostly due to Robin Hobbs remarkable talent to keep her readers emotionally engaged. So if you’re looking for an older fantasy series (the first book was published in 1995) that will grip and destroy you, this is most certainly the right choice! 😉

2.) Cassandra Clare:

The Shadowhunter Books: 14 books (so far)

Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult, LGBTQ

The Mortal Instruments: 6 books (read)
The Infernal Devices: 3 books (read)
The Dark Artifices: 3 books (2 books read)
The Last Hours: 1 book (but 2 more planned)

The Eldest Curses: 1 book (2 more planned)

And this isn’t even getting close to the actual number! CC wrote lots of additional stories like „The Bane Chronicles“ or „Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy“ which I didn’t add in my list above. XD So far I’ve loved all of her books and I’m a sucker for the world of the Shadowhunters! I just can’t get enough of it and I’m so glad Cassie is constantly writing new books! If you love emotional and character driven books with quite some action you’re going to devour those! Plus, Cassie always features LGBTQ+ characters and I ship them so hard I can’t even! ❤ Highly recommended!

3.) Janet Evanovich:

2292384__SY475_

Stephanie Plum: 26 books (so far) (13 read)

Genre: Mystery, Fiction, Humor

I made it through half of the books and after all this time I’m still reading the series because it’s so much fun! If you want to read something that will make you laugh out loud Stephanie Plum is the real deal! Our heroine Stephanie is a magnet for crazy situations and she always puts her foot in it. She’s clumsy as hell, her family is hilarious and the two male love interests in this series are so hot they could burn down a house by just looking at it! 😛 And if you actually manage to read all of those 26 books, there’s plenty of other series like „Fox and O’Hare“ that will provide you with even more reading material. 😉 Janet won’t let us down!

4.) V.C. Andrews:

Dollanger: 11 books (5 read)

Genre: Fiction, Horror, Young Adult, Drama

Okay, I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I love V.C. Andrews books! I was a kid when I read „Flowers in the Attic“ for the very first time and believe it or not but this book kind of got me into reading. Not that I didn’t read a lot before, but this was the first book that made me FEEL all kinds of emotions and I was so absorbed in the story that I couldn’t put it aside. XD I’ve read plenty of V.C’s other series like the „Cutler saga“ or „Shooting Stars“ and I still love her books. Are they dramatic, repulsive and shocking to read? Yes, yes they are! But that’s exactly what I love about them and maybe, just maybe you’re a sucker for dark and twisted books too? 😛

5.) Rick Riordan:

Camp Half-Blood Chronicles: 15 books

Genre: Fantasy, Mythology, Middle Grade, YA, LGBTQ+

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: 5 books (read)
The Heroes of Olympus: 5 books
The Trials of Apollo: 5 books

Magnus Chase: 3 books (read)

Well, technically „Magnus Chase“ is no part of the „Camp Half-Blood Chronicles“ but it’s kind of connected with them so I decided to add it in here too! *lol* I loved the „Percy Jackson“ series and I adored „Magnus Chase“ so I really can’t wait to dive into „The Heroes of Olympus“ as well. No one connects mythology with teen adventures as well as Uncle Rick and if you ask me this man is a genius! If you’re looking for a fun adventure that will keep you busy for a while Uncle Rick’s books might be the right thing for you. 😉

6.) Natsuki Takaya:

271199. sx318

Fruits Basket: 23 books (all done!)

Genre: Manga, Fantasy, Romance

This is one of my favourite mangas ever! Fruits basket looks kind of cute and funny and it is, but it’s also very dark and tackles pretty serious topics. I’ve grown so fond of all of those characters and I miss them already. 23 books weren’t enough and if you ask me this series could have gone on even longer. I certainly would have had no problem reading another 23 books. XD

7.) Jim Butcher:

17454029

The Dresden Files: 17 books (5 read)

Genre: Urban Fantasy, Magic, Paranormal, Mystery, Fiction

If you haven’t heard of „The Dresden Files“ already, you clearly missed out on one of the best urban fantasy series ever! Harry Dresden is one hell of a wizard and he seems to have an exceptional talent when it comes to getting into serious trouble! What makes this series very interesting isn’t just the supernatural world but also the action and Harry’s throroughly grey character. This man has rough edges and I live and breathe for them. ❤

8.) Stephen King:

887349

Duddits and about a thousand of his other books!
Genre: Horror, Fiction, Thriller

I have no idea when Stephen King wrote all of those books (63 novels!!!) and hell, I probably didn’t even read 10% of them but I think we can all agree that he’s a master of horror and disgusting stories. *lol* Well, at least the books I read (Desperation, Duddits, Everything’s Eventual, etc.) all had that special „EWWW“ factor! King loves to play with the dark side of humanity and he does it in such a delicious way that you feel like you can’t read on, yet at the same time you want to know how it all ends. If you’re no scaredy-cat and a fan of his thrillers I’m sure you’ll find plenty of books to read. 🙂

9.) J.R. Ward:

42899

Black Dagger Brotherhood: 19 books (11 books read)

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Vampires, Erotica

So this is a series for all of you who like it hot, fast and steamy. 😛 When I first started to read this series a couple of years ago I didn’t have my own Amazon account and my brother-in-law (back then he was just my sisters bf) ordered those books for me. After that he always got advertisements for erotica books and from there on this book series was known as „The vampire porn“ in my family! *lol* I can’t even say they are wrong with that because quite honestly, there is a lot of sex in this book involved. XD The chemistry between those vampire boys and their „mates“ is off the charts and if you want to read about a war between vampires and a secret society that’s out to extinguish them, this should be one hell of a ride for you! 😉

10.) Richelle Mead:

345627

Vampire Academy: 6 books (read)
Bloodlines: 6 books (read)

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Vampires

Admittedely, the covers really don’t do the series justice! >_< Those books would have deserved so much better than this but their content is still amazing! I loved both of those series so much and just in case you wondered „Bloodlines“ plays after „Vampire Academy“ and features a few characters that appeared in the first series. It’s a spin-off and a great one at that! 😀 Enter the world of Moroi, Dhampirs and Strigoi! XD

11.) Ken Follett:

7315573. sy475

The Century Trilogy: 3 books (read)

Genre: Historical Fiction

You think 3 books isn’t a lot? Well, then buckle up and take a closer look at this series! If you add all of them together you get a total of more than 3.000 pages so that makes for quite a lot of quality reading time, don’t you agree? 😛 I swear, no one writes historical fiction like Ken Follett does and once you start with this series you just want to know how the characters fare! You get attached to them and you follow them through the decades. From World War I to World War II and right into modern times. This trilogy tackles it all! 🙂 Be prepared to be invested in the fates of those protagonists like nobody’s business! *lol*

12.) Terry Pratchett

34497

Discworld: 25 books

Genre: Fantasy, Science Fiction, Humor, Magic, Adventure

Discworld – Rincewind: 8 books (2 books read)
Discworld – Witches: 6 books (2 books read)
Discworld – Industrial Revolution: 6 books

Discworld – Death Series: 5 books (3 books read)

I’m pretty sure there are even more books in this series but I decided to write down the ones I’ve read already. XD If I’d write them all down it would probably never end. *lol* This said if you never read Terry Pratchett before, you should go grab a book and give it a shot! His books are so much fun and I especially love the „Discworld – Death Series“. Death is so funny! I can’t even! ❤ He’s my favourite character for sure!

13.) Jay Kristoff

The Nevernight Chronicle: 3 books (1 book currently reading)
The Illuminae Files: 3 books (read)

Genre: Fantasy, Adult, Science Fiction

This man can write!!! If you want something fast paced that will keep you at the edge of your seat then you should definitely go for „The Illuminae Files“. Yes, the format of those books is crazy but boy are they good! XD This series was a revelation and I paged through all of those 3 books in no time! Jay also wrote another series I just started „The Nevernight Chronicles“ and I already like the promise of it. So if you’ve lots of time you might as well make sure to check it out too. 😉
Rankenzeile

Wow! That was a really long list! Did anyone bother to count how many books I just recommended to you? No? Well, good that I’m such a sucker for numbers: It were 190! If that’s not enough, then I dunno! 😛 (I read 108 of them so 82 more to go! *lol*)

Did you already know some of the books I just mentioned? Is there at least one series you never heard of before? Did any of those books capture your interest? Will you give it a shot?

Talk to me and let me know! 😀

And as always: Stay healthy and safe! ❤
