SASSY Saturday

SASSY Saturday

Hey there my lovelies!

Welcome back to the third round of my new montly blog meme „SASSY Saturday“!

How does it work? Well, that’s easy! 😉

All you have to do is to follow those three golden rules:

1. Credit the creator of this tag (The Sassy Library Fox) and link back. (so I can see all your amazing answers!)
2. Answer the 5 questions below!
3. AND enjoy doing the blog meme! 😛

„SASSY Saturday“ is planned to be a monthly meme but if you want to do it more often feel free to go for it! This meme was created to get to know other bloggers, their new obsessions and to reflect on your own last month! Above all it was created to have fun though! 😉 If you want you can also use the banner I created! This said let’s head to the good part:

S – Series you loved this month

After a super long break I fell back into „The Blacklist“ rabbit hole! *lol* I really love this series and I made it to season 4 before my interest started to crumble. I dunno why but for some reason it felt like the series lost its bite. (Or maybe it was just me overindulging?) Either way I really enjoyed the second half of season 4 and right now I’m at the beginning of season 5. Red is such an intriguing villain and I love the way he thinks. He’s so cunning it’s astounding. Also I LOVE and ADORE Dembe and Aram! ❤ Still, Samar is starting to annoy me and if she isn’t nice to my man Aram I’ll stop shipping them! He deserves only the best!!! XD

A – Author you discovered

32504400. sy475

I got an e-ARC of „An Exaltation of Larks“ by Suanne Laqueur and I already love this book so much! ❤ It’s been a while I read a book that stretches over a couple of decades and accompanies its characters but I’ll never get tired of those books! Laqueur’s writing style immediately managed to capture my interest and I’m so glad there are 2 more books in this series waiting to be read! (The fact I didn’t even finish the first one says A LOT about how much I’m enjoying it right now! *lol*)

S – Song you couldn’t get enough of

Andra Day – Rise Up

I love the lyrics of this song and Andra Day’s voice is amazing!!! ❤ I always get goose bumps just listening to her and the way this builds up is just beautiful. XD

S – Surprise – Something that totally caught you off guard

I GOT APPROVED FOR AN ARC!!!! *lol* No, seriously! I joined NetGalley a couple of months ago and so far all my requests got declined and the books I got were from the „Read Now“ section. But not this one!!! I’ve been dying to read „Boyfriend Material“ and it’s been on my TBR for months. (though another goodreads glitch apparently deleted my pre-review >_<) Well, either way! When I logged into NetGalley last week I was so excited to see that I got approved for the e-arc! I swear I quite literally jumped up and down and did an embarrassing happy dance! Needless to say that I was too pumped to sleep. *lol* As an international book blogger it’s kind of tough to get the books you want so I’m even more excited it worked out this time around! YAY! 😀

Y – Your fave blog post of another blogger

„The School for Good and Evil“ Book Tag (original)

It’s about time to give the lovely Sabrina @ Notes From a Paper Plane Nomad a shout-out! I loved her original book tag and even though I still didn’t manage to get to it, you can bet your lovely behind that I’ll definitely go for it in near future! 😛 I loved her graphics and the promts! ❤ And I think it’s about time I start to read this series! Sabrina is making me really curious! *lol*

What do you think about „SASSY Saturday“? Would you like to join the fun? Did you discover a new favourite song and what was able to surprise you this month?

The Awesome Blogger Award

Hey there, my lovelies! 🙂

A while ago (in March, I’m such a snail 😭) Miri @ The Book Dragoness nominated me for „The Awesome Blogger Award“ and I can’t thank her enough for tagging me! ❤ Miri is awesome, as is her blog, so it’s no wonder she was nomitated for this award. (I have no explanation for my nomination though, so umm yeah, let’s move on. *lol*) I can’t wait to answer all those interesting questions and I hope you’ll enjoy to read this blog post as well. 😉

The award was created by Maggie @ Dreaming of Guatemala. This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.

The Awesome Blogger Award Rules

 • Thank the blogger who nominated you
 • Credit the creator (I would have loved to place a link to Maggie’s page but the one I followed wasn’t active anymore. Does anyone know if her blog still exist?!)
 • Tag this post with #AwesomeBloggerAward
 • Answer all the questions given to you
 • Nominate some people
 • Write 10 questions for them to answer

Rankenzeile

1. What is your favorite spread on bread (jam, butter, etc) if you eat bread?

It used to be butter and honey, but since I started to have allergic reactions to honey (apparently being allergic to bees and wasps has something to do with it) I decided to go with strawberry jam. *lol* If the bread is fresh I love to eat it without anything though. There’s nothing better than fresh bread. XD

2. Describe your perfect reading nook! (stealing from my own answers)

Ahh don’t even get me started. I’m still dreaming of my own library room in my own house! There’d be a cozy window bench with an amazing sight into my garden and in winter when it’s cold and snowy outside, I’d sit there sipping my coffee while reading a book. I’m thinking about something like this:

 source: http://www.homedesign.de

Unfortunatley I neither have my own house nor my own garden and therefore this will have to be a dream. T_T

3. Did you experience any funny #oops moments as a blogger?

Mhmm I don’t think I had one of those yet. *lol* If I ever experience one I’ll make sure to let you know! 😉

4. Which book review you wrote is your favorite?

According to goodreads I wrote 343 reviews and I still think that I haven’t written my favorite review… yet. XD Maybe I’m too hard on myself but I still think that there are way better and more talented bloggers out there than me. I know I’m kinda shooting myself in the foot here, but it’s the truth. Can’t argue with the truth, right? *lol*

5. How has your blog changed over time?

I think content-wise it changed A LOT. When I started my blog I mostly posted book reviews and rarely went for a tag. It was all over the place and I didn’t have a schedule and posted whenever I could. With time I figured out a schedule, started to create my own blog memes and since last year I even managed to do a monthly wrap-up. Also: My graphics improved! *lol* At the beginning I drew everything by hand, now I’m working with Canva and it really helped to give my blog some colour! Plus it looks a little bit more professional. At least I think it does. XD (Okay, my review and privacy policy might have helped too. 😛 )

6. If you could eat or drink one fictional treat, what would it be?

BUTTERBEER!!! *lol* And Bertie Bott’s beans! Also I’d love to get my hands on „Lashani Blue“. It’s an alcoholic beverage that’s mentioned in Scott Lynch’s „Gentleman Bastard“ series and it sounds great. XD

7. What’s your opinion on cliffhangers?

I love to hate them. 😛 Cliffhangers and I have some sort of love-hate relationship, because they can be soo good but destroy you at the same time. (especially if you have to wait 2 years until the next book comes out!!)

8. If you could read one book NOW that’s yet to be published, what book would it be?

45044785

I think I’ll still go with „The Silvered Serpents“ here! Just in case I didn’t mention it (and I’m sure I only must have mentioned it about a thousand times by now) I really, really, really, really, REALLY want to read this book! BADLY! T_T

9. How did you choose your blog name?

Well, that’s kind of a little bit difficult to explain but I’ll try my best. Okay, admittedly the „Sassy“ and „Library“ part is easily explained: I’m sassy and I love libraries (I always say they are my sanctuary) so those two came rather naturally. 😉 As for the fox part: The fox isn’t only my spiritual animal but it also stands for a lot of character traits I seem to have. 😛 Plus another reason, of course, is that in mythology (Japanese folklore) they are shape shifters and if that doesn’t fit to me perfectly then I don’t know. XD

10. Finally, what made you start your awesome book blog?

I still blame it on the goodreads word limit! *lol* But seriously, if they wouldn’t force me to use less and less words to describe all my thoughts and feelings, I probably would have never started my own blog. XD I’m a wordy person, I just can’t help it! 😛 So if you enjoy my blog and my super long reviews you might as well thank goodreads for causing me to start my own blog! 😉

I tag:

My questions:

 1. Which kind of music do you like?
 2. Are you rather an introvert or an extrovert?
 3. Which city is your favourite city in the world and why?
 4. In which kind of bookish universe would you love to live in?
 5. How has your blog changed over time? (I’ll just steal that one from Miri because it’s really such an interesting question!)
 6. When you meet someone new: What do you pay attention to first?
 7. Describe yourself in 7 words. (Why seven? Because it’s the magical number! 😛 )
 8. Which kind of superpower would you love to have?
 9. What’s your secret talent?
 10. Why did you start blogging?

Rankenzeile

This was a lot of fun! So thank you once again for nominating me, Miri! ❤ To everyone I nominated: I hope my questions are as interesting as Miri’s and I’m looking forward to read your answers! XD

Stay safe and healthy!

Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs

hugs'n'kisses or dismissed by the missus

Hey there, my lovelies!

Gee! I really should do those more often. >_< But then again I only do them when I started to read the book of the last one and this time around it took me ages to get to it. *lol* What can I say? All those library books I borrowed got in the way. At the moment my library is closed though so I figured I could squeeze in a new book from my meme! This said let’s start with the fun! 😉

The rules:

1.) Link back to the original post @ The Sassy Library Fox (I really want to know if it works out for you and I’m curious about your book choices! ;-))

2.) Choose 3 random numbers from 1 to the end of your TBR list. (In my case it are 3 random numbers from 1 – 293, so for instance I’ll pick 61, 138 and 217)

3.) Take a look at the 3 books on your TBR. (61 – Broken Ink, 138 – Brooding YA Hero, 217– Radiance)

4.) Then you follow the rhyme:

One to hug and read, (Radiance: This is perfect! „Radiance“ is on My Book List 2020 so I had to hug and read this! XD)

One to kiss and keep, (Broken Ink: I’m still intrigued by the idea of this and I’m so going to pick this up once I need a dark m/m book.)

One to dismiss and weep! (Brooding YA Hero: This has been on my TBR for ages and I don’t think I’ll read this anytime soon. The ratings I saw weren’t all that amazing as well so I’ll just dismiss it. If fate truly wants me to read this it will land on my feed again. *lol*)

5.) Read the book you hugged and kept within a month and repeat the process as often and as frequently as you like. (I’ll do this once a month and hopefully it will help me to reduce my TBR ;-P)

Rankenzeile

Sooo since I’ve been pretty sloppy with this meme and added way too many books to my TBR (that’s what being cooped up at home will do to you *lol*) there are still 291 books on my list. My goal is still to get it down to 275 by the end of this year so I better try to be consistent in future! I’ve no doubt that I’ll read „Radiance“ in no time though. 😛

SASSY Saturday

SASSY Saturday

Hey there my lovelies!

I already said that I want to come up with something original this year and decided to host another blog meme! So welcome to „SASSY Saturday“!

I started with „Tales of the City“ on Netflix and I’ve become addicted to it pretty fast. *lol* This series is right up my alley! I mean we have San Francisco, the queer community, lots of different representations, humour and a mystery on top of all the crazy family and relationship dynamics! What’s not to love?! Plus I really like Ellen Page and she’s one of the MCs! 😀

A – Author you discovered

Kerri Maniscalco! Her „Stalking Jack the Ripper“ series was all over my feed for months and I finally managed to read the first book! She has a really nice and easy writing style and if Thomas Cresswell isn’t enough reason to read the rest of the series, then I dunno! 😛

S – Song you couldn’t get enough of

Papa Roach – Come Around

I don’t know what it is about this song but I really love it! Whenever it plays on my radio I turn the volume up and sing along with it! XD Guess „stuck at home me“ kind of relates to the text somehow. *lol*

S – Surprise – Something that totally caught you off guard

Well, my sudden addiction to webcomics definitely counts as a surprise! At the beginning of April I kind of fell into the webcomic rabbit hole and I guess I never climbed out of it. *lol* On tapas there are just too many awesome comics and I found quite a few favourites I’ll continue to follow. 😀

Y – Your fave blog post of another blogger

„Don’t Miss This! – How to Travel When You’re Stuck at Home“ @ The Library Lady Travels

I love Geanie’s travel blog and this blog post was amazing! I didn’t know about „Google’s Art and Culture“ website and definitely learned something new by reading her post! 😀 What I loved the most were the „10 Incredible Libraries of the World“! So beautiful! This instantly made me want to tavel to other countries and see them for myself. *lol* (Which sadly isn’t possible right now but that’s another story. XD)

Rankenzeile

What do you think about „SASSY Saturday“? Would you like to join the fun? Did you watch „Tales of the City“ too? What surprised you last month?

Tell me and let me know! 😉

250 Followers Celebration Post!!! Woot! – What should we do to celebrate? =)

Hey there, my lovelies!

I thought that 250 Followers would qualify for an unscheduled blog post! XD I mean, dang! That’s so amazing!!! There are 257 of you out there now and I couldn’t be happier!

(I’m a horrible person though because I didn’t even realize that there are so many of you now….*lol*)

When I wrote down my New Year’s resolutions in January I definitely didn’t expect to hit this number so soon. XD So a huge THANK YOU to everyone who’s following my blog! No matter if you’re already a regular or a newbie I really appreciate your support! ❤

I initially planned to make a Giveaway when I hit that number but I’m not all too convinced this is a good idea right now. Especially not in the times of Covid-19. (I could send the winner the package but I really dunno if it would even get to you in those rather turbulent times.)

This blog is a democracy though (is it really? *lol*) so I decided to give you guys a choice! I came up with three ideas and the one that gets the most likes from you (just say which one you prefer in the comments) will be done! 😉

1.) I’ll try to draw your favourite book character in my own manga style. (Oh gods! It’s been ages I last did something like that…) I’d make a blog post and you’d write your favourites into the comments and then I’d pull 2 (?!) of them out of my bowl and try to draw them? Sounds good? XD

2.) I could make a 250 Followers celebration video and upload it on here? Maybe answer 3 questions in (video)person as well? Okay, that idea isn’t fully developed yet but maybe you have some ideas?! 😛

3.) A book giveaway! I know I said that I don’t think it’s wise to do one in these times but if you really want to go for it and think that the parcel would still be able to get to your place I’d try my best to make it work! (Yes, I love you guys enough to give it a shot and to disinfect everything before I send it to you! 😉 *lol*)

Sooo the choice is up to you! I’ll let you know what it’s going to be as soon as I have all of your answers! =)

Have fun voting! And as always:

Try to stay healthy and safe! Take care! ❤

Totally Didn’t Book Tag

Hey there, my lovelies!

A while back Sahi @ My World of Books did this tag and I found it pretty interesting so I decided that I feel tagged and snatched it for my own blog! 😛 I think this might be kind of a challenge because the questions won’t be easy to answer, I still want to do it though. We all need a challenge every once in a while, right? And before I jump right in: If you don’t know Sahi’s blog already, take a look at it! She’s a great person and her blog has amazing content! 😀 This said, let the fun begin!

1. Totally didn’t need to have a sequel/sequels.

2. Totally didn’t need to have more than one point of view.

13455782

Now that’s a tough question. I usually love books with more POVs so I can’t think of a single book that should have only had one. I can think of one POV I definitely didn’t need though. Adam’s POV in the „Shatter Me“ series. I really dislike his character and I probably should have never read the Novella from his POV. *lol*

3. Totally didn’t need to change cover art through the middle of a series.

English 8835379 vs. German 6325285

I don’t know if that counts but I reread the „Precious Stone Trilogy“ a few weeks ago and this time around I went for the English version. I’ve to admit that I like the German version way better than the cover art of the English books.

4. Totally didn’t need a love triangle.

2767052

Haha! I’m so with Sahi when it comes to this answer! Yes, yes and once again yes! The love triangle in „The Hunger Games“ was totally pointless!

5. Totally didn’t need this book to be included in this series.

8755776

It’s been a while I read this series but I remember thinking that „City of Lost Souls“ was the weakest book in the entire series. The idea was good and some parts of it I actually enjoyed but at the same time I was kind of pissed that my HEA was destroyed and that everything started all over again.

6. Totally didn’t need a cliffhanger.

40165899. sy475

And once again I can only agree with Sahi. The ending of „War Storm“ frustrated the hell out of me too! I just wanted more than that! There were still so many open questions and I didn’t get any answers. Guess I’ll have to read „Broken Throne“ soon! Thanks for the tip! 😀

7. Totally didn’t need to have just one point of view.

16096824

This might be an unpopular opinion but I would have loved to see different POV in the ACOTAR series! I mean we see everything through Feyre’s eyes (okay a little bit from Rhys’s POV too) but since I love all those characters I would have enjoyed to know their thoughts! Especially Lucien’s! I need a Lucien Vanserra POV so badly I can’t even! *lol*

8. Totally didn’t need that much hype.

13335037

And here I go with another unpopular opinion, but seriously why did „Divergent“ get so much hype?! I loved the first book and it was amazing but boy did I hate what Veronica Roth did with the rest of the series. „Insurgent“ wasn’t as good as the first book and don’t even get me started on „Allegiant“. *sighs*

9. Totally didn’t need a relative book reference. (Eg, For example: Hunger Games fan would love Divergent.)

Okay, here comes the moment where I have to point out that Goodreads gives the weirdest recommendations and relative book references! I mean it recently told me I’d enjoy „American Psycho“ because I read Akairya (The Fractured Soul)! Just to explain this: „Akairya“ is a fantasy middle grade book and „American Psycho“ is… well it’s FREAKING „American Psycho“ that’s what it is!! *lol*

10. Totally didn’t deserve my time.

33843362

Oh gods, don’t even get me started! XD I guess the worst book that comes to mind is „Genuine Fraud“ though. It made absolutely no sense and it went exactly nowhere. I enjoyed „We Were Liars“ but „Genuine Fraud“ definitely wasn’t for me!

Rankenzeile

Since I kind of snatched this for my blog I’m not going to tag anyone! Feel free to do the tag if you want to though. =) Just make sure to link back to me so I can read your answers! What did you think about mine? Do you agree or do I actually have quite a lot of unpopular opinions? *lol*

Tell me and let me know! ;P

Explain & Gain

Explain & Gain

Hey there my lovelies!

I’m sure the first question your’re asking yourself now is: „What’s this?“

Well, the answer is pretty simple: This is my new category „Explain & Gain“ in which I’ll try to explain some things I came across while being on wordpress. In other words I’ll try to explain something and hopefully you’ll gain knowledge from it! At least that’s the theory, I guess we’ll see how well it will work in practice. 😛

Still, confused? Okay, let’s use a practical example so it’s easier to follow my weirdness. 😉

Step 1: The problem

Okay here I go: Recently I was tagged by many of my awesome fellow bloggers (thanks a lot btw!! ❤ ) but unfortunately I never got a notification and therefore only found out about being tagged when 1.) I read their blog post, 2.) by chance (which is basically the same as no.1 😛 ) and 3.) … Well, I think I don’t even want to know how many people tagged me and I never found out. *lol*

Step 2: So why the heck didn’t it work?

To tag people in your blog posts might not work for various reasons. Experience taught me that’s mostly one of those two though: Either you’ve only mentioned their name without a link or what happens more often: You linked to their main wordpress page. Yes, you read right. You linked to their homepage. You’d think that would be sufficient enough but nuh uh! WordPress has a completely different logic when it comes to that. Which leads me directly to the next step!

Step 3: How to tag a person in your blog post (so that they actually get a notification)?

This is pretty easy and I’m sure most of you will smack their forehead and say: Gosh!! (or you might use other words but it will still have the same outcome. 😉 ) Okay, are you ready to be enlightend?

You’ve to link to one of their blog posts!

Yes, it’s that simple! 😛 It’s called a „Pingback“ and looks like that:

Pingback.png

And just in case you never tried to put a link into one of your blog posts a step by step explanation for you:

1.) Find the link symbol and click on it: Link symbol.jpg

2.) Copy and use the url of a blog post the person you want to link to wrote. The easiest way is to use one of their most recent blog posts. 😉

url linkback.jpg

Write their name or the name of their blog (or both) in the „Link-Text“ and if you want to make sure that their page opens when you click on it, you also tick that little field saying „open link in a new window / open tab“ (It’s in German in the picture because yeah, I speak German, but I’m sure you get the idea! *lol*)

And then you just press on the little pink field below saying „add link“!

3.) Congrats! You just successfully pinged back to another blogger’s page and tagged them! XD

So that’s it! Wasn’t that hard, right? 😛

Rankenzeile

I might do more of those „Explain & Gain“ posts whenever I notice something that could be usueful knowledge for other bloggers. Was this helpful? Did you already know how to pingback to another blogger’s page? Is there another blogging mystery I might be able to help you with?

Talk to me and let me know!

Sunshine Blogger Award

Hey there my lovelies!

I’m kind of behind on my tags and awards (yes, plural! You guys are so amazing for nominating me!!!) but I’m trying my best to catch up! 😛 Anyway! My lovely friend Sabrina @ Notes From A Paper Plane Nomad nominated me for this award and I humbly accept it! *lol* If you don’t know her page yet you should take a closer look! It’s amazing just like her! 😉

What’s the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to bloggers who are creative, positive, and inspiring. Once nominated, the blogger is required to write a post in which they:

 • Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog.
 • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated them.
 • Nominate 11 other blogs and give them 11 new questions to answer.
 • Notify your nominees and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post.

Sabrina’s Questions:

1. Which book/series have you re-read the most times?

That might sound kinda weird now but if I’m honest it are those two: Harry Potter and wait for it…. Captive Prince! *lol* I think HP appeals to the child in me and makes me nostalgic and Captive Prince is the adult in me that loves court machinations, complex and character driven books and touchy subjects. So you might say they both cater to different needs. 😛

2. Pick ONLY one: hardback, paperback, ebook or audio book!

Always and forever paperback! 😉 I just love to page through a book and my sticky notes come in handy when I read paperbacks.

3. Do you have any blog-related goals/plans for 2020?

Hell, yes! Where to start? *lol* I think my main goals/plans are those three though: 1.) Read the books on My Book List 2020! 2.) Go through with my German speaking Authors Year! 3.) Host my second giveaway! If I hit 250 followers you’re in for a treat! 😉

4. What book wasn’t as good the second time around?

„Throne of Glass“ and I really only mean the first book in the series! I reread it about a year ago and my rating dropped from 5 to 4 paws. I know that’s not much but it just wasn’t as exciting as the first time around and after reading the rest of the series it just couldn’t compete with all the other books! XD

5. What book was even BETTER the second time around?

Funnily enough it’s also a Sarah J. Maas book! *lol* I loved to reread A Court of Mist and Fury! It was so much fun and I noticed so many things I wasn’t aware of when I first read it! Plus all those characters! They gave me life and the feels! ❤

6. If you could swap places with any character who would it be and why?

Oh, wow! That’s a tough one! XD But I think I’d go for Ronan Lynch from The Raven Boys. I just love the friendships in this series and I’m madly and deeply in love with Adam Parrish so that definitely would have it’s perks. Plus, I’m basically Ronan so I wouldn’t have to change and could curse and be myself just like I’m used to. Haha! Also, I could dream things into existence, could have Chainsaw on my shoulder, would be able to visit Cabeswater… seriously what’s not to love?!!

7. What are your favourite books/authors that champion diversity?

Definitely Mackenzi Lee, Alice Oseman, Rainbow Rowell, Casey McQuiston, Leigh Bardugo and Roshani Chokshi! I would have loved to say Becky Albertalli too but unfortunately I always seem to have issues with her books. *lol*

8. What is the most important thing you look for in a book?

Elation! I want a book to sweep me off my feet and I want to feel the need to continue to read on. If a book manages to captivate me it’s always a good book. 🙂

9. Favourite indie (or lesser known) author/book?

Jim Butcher’s „Codex Alera“ series and since I just read it Kerstin Gier’s „Precious Stone Triology“. Also can I say how amazing „The Impossible Boy“ by Anna Martin was? ❤

10. What’s your favourite bookish trope?

I think that might be enemies to lovers! *lol* It never gets old and I love it when they don’t give each other an inch but then fall in love! Haha!

11. What is your favourite book from each genre?

Wow Sabrina! You definitely don’t make it easy for me. 😛 That’s a really tough one but I’ll try my best.

classic: The Picture of Dorian Gray

Sci-Fi: Illuminae

thriller: Angels & Demons

And that’s it! I can’t pick a favourite book from all the other genres because there are way too many amazing books! Don’t force me to pick! Please! *whimpers* *LOL*

I nominate…

My Questions…

 1. What’s your favourite hobby apart from reading?
 2. If you could live in just one bookish universe which one would it be?
 3. With which book character would you love to be besties and why?

How did I start my blog?

A long long time ago there was a little fox that loved to write long-ass reviews. 😛 Okay, okay, I’m supposed to be wiser now so I’ll keep it short and simple! (Who am I kidding? *lol*) Anyway I’ll just write what I wrote the last time so there you go:

You know by now I told my story so often that I think it is going to be one of those “urban legends” that one day will be whispered among other bloggers. *lol* No, I’m just kidding. Seriously, there is nothing special about my story, it’s as ordinary as they come. I always loved reading and enjoyed to talk about books but it wasn’t until I joined goodreads about 2 ½ years ago that I actually started to write about my reading experiences. At first it were pretty short reviews and I had no idea what I was doing but with time they got longer and more elaborate and well, one day one of them (“Six of Crows”) was so detailed that it blew up the word limit on goodreads. This time I’m not kidding. I really couldn’t post it until I shortened it. *lol* So I figured to have my own blog would be a good idea, it took me quite a while until I dared to take that step, though. I wasn’t sure if people would really like to read what I write but the support I got from my readers (can I call them like that?!) was so immense and incredible that I’m still amazed! ❤ Without their encouragement and enthusiasm I probably would have never started my own blog! So thanks to everyone who is reading this now! =))

My Advice:

The last time I did this I was so new to the blogging world that my advice probably wasn’t all too helpful so I’ll hopefully be wiser now? XD

1.) Enjoy what you are doing!!!

After having my own blog for more than 1 1/2 years and actively writing reviews on goodreads for almost 3 this is one of the most important things! I know there is a lot of pressure that comes with blogging regularly but it’s very important that you still have fun! You’re writing reviews because you love to read books and enjoy to write about your reading experiences. Always remember that you’re doing it because it’s your hobby! 😉

2.) Try to keep a healthy balance and dare to say „no“!

As a working parent my reading time is sort of sacred to me, yet there are still days on which I don’t even manage to read a single word. My time to read books is limited and no matter how much I love to read, my family and friends will always come first. So if authors offer me an ARC or a review copy I can’t always say „yes“. At first it was difficult to say „no“ to them because I love books and it was so hard to pass on an opportunity to read one for free, but since I also like to read the books I pick it was necessary to find a healthy reading/blogging balance. Keep in mind that it’s okay if you go out into the world and live! 😉 Don’t have a bad conscience if you have no time to write or read. Your book and your readers will always wait for you! 🙂

I Nominate:

Well, I hope this was sound advice! If not you can blame it all on me! 😛

Fuss, Cuss & Discuss: Age gaps in books & why some people’s reactions confuse & amuse me

Fuss Cuss & Discuss_vers1

Hey there my lovelies!

It’s about time to implement my New Year’s resolutions and to start with my discussion posts! My last one was in September 2019 so shame on me for taking so long! *lol* Anyway, let’s not dwell on the past but rather focus on the future of my „Fuss, Cuss & Discuss“ post. 😉

I’ve been a member on goodreads for about 2 1/2 years now and there’s a topic that always returns and comes up again: Age gaps between book characters! Now the first thing you’ve to know about me is that my hubby and I have an age difference of about 9 years. Neither of us sees this as problematic and in all honesty when you reach a certain age and both of your lives head in the same direction, it actually isn’t an issue anymore.

So let’s explain my stance on age gaps and when they should be considered problematic (well at least in my opinion):

 • 12 year old girl and 16 year old boy: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! That would be so, so, so soooo damn wrong I can’t even!!! They are both at completely different stages of their lives. Their age gap might only be 4 years but at that age this makes all the difference!!!
 • 20 year old girl and 26 year old girl/boy (let’s get a little bit of diversity into this 😉 ): Yes, go for it! They are both adults and they (supposedly) know what they want from life. (I have to mention that in Austria you’re an adult when you’re 18. At that age you’re allowed to drive, to drink and to marry. I’m aware that it’s different in other countries, hence the short digression. XD)
 • 40 year old man and 60 year old woman/man: Well, they are old enough to know that their partner could be their own kid, but if they love each other and want the same thing, who am I to judge?

Well, that’s my opinion about age gaps in a nutshell. Still, in the bookish world there are more interesting things that can happen and it never ceases to amaze me how people think of them. One of the most interesting things are age gaps in YA and fantasy books. Why are they so interesting? Well, because in all honesty the way people react to those age gaps is amusing and sometimes, yes, I admit it, outright hilarious! *lol*

Want an example?

Okay, let’s go with „Throne of Glass“ here because this actually made me smirk when I read it. Warning: This is going to be spoilery so if you didn’t read the „Throne of Glass“ series or „Twilight“ yet, you better don’t continue to read! Fair warning, you still got time to leave this page! 😉

Are you ready?

So , in „Throne of Glass“ we have our MC Celaena Sardothien and at one point in the series we reach a moment where it’s mentioned that her former mentor and King of the Assassins Arobynn Hamel loved her and that she was intrigued by him too. At that moment in the series Celaena is about 17 or 18 and Arobynn is 38? Imagine the reactions of the people who read this! „Ewww“ and „This age gap is nauseous!“ were rather mild reactions. And okay, I admit it, that’s an age gap that wouldn’t be okay for me too, but then you always have to see things from the right perspective because and now comes the part where I couldn’t help but laugh:

People found it completely intolerable that Celaena and Arobynn had feelings for each other, but they were totally okay with the Celaena/Rowan ship! Which gets one big fat *LOL* from me! You wonder why? Well, because dear Prince Rowan Whitethorn might look like a 17 year old teenager but is actually 350+ years old! Funny just because he looks like a 17 year old teen it’s okay for them to be together? Let’s be real here: He’s about 312 years older than Arobynn and about 332 years older than Celaena! So if you ask me that’s a really unacceptable age gap. The about 20 years between Arobynn and Celeana are peanuts in comparison. *lol* Not that I don’t ship them, I’m all for the Celaena/Rowan ship but why do people think to ship them is totally okay and to ship her with Arobynn is wrong? From the age perspective it makes absolutely no sense.

The same thing could be used for „Twilight“ as well. I mean Bella is what? 17? And Edward is 100 years old? If you break it down to the basics Edward is a 100 year old creeper that watches a 17 year old girl while she sleeps! *lol* Yet everyone is riled up about the age gap between Bella and Jacob. Because, OH MY, Jacob is 15 and 2 years younger than Bella! The mere idea is so horrible, I can’t even! (notice the sarcasm in here! 😛 )

You can blame me for shipping Bella with Jacob but quite honestly if it comes to the age difference, those two are harmless in comparison to the Bella/Edward ship! XD Just saying!

And with that I’ve reached the end of my „Fuss, Cuss & Discuss“ post. There are like about a gazillion of other examples I could have used as well, but I’ll just leave it at that. I think after reading those two you already get the idea. 😉

Rankenzeile

So what do you say? Huge age gaps between the MCs of a book: YAY or NAY? Does it depend on the book genre? Would you be okay with a 15 years age gap between a faerie and a human? Would you see it differently if it would be a 15 year difference between the MCs of a contemporary book? Why is it okay in fantasy books? What’s your stance on age gaps in general?

Let’s fuss, cuss and discuss! 😛
