Review: Nick and Charlie (Alice Oseman)

49438663

Rating: 4 Pfoten

”No, but – “ he shakes his head – “you’re Nick and Charlie.”
I laugh. “What does that mean?”
“It’s …” He laughs too, a nervous expulsion of air.
“You’re … it’s hard to explain. It’s like, if you had to provide evidence for soul mates, everyone would pick you two.”

I can’t believe this were only 159 pages, yet they packed such a punch! Leave it to Alice Oseman to put us through the emotional wringer. *lol* Seriously, to read “Nick and Charlie” was such a roller coaster and my emotional bandwidth went from happy to sad and depressed right smack back into slap happy and cosy territory! It was…. A LOT! XD

”People we know usually message Charlie these days when they want to talk to either of us because I’m horrific at replying to messages. He’s way more organised than me.”

First of all let me tell you how much I loved to see the entire “Heartstopper” crew again! I loved to read about those tiny details like the fact that people will text Charlie because they know Nick is with him. I mean this was such a nice look at their every day life and extremely wholesome to read about! ❤ Also their sweet and fluffy moments. They are just too adorable together and I guess I’m guilty of thinking “They are Nick and Charlie” too! I mean, they are! With some couples you just know that they are meant to be together forever and those two are like the epitome of this feeling!

”After a few seconds I go to move backwards, but he just pulls me further down. I laugh against his lips and I feel him smile too, but neither of us stop and after a minute or so I feel my hand subconsciously reach to run through his hair.“

Unfortunately Nick is leaving for uni soon and that causes quite the trouble between them. They wouldn’t be Nick and Charlie if they wouldn’t be able to manoeuvre around that bump in the road though, right?! Well, I suppose you’ll have to find that out for yourself. Not gonna spoil anything! ;-P What I can say for sure is that I absolutely love Tori and Nick’s mum! They are amazing and I really wish every LGBTQIA+ teen would have people like them in their lives! You need the support of loved ones and those two did an excellent job! As did Aled Last! Gosh! It was so good to see more of Aled in here! I just love my boy and I missed him ever since I read the last page of “Radio Silence”. ❤
Plus can we acknowledge how he is so damn good with Charlie’s feelings? He always said the right things and was the person that gave the best advice.

”You okay though?” he asks. “I feel like you’ve been really down today.”
I pause, a little taken aback. “Oh. Yeah. No. I’m fine.”
“Yeah?” He fiddles with his fingers and gives me a look.
“Yeah. I don’t know. Nick’s just talking a lot about uni, it’s kind of … just makes me feel a bit crap… I don’t know.” I groan and run a hand through my hair. “That sounds so bad when I say it out loud.”
“No, you’re allowed to feel things.” He smiles. “I get it.”

This said I really enjoyed reading “Nick and Charlie”! It was a great addition to the main series and it’s always so nice to be back in the world of “Heartstopper”! For me it felt like coming home and meeting a lot of good old friends, which is legit one of the best feelings ever! =)

”I think he just took them because he wanted to remember what this was like. What our life is like now. Chilling round each other’s houses, going on walks, eating together, sleeping together.
It sounds boring but it’s so wonderful.
It is. I feel myself tear up just looking at our life together.
I love this. I love us. I love our weird, boring life.”

SASSY Saturday

SASSY Saturday

Hey there my lovelies!

Welcome back to another round of my montly blog meme „SASSY Saturday“!

How does it work? Well, that’s easy! 😉

All you have to do is to follow those three golden rules:

1. Credit the creator of this tag (The Sassy Library Fox) and link back. (so I can see all your amazing answers!)
2. Answer the 5 questions below!
3. AND enjoy doing the blog meme! 😛

„SASSY Saturday“ is planned to be a monthly meme but if you want to do it more often feel free to go for it! This meme was created to get to know other bloggers, their new obsessions and to reflect on your own last month! Above all it was created to have fun though! 😉 If you want you can also use the banner I created! This said let’s head to the good part:

S – Series you loved this month

You’re Beautiful: Okay this k-drama is definitely very unknown because I never heard of it until it popped up on my Netflix feed. *lol* But boy was it good!! I was buddy watching this with the Yoongi to my V once again and we both loved it so much. (Honestly it was so funny we laughed tears.) It’s about a girl that has a twin brother named Ko Mi-nam who’s an idol and his manager is desperate and convinces her to pose as her brother because Mi-nam has gone abroad in order to get surgery. So yeah, of course she says yes and suddenly finds herself in the k-pop bands apartment and is forced to pose as her brother for weeks. *lol* I guess you can already imagine all the trouble she gets into while she’s posing as her brother and if you know anything about k-pop idols you know they are all gorgeous and sweet. So yeah, being a girl among them… *flame and hearty eyes emoji* *LOL*

Heartstopper: I won’t say a lot about „Heartstopper“ in here because I basically binge watched the entire series in a week (Yes, as a parent that’s binging for you. *lol*) and wrote an entire blog post about it! Yes, it was me raving about the series non-stop and if you’ve missed the blog post here’s the link: „Heartstopper“ TV series: I legit smiled through my tears! T_T Enjoy! ;-P

A – Author you discovered

32855079. sy475

L. Philips – Sometime After Midnight

I legit only read 3 books last month and it’s a miracle but I actually haven’t read any of the authors before. *lol* So I’m kinda spoilt for choice but I’ll just pick the book that got the most paws from me and that was „Sometime After Midnight“! It’s about two boys that come from totally different backgrounds and meet one night at a concert, but before anything happens the boy in the converse runs away and Cameron is left with a picture of his shoes. *lol* So yep, it started out as some sort of Cinderella retelling but it turned into so, so, so much more! Honestly I will write a long review about this because it deserves it! ❤

S – Song you couldn’t get enough of

Jimin & Ha Sungwoon – With You

I swear as ARMY you never have a quiet minute! *lol* Especially not when our boys prepare for a comeback in June! First Jimin & Ha Sungwoon’s OST came out and only a couple of days later SUGA released his „That That“ with Psy. *lol* Since I’ll probably listen to „That That“ all of May and will feature it in my next SASSY Saturday I decided to go with Jimin’s OST this month. XD It’s really so good and his lovely voice gets a chance to shine. =) It’s very calming and I love to listen to it on the train.

S – Surprise – Something that totally caught you off guard

Haha! There were so many things that caught me off guard in April. In good and bad ways I may add. *lol* The super bad surprise was that my hubby actually got Covid right before Easter and our Easter holidays were spent in quarantine. >_< My hubby had to stay at home for 10 days and my kid was at home too because she could have infected other kids at the kindergarten and I was the only one that was allowed to go out and do grocery shopping etc. So uff. It was a busy time. XD Plus even more busy because at the beginning of April I decided to go on an educational sabbatical for a year and I had to organize everything at work and in my freetime. But hey, it has to get better now, right? *lol*

Y – Your fave blog post of another blogger

BTS (Bangtan Boys): J-Hope @ BooksWithNatasa

I really like this series on Natasa’s blog and even though I’ve been ARMY for years I still find out new things about our boys! ❤ I love that she gives all of them a moment to shine and it’s always fun to read her posts! =) If you don’t know her blog yet and are ARMY as well you need to check it out. Also she posts a lot about books as well so as a reader you can’t go wrong either! *lol* 😉 I think what I want to say is: Go to Natasa’s blog! XD

What do you think about „SASSY Saturday“? Would you like to join the fun? Have you watched „Heartstopper“ too and what did you think about it? Who is your fave character from the show? Did you have to go through quarantine as well and how is the current Covid situation in your country? (Over here it’s slowly getting better) And which new author did you discover last month?

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

And as always, stay healthy and safe!

„Heartstopper“ TV series: I legit smiled through my tears! T_T

Hey there, my lovelies!

For a long time I didn’t know what to write as my Saturday post but after finishing the Netflix adaptation of “Heartstopper” yesterday I decided that I needed to talk about this show because damn it!!! It’s so, so, SO good! How could I not rave about this show? XD

Just to give you a warning if you haven’t watched the series in full yet: There will be some spoilers ahead so please keep that in mind before you continued to read. I don’t want to hold back and honestly, I can’t hold myself back. I just need to rave and let it out! *lol*

So this said let’s jump right into it and talk about this awesome show!

  • The first thing I have to point out here is the actors! They all did such a great job and I love that they are all truly diverse!! If you follow the show on IG you might have seen some interviews with the actors and I just love that they are part of the LGBTQAI+ community as well. I mean Joe Locke who plays Charlie is actually gay, Yasmin Finney who plays Elle is a trans girl and the person that plays Darcy goes by they/them pronouns! I can’t say how happy it makes me that there is actual and real representation in this show! They know what they are acting and talking about because they made the experiences themselves! This is amazing and I love it so much!! Alone because of this the series feels so authentic and real!

Netflix confirma el reparto completo de 'Heartstopper'

  • They really held to the comic and there were scenes when you could have taken the comic in hand and would have seen the same scene on screen! ❤ I don’t even have to tell you how amazing this is because everyone who loves book series and saw the movie adaptations knows how often they get it wrong. Not here! Nope!! The “Heartstopper” crew did a marvellous job and I loved how many scenes they took from the comics. Also the leaves!!! AHHH! And the little comic moments like for instance the literal “lightning” that sparked over their hands when Nick wanted to take Charlie’s hand into his! ADKFASKFDASJDFK!
  • It was nice to get additional members of the cast and to see the girl’s school and troubles as well. In the comic their story was told through memories but in the Netflix show we see a lot of it happening in the same time line and that was just great! I loved that Elle and Tao’s story got a chance to shine as well and the fact that Darcy and Tara were such a huge part in the show made me really happy! =) Not to mention Tao’s amazing comebacks! That boy!! He’s at least as quick-witted as I am and whenever he talked back to Harry I was grinning to myself. *lol*

Netflix's "Heartstopper" Cast: Meet the Characters and ...

  • The Tori and Isaac appreciation moment! I can’t even put into words how much I loved Tori and her short appearances! This girl always comes out of thin air and is the best sister ever! ❤ When she comforted Charlie I basically cried with them. T_T Also Tori has such great one-liners I can’t even. Haha! She’s amazing! Isaac is a character that wasn’t introduced to us in the comics and got included in the show but I really loved him and his calm nature. Plus the way he picks up on romantic feelings! It’s like he has some sort of radar for it! XD I really hope we’ll get more of Isaac in the next season and I can’t wait to see where his character will go. (My bestie and I talked about him and we both got an aro/ace vibe from him so yeah, I don’t know if that is true but it would be amazing to have an aro/ace rep in this show as well!)
  • Kit Connor’s acting! This boy is awesome! I absolutely loved how he conveyed Nick’s feelings! From the confusion he felt about falling for Charlie, right to feeling torn about his friends and the way they behaved towards the person he loved. His insecurity whenever he was confronted with his sexuality and his fear of coming out. ARADFKLASDFJASKDF! Also that scene when he tried to figure out his sexuality and did some research on the internet! I loved that they took this 1:1 from the comic and it’s such an important representation because ahh it really happens! I can relate and probably everyone else can too! XD

Apple MacBook Laptop Used By Kit Connor As Nick Nelson In Heartstopper S01E06 "Girls" (2022)

  • The “lifeline hugs”!! And yes I’m giving them their own spot because they are so damn amazing!! Find yourself someone that hugs you like Nick Nelson hugs Charlie Spring!!! ❤ Like his life would depend on it, like he’s the only thing that matters, like he’s the only one that understands and sees him, like he’s the most precious and important thing in the world!! ADKFASDFJASDFLASDFJADFJKLFDJASDKFLASD! *dies*

Netflix on Twitter: "Find somebody who hugs you like Nick ...

  • Ben and Harry! They were as horrible and despicable as in the comic and the two actors who played them did a really amazing job! Especially if you looked behind the scenes and saw that they are nothing like Ben and Harry in real life. *lol* That’s great acting right there!
  • And last but not least: My favourite scenes! Their first kiss in the empty ballroom had me laughing and crying at the same time! Not to mention the scene when Nick comes to Charlie the next day all wet in the rain! ARGH!!! They were so damn adorable and the chemistry of the two actors blew the screen! I absolutely loved and adored their acting. You could really feel their cuteness and I think the sentence I wrote the most to my bestie while watching was “Why are they so damn adorable?!” *lol* I think my two favourite scenes are the one when Nick wanted to hold Charlie’s hand – and you literally could see the sparks flying – and the scene of Nick coming out to his mum! I’m still crying about that one, I did when I read the comic and I did while watching the show. I really wish every parent of a member of the LGBTQAI+ community would react the same way Nick’s mum did. The way she made sure that he knew he was still her son and that she’d always love him no matter what… T_T I’m in tears again! ❤ This moment was so precious and my heart is bleeding for every member of the LGBTQAI+ community that didn’t get it. If you read this and your coming out wasn’t as smooth as Nick’s: You are loved and special and you are amazing! Don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise! ❤

23 gay reactions to the Nick Nelson coming out scene in Heartstopper

Rankenzeile

I probably could go on and on raving about this series but I think I’ll just end it here before it truly gets out of hand! (If it didn’t already. *lol*) As you can see I really loved the show and I’m so tempted to rewatch it again and to watch out for the things I missed the first time around. XD I’m sure I missed so many things because I was just too excited to finally see it on screen.

Anyway! What about you?! Did you read the comics and watch the show?! Did you enjoy it as much as I did and if yes what were your favourite moments? What do you think about the acting and the diverse representation? Do you think the series is as good as the comics or even better?!

Talk to me and let me know!

And as always take care and stay healthy and safe! ❤

March Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Well, March was definitely not my month. *lol* I barely managed to read anything and my health was basically non-existent for about two weeks. Some of you might already know that I have asthma because I’m pretty certain I already wrote about it in one of my former blog posts and this year it was acting up big time again. In the middle of March I could barely breathe and every single breath was an effort, well and then I had some sort of anaphylactic shock because apparently I ate something wrong and from there on out things only got even worse. >_< I got a respiratory tract infection on top of everything else and was knocked out for two weeks straight.

It was so bad I actually didn’t leave my flat for those two mentioned weeks and spent my days just sleeping and doing nothing. At the end I could at least watch Netflix, but it took me really long to be healthy enough to read again. So yeah, my reading suffered and my new BookTube channel collected some dust. XD Thankfully the subscribers I already had didn’t desert me and just patiently waited for more content. *lol* If you’re one of them and reading this now: THANK YOU SO MUCH!! ❤  I think the only reason my blog didn’t suffer was because I always write my blog post at least 2 weeks in advance … I did struggle when I got back though. I had no more blog posts and still didn’t feel well enough to write new ones. Somehow it still worked out, don’t ask me how because I really don’t know! Haha!

I’m really sorry if I missed some of your blog posts and I’ll definitely make sure to catch up on everything! I’m currently taking my asthma spray each day so that it won’t act up again and I went back to work as well. Let’s hope it will never get this bad again. XD This said let’s talk about the 5 books I actually DID manage to read! *lol* ;-P

Books read: 5 (5 books & 0 webcomic, Considering the month I had 5 books is actually an achievement. *lol*)

Pages read:  2.527 (I finally finished „Darkdawn“ and „Crescent City“ so that’s why the page number is so high.)

Average rating: 4,4 (I’m not surprised about this rating because the books were all great!)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (from 2020 and 3 from 2021. Finally a month in which I actually read books from my 2021 book list! *lol*)

March Reads:

52783987. sy475       43307358. sy475      43597287. sy475

46045411. sy475       17683

Darkdawn: 4 Pfoten

I really enjoyed the final book in this trilogy, especially because it was a buddy read with my Yoongi! ❤ Unfortunately the ending was a little bit too much for my taste and even though we finally got some answers „Darkdawn“ wasn’t as good as the other two books. I wasn’t happy about how things ended and after everything Mia went through I really wished for idk… more closure. A different kind of closure? *lol* I still can’t put my finger on it. All I know is that I didn’t like the ending and a certain someone! XD Yoongi, you know who I mean! Haha! ;-P

Heartstopper: 5 Pfoten

I love this comic series and I’ll always love it until the day I die. Am I exaggerating? Nope! Never! It’s really such a great series and Alice Oseman knows exactly what she’s doing. I love all the diversity, the relatable characters, the many LGBTQ+ reps, the strong friendships, the different troubles and the fact that the sibilings and parents actually care about the MCs! This is such a heartwarming comfort read and I can recommend it to everyone! If you crave to read something wholesome: This is the right choice for you!

This book totally surprised me and definitely wasn’t what I expected it to be! It was really great though and despite the very serious topics that were tackled it was still an enjoyable read and I paged through it in no time. January and August were a great couple and I loved the little snippets we got of the real life of authors. XD Also I think Emily Henry named them January and August not only to give them both month names but also to emphasize how different they are. *lol* Smooth move! XD

House of Eart and Blood: 5 Pfoten

This book was one hell of a ride and even though the real action only started after page 500 it was still amazing! I loved to get to know this world and all the different houses and hierarchies within it. This was well thought-out and I adored all the strong friendships and bonds between the characters. ❤ Also the slow-burn that started as a friendship and with time turned into more was great! We definitely need more books like that! My full review will be up on here soon! 😉
Dead Beat: 4 Pfoten

I think this was one of the best Dresden Files books so far! I mean there were necromancers, vampires, fallen angels, a little bit of faeries and of course Thomas, Harry’s dog and Bob the skull! XD What’s not to love? *lol* This series is definitely getting darker and darker with every new book though and I’m kind of curious where Butcher will go with Harry’s character. Considering this was only book 7 it seems like I’ve a lot to look forward to. And tell you what? I’m ready. *lol*

How was your March? Did you read many books and if yes were they good? 🙂 Are you allergic too or am I the only one who’s suffering in spring? What have you been up to in March? Were you able to go out and to enjoy the nice weather or is your country in another lockdown like mine? XD

December Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I don’t know about you but I’m kind of relieved 2020 is over and that we can start into a completely new year. 2021 has to be better than 2020 ever was because I finally want to be able to say something positive in my Wrap-Ups. *lol* December was… in many ways as shitty as all the other months of 2020 and on some days it was even worse so yeah. Add work and stress to the mix and you get an idea how bad it actually was. XD

Anyway! I won’t be negative and we need all the positivity we can get in order to start 2021 right so I’ll think about nice things! For instance the Christmas dinner with my family on the 24th. We only were allowed to meet up to 10 people on two days (the 24th & 25th) and I celebrated Christmas with my family on the 24th. It was so good to see them after almost two months and I’m just happy I could celebrate and eat dinner with them. ❤ I hope there will be more family dinners in 2021 again and I’m already looking forward to the summer when hopefully everything will get a little bit more normal again.

This said I was able to spend two weeks at home and it was amazing! I needed those two weeks off work and I’m so glad I could indulge in my hobbies. For instance I started to do Yoga again and I got super motivated to dance which is mostly due to BTS. They are all so amazing and they made me want to get back into dancing. I know I’ll never reach their level again (I actually was at their level before I injured my knee and added insult to injury with a muscle fibre rupture in my shoulder a couple of years ago. Yes I’m a wreck. *lol*) but just to dance makes me so damn happy and I’m basically glowing ever since I started to do it more often again. =) It brings me joy and heaven knows we need to grasp every thread of happiness we can get. So even though I can’t do things like the amazing ballet spin (Jungkook and Jimin did at the 2020 MMA’s) anymore, I’m still happy I can dance! 😀

And before I continue to gush about dancing I’ll just head to my Wrap-Up! *lol* So here we go:

Books read: 7 (7 books & 0 webcomic, At first it looked like I’d only read two books in December and then the holidays happened so 7 it is. XD)

Pages read:  2.698 (That’s a lot of pages because many of those books had more than 400 pages.)

Average rating: 4,00 (This seems to be a precision landing once again. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (from 2019 and 3 from 2020. Guess my efforts to read some of my 2020 books paid off in the end. 😉 )

December Reads:

52518647. sx318 sy475      39325226. sy475        39679076
48721348    54386750     36481352. sy475

Imagine Me: 2 Pfoten, 5

Everyone who read my review of „Imagine Me“ knows how bitter I felt about this book. >_< After the initial amazing trilogy and the great fourth and fifth book I expected something awesome or at least a worthy ending for such a long series. But all I got were even more questions and a half-baked plot that constantly made me want to … well puke. (at least the Juliette chapters) The only thing that saved this for me were Kenji and Warner and even those two weren’t enough. So: Nuh-uh! No, nopedy nope. T_T

Dear Evan Hansen: 3 Pfoten

I absolutely love the „Dear Evan Hansen“ soundtrack and I’ve been listening to it like crazy after I read the book. I can’t help but wonder if the musical and the book are the same though. In general this wasn’t a bad book but I kind of disliked that Evan lied so much and that it ultimately didn’t have all too many consequences for him. I don’t know if the musical is the same but all that lying made me feel really uncomfortable. Especially because he wasn’t called out on it. That’s just my opinion though. If you want to read my full review you can do it here!

House of Salt and Sorrows: 4 Pfoten

I absolutely adored this retelling of „The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes“ and for a debut this was amazing! =) The dark and eerie atmosphere of Highmoor was super creepy and I loved that this played on an island. I could almost taste the salt creeping into every corner of that manson by the sea and I lived and breathed for this haunted house. *lol* Truth be told this would have been a great Halloween read. XD

The Starless Sea: 5 Pfoten

This was AWESOME! Like seriously, an entirely different level of awesome! I loved this book so much and even though I know that it won’t be for everyone I can definitely say that it was perfect for me! 😉 I just loved everything about „The Starless Sea“ and I adore Erin Morgenstern’s imagination. It’s no wonder it always takes her so long to write her books but if that is what comes out of those many years I’ll accept the long wait without complaining. Such a masterpiece of storytelling. I just loved it! ❤

Teddy Spenser Isn’t Looking for Love: 4 Pfoten

I got this as an ARC from NetGalley and I enjoyed it a lot! XD I wanted a sweet rom-com and I got one with „Teddy Spenser Isn’t Looking for Love“. Of course some of the tasks they had to do in this book were kind of ridiculous but it definitely made for good entertainment. *lol* Also I loved that there was a pan rep in here! They are rare to find and it was nice to see one, though admittedly it could have been more pronounced. Still, if you want to escape reality for a few hours I can totally recommend this book! 😉

Godsgrave: 4 Pfoten,5

Jay Kristoff managed to WOW me once again! This went in an entirely different direction than I expected but it was amazing nevertheless. I loved Mia’s character arc and that she started to question her decisions. And can we please appreciate all those plot twists I never saw coming? >_< Just amazing! I can’t wait to read „Darkdawn“ but I’ve to admit that I’m scared as hell. *lol* As long as Sabrina @ Notes From A Paper Plane Nomad is going to buddy read this with me as well I’ll be fine though. XD

Heartstopper: 5 Pfoten

When my library finally got this as a paperback I just couldn’t resist! I’ve been reading „Heartstopper“ for years as a webcomic but it felt really good to hold it in my hands and to turn the pages! =D Plus I finally had the time to look more at the details and to enjoy the drawings and facial expressions. This will always be one of my fave LGBTQ+ stories and Alice Oseman will always be one of my fave authors as well. ❤
