Top Ten Tuesday: New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2021

TTT was created by The Broke and Bookish and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl (click here for upcoming TTT topics!).

Today’s Topic is: : New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2021 (And there were so many I had a tough time to decide for just 10. But oh well, those are the ten that made it into the finale! ;-P)

1.) Brigid Kemmerer – „A Curse So Dark And Lonely“

43204703. sy475

I read this at the beginning of 2021 and I really liked it?! I mean I was no big fan of Rhen, but I liked Harper and I absolutely adored Grey! This was a great retelling and definitely something different. For instance the beast wasn’t the beast right away and our heroine has cerebral palsy. Plus there was a really mean villain that made me so angry! My absolute favourite character was Grey though, so I hope to see more of him in book two! ;-P

2.) Emily Henry – „Beach Read“

43597287. sy475

I remember going into this and expecting a typical romance but in the end this turned out to be so much more than that. I really enjoyed how those two authors got to know each other and I absolutely loved that they got inspired by each other. =) Add a very complicated background story to both MCs and you have a great read!

3.) Lev. A.C Rosen- „Jack of Hearts (and other Parts)“

40402188. sy475

I think I’ll never get tired of speaking about „Jack of Hearts“! This book was great! I loved that Jack was openly gay and I absolutely adored his honest and direct approach when it came to his column. I think the world and especially the teens that live in it need more books like this one. Jack was unapologetic, blunt and always straightforward when he answered the anonymous questions that came his way. XD I swear Jack Rothman is amazing!

4.) Sophie Gonzales & Cale Dietrich – „If This Gets Out“

56347574. sy475

Okay, this was legit one of my favourite books of 2021! I mean this book had everything I love in my books. Band life, the found family trope, strong friendships, a secret and forbidden romance, an adorable m/m ship, lots of angst, self-discovery, a great fandom portrayal and even the dark side of fame. Like seriously, for me this was so perfect! ❤

5.) Kacen Callender – „Felix Ever After“

48849624. sy475

And here comes another one of my favourites of 2021: „Felix Ever After“! This book! I mean THIS book! XD It made me think so much about myself and how I see others, how they see me and how people perceive others and how people want to be seen. Plus, I loved that Felix still questioned his gender and sexuality. I think it’s great if you know exactly who you are and who you want to be, but at the same time it’s also good if you never stop questioning yourself. I swear, I could write an essay about this book and its message but I think I’ll leave it at that. *lol*

6.) Mason Deaver – „I Wish You All The Best“

41473872

Mason Deaver is definitely a new author I discovered last year. I really enjoyed their story and I’m glad there are more and more own voices books out there with non-binary authors that know exactly what they are talking about. =) This book was so soft and I really loved Nathan! Absolutely perfect boyfriend material right there. ;-P He was really one of the most supportive characters I ever saw!

7.) Sylvain Neuvel – „Sleeping Giants“

33950895. sy475

Now this book totally came as a surprise and when I picked it up I had no idea I’d enjoy it so much. Actually I was pretty sceptical at first, because when I read about the massive giant hand in the earth I was basically like: WTF?! *lol* If you allow yourself to jump into the story you won’t regret it though. I had a lof of fun reading this and I’m very curious where the second book will go.

8.) Philip Reeve – „Railhead“

31119095. sy475

And here comes another surprise! I mean I shouldn’t have been surprised that I enjoyed this so much because it’s one of my Yoongi’s favourite book series and if I trust anyone with my bookish taste, then it’s the Yoongi to my V. *lol* Still, the idea of sentient locomotives and worm holes that connect different worlds sounded super weird and kinda alien to me. Well, until I started to get into the story and began to love this world! XD Honestly, I can’t wait to pick up book two.

9.) Stephanie Garber – „Caraval“

27883214

This book had nothing in common with „The Night Circus“ and this was good the way it was, because I really enjoyed to read „Caraval“! I don’t understand all the reviews that compare it to „The Night Circus“ because quite honestly „Caraval“ isn’t even a circus but rather a show and some sort of interactive game and there is a huge difference between those two. At least if you ask me. XD This said I really liked to explore this world alongside Scarlet, but I’m sure book two with Tella is going to be even more interesting. ;-P

10.) Silvia Moreno-Garcia – „Mexican Gothic“

53152636. sy475

I so rarely read in the genre of horror but „Mexican Gothic“ was right up my alley! I loved this dark and twisted tale about an old family in an even older house that falls apart at the seams. Add lots of fog, a cemetery next to the house and heavy nightmares with strange happenings and you have the perfect recipe for a horror book. *lol* I’ll definitely pick up Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s next book too. 😉

So what about you? Which new authors did you discover last year and do we have some in common? Did you already read some of the new authors I discovered and if yes, can you recommend me some of their other books? (I’ll take all the recs I can get! XD) Was there a new author that failed to convince you to buy more of their books? *lol*

Talk to me and let me know!

December Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I’m really trying to be positive now that a new year has just begun so I’ll say it with all the joy and enthusiasm I can muster: December sucked. *lol* Big time! XD If I thought I wasn’t reading a lot in November, I’m almost ashamed of how little I read in December. I actually only manged to read two books and the only reason why „The Lost Apothecary“ fell into this month too was the fact that I FORGOT to add it to my November Wrap Up. Which says enough about the state I was in those last couple of months. *lol*

Like seriously! How could I forget to add it to my Wrap Up? Anyway I said I’d have a positive attitude in 2022 and I’ll try my best! So here I go! I’m typing this after spending two weeks in the blissful bubble named „home“ and I regret nothing! I only went out to go grocery shopping and to go for walks and I met my family and friends three times in total. I spent Christmas with my family, my sister’s family and my parents. Then I visited my aunts and uncle on Silvester and I met one of my besties. That’s it. (Mind you, technically speaking my country is still in some sort of lockdown because of Omicron) So if you’re asking yourself what I did on all those other days:

I cleaned my flat, I played with my kid, I did the laundry, I cooked for my family, I took naps… an indecent amount of them tbh but I was so exhausted I just needed them, I watched Netflix, I listened to BTS and watched some of their videos, I READ (Yes, I actually managed to finish two books I had on my „currently reading“ since August 2021), I edited videos, I wrote blog posts and reviews, I came up with about a gazillion ideas that need to be turned into practice and I just unwound from all the stress I had those last couple of months. Plus I started to do something against my allergies and asthma and I hope the therapy will work. In short: I enjoyed my vacation and I hope this energy will last until July because it will be the next time I can go on vacation.

So on that happy note let’s jump right into my monthly Wrap Up, shall we?! XD

Books read: 3 (3 books & 0 webcomic, 3 books… that’s gotta be the worst reading month ever)

Pages read: 915 (It was so bad I didn’t even manage to read 1.000 pages. *lol*)

Average rating: 3,67 (It seems like my December was pretty average as well.)

Books that were on my reading list: 0 ( 0 from 2019, 0 from 2020 and 0 from 2021. Umm yeah… what can I say? *lol* Mood reading is a thing? XD)

December Reads:

56394775    48731486    53152636. sy475

The Lost Apothecary: 4 Pfoten

I really enjoyed reading this book and even thought the story was pretty simple I still wanted to know what would happen next. Also this book got me in a moral dilemma because on the one hand I pulled for the apothecary but on the other hand I couldn’t condone her actions. *lol* Tbh I still don’t know how I feel about the apothecary but I think that’s exactly why this book stuck with me and was so good to read. Also the cover!!! Look at this gorgeous cover. ❤

The Gravity of Us: 3 Pfoten

When I finished the book I was certain it would be a four paws read but then I had time to think about it and in the end it turned out to be 3. Don’t get me wrong, this book was great and had a lot of things I loved to read about: science, the history of space travel and social media and media in general. There were some things that felt slightly off though and they are the reason for my 3 paws rating. If you know me, you know that 3 paws is still a great rating and only means I had some issues with the book. This said I’m definitely going to read Phil Stampers next story! =)

Mexican Gothic: 4 Pfoten

I’m so glad I finally managed to read this! „Mexican Gothic“ was a book that had me intrigued from the moment I picked it up and I really loved the atmosphere in this book. I mean High Place is always surrounded by fog, stands next to a cemetery and the house is old and falling apart. Not to mention the weird Doyle family that inhabits it and is pretty hostile towards our MC. (And that is the understatement of the century. *lol*) So yeah, if you’re a scaredy fox like me I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

How was your December? Did you read many books and were you more successful at finishing them than I was? *lol*  Which books did you read and did you enjoy them? Do we have some in common? How were your Christmas holidays? Were you as asocial as I was? (I don’t regret it, for once I really needed time for myself and away from others) Did you get books for Christmas and if yes which ones?

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

And as always take care and stay healthy and safe!

Top 15 of my bookish 2021 – The Awesome, The Meagre & The Series + Book Recs from You?!

Hey there my lovelies!

2021 is over and 2022 will hopefully turn out to be better than the last year! I really hope your 2022 started well and that you’re having a good time already. =) This said I want to begin the new year with a look at the old one. So since this became some sort of blog tradition I decided that I’d write another one of my „The Awesome, The Meagre & The Series“ blog posts! My initial goal for this year was to read 45 books and even though I managed to hit that number in October I still had a very though time to finish my challenge because I was in the worst reading slump ever. It started in August and stuck with me until December. (If you compare the number of books I read from January – June: 32 with the books I read from July – December: 25 you can see how bad it actually was.) I know 7 books doesn’t look like much but considering I usually read 4 – 5 books a month this was 1,5 months worth of reading for me. XD

Anyway! I’m out of my slump now and I hope it stays that way! *lol* Let’s do this and go for the traditional summary of my reading year 2021! Read about „The Awesome, The Meagre & The Series“! 😛

I hope you’ll enjoy it!

The Awesome:

– Felix Ever After

55811021. sy475

This book had me curious for ages and everyone who read it was raving about it so of course I couldn’t resist to read it as well. Especially not when I found it sitting on the shelf of my library. I mean alone the cover!! And let me tell you: It was really as good as everyone claimed it would be! I loved to read „Felix Ever After“ and it’s one of those books that truly stayed with me because it made me think about a lot of things. For instance about how others perceive me, how I see myself, how I want to be seen. I just loved that about it! A great book and a thought-provoking one at that. XD

If This Gets Out

56347574. sy475

I was lucky enough to get an ARC for this and I’m so happy I was allowed to dive into „If This Gets Out“! This book had everything I love in my books: A LGBTQ+ rep, music, band life, the best-friends-to-lovers trope with a dash of forbidden love, found family and to top it all off even a tour/road trip element. *lol* Yes, I’m gonna be honest here: Ruben and Zach were so frustrating sometimes but we love to suffer, right? XD

House of Earth and Blood:

46045411. sy475

This book was a masterpiece and I mean it! I always loved Sarah J. Maas’s books and I’m a huge fan of her, but with this one… well she knocked it out of the park! ❤ I LOVED this book so much and even though it took me quite a while to get into the story because there were so many details I needed to know in order to move on, I ultimately ended up adoring this book. I have no idea how Sarah wants to top this because this was only book one in a series, but whatever she’ll come up with next: I’m game! 😉

The Raven King:

18743272

Okay, I gotta be honest here: My heart is still a bleeding and raw mess after reading „The Raven King“. This book was… I have no words. It killed me… What Andrew and Neil go through in this second installment is not… I just want to hug my babies and hide them from the cruel world they live in. GAH!! I have no idea how I’m going to survive the last book but I’m so going to read it because I want to know what happens with my Foxes. *mental breakdown*

 I Was Born for This

36536433. sy475

I love Alice Oseman’s books and I love books that have to do with bands, fandoms and music so this was basically everything I ever wanted. Not to mention that it also had LGBTQ+ reps because we’re talking about an Alice Oseman book here. 😉 In short: I was a happy camper and I gobbled this up like nobody’s business. *lol* So good and definitely one of my favourite Oseman books. 😀

The Meagre:

Darkdawn:

52783987. sy475

Sooo…. while I gave this book four paws in total and still enjoyed it somehow it definitely was my least favourite book of the series. We had a specific theme in „Nevernight“, we had a theme in „Godsgrave“ but „Darkdawn“!? Well, if you ask me it was all over the place and the ending was kind of anticlimactic. At least for me it was. Plus even though I’m a LGBTQ+ shipper all the way, I just couldn’t ship THAT ship. I love Mia but I didn’t love… her love interest and my Yoongi and I were constantly rolling our eyes. Nope, that didn’t work for me… at all. We’re probably in the minority here but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

– Elusion by Zoe Parker:

36112864. sy475

I gave this book three paws and it definitely was one of the weirdest books I ever read. I mean at first we have darkness, abuse, torture and hopelessness, lather, rinse, repeat. Over and over again I might add and then all of a sudden at around half of the book everything changed so drastically that it felt like I was reading an entirely different book. And I just couldn’t with that… so yeah.

– The Heir by Kiera Cass:

24965992

Heaven save me from spoiled brats that are supposed to inherit a throne! *lol* No, seriously! I just couldn’t stand Eadlyn… at all. She was such an dislikable character and to say it with one of my bestie’s words: „Eadlyn is everything America was not.“ And we mean that in a bad way. 😉 The boys in the book were nice (okay, most of them were) but Eadlyn. Nope. Also the fact that she made a 180 degree character turn in the second installment was so unbelievable that I got a rash from fanserviceritis. Conclusion: Definitely not for me.

– Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard:

53332023. sy475

This book was okay and I think that’s exactly my problem. About half of the stories in here I didn’t need to read because I already read the short stories when they came out with the books and the other half of new stories wasn’t really doing it for me. „World Behind“ and „Fire Light“ were the two short stories I liked the most, but the rest of the book wasn’t all too engaging. Also: You would have thought that Victoria would finally give us some background stoy on Maven and Thomas or even somthing about Maven’s youth, but she didn’t and I’m… disappointed.

– Superman:

36531590. sy475

I mean this wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. I read all the previous DC Icons books and I’ve to say that this was the weakest in the entire series so far. Maybe it’s because Superman is too perfect and good? *lol* I like my superheroes with eges. XD

The Series:

– The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan:

  18694012

I just love Uncle Rick’s books! ❤ He writes the best adventure stories ever and „The Mark of Athena“ was no exception to the rule. I actually wanted to finish „The Heroes of Olympus“ series in 2021 but then my reading slump hit and I saved it for 2022. There are only two books left so I’m sure I will be able to finish it this year. I guess after that „The Kane Chronicles“ will be up next. =)

– The Folk of the Air by Holly Black:

  43393863. sy475      26032912. sy475

I absolutely loved „The Cruel Prince“ and „The Wicked King“. Those two books were amazing and for someone like me who loves faeries and court intrigues this was perfect. Also Cardan and Jude! I mean honestly, do I have to say more about that love-hate relationship? *lol* As for „The Queen of Nothing“ it was good but not as good as the former books. The ending was kinda weird as well but also somehow fitting for „faerie tales“?!

– Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel:

33950895. sy475

Now this series came as a total surprise! I didn’t expect to like it so much and everyone who saw my TBR video about it knows that I was very skeptical about the „mysterious giant hand“. *lol* I stand corrected though because this was great! Truth be told, I don’t understand why not more people rave about this! I mean if you loved „Illuminae“ I’m sure you’ll love this one as well.

– The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer:

18139931. sy475      21469054. sy475

I actually managed to continue with this series in 2021 and read „Scarlet“ and „Cress“! Of course I loved them both and I have such a soft spot for Cress. She’s really amazing and I just want to cuddle and hug her. Same goes for Kai! Love that man to bits and pieces! ❤ Still, the ending of „Cress“ had me so worried about all those beloved characters and I hope they will be fine when I read „Winter“ this year. I’m planning to finish the series in 2022 so you can watch out for my review of the last book. 😉

Railhead by Philip Reeve:

31119095. sy475

This series is very beloved by the Yoongi to my V and I got very curious about it. Needless to say I grabbed it off the shelf as soon as I saw it at my library. *lol* And of course I loved it when I read it because my Yoongi has impeccable taste when it comes to books! ❤ We also share brain cells so that might be another reason why I knew that I’d enjoy it. XD Anyway! This was great! I loved the idea of sentient locos, space travel through wormholes and of motoriks. I’ll definitely make sure to pick up book two soon.

Rankenzeile

So this was my year 2021 in 15 books! How was your 2021? Was it a good reading year for you? Did you manage to read all the books you wanted to read? Or did you fall into a huge reading slump as well? Are there some books you didn’t manage to read in 2021 and took into 2022?  Let me know in the comments! 😉

And because this has become a tradition too: Just like in the years before I want to give you a chance to throw in some of your book recommendations for My Book List 2022! My goal is to read 45 books in 2022 and the last 5 spots are up to you! Just write me your book recs in the comments and I’ll throw them in a bowl and pull out 5 of them! 😉 (I guess this year I’ll even make a video about it. I mean what is my BookTube for?! XD)

This said I wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR and I hope that your 2021 will be amazing and way better than 2021 was! ❤ I mean it gotta be better, right?! Right? *lol* And because it’s so important these days: Aside from happines, success, contentment, luck and lots of love I also wish you good health!

Please take care an stay healthy and safe!

Achievements of 2021 & My bookish New Year’s resolutions for 2022

Hey there, my lovelies!

Soon a new year is about to start and since it’s basically a tradition now I thought it would be good to take a closer look at my achievements of 2021. It’s always nice to take a closer look at what I wanted to achieve at the beginning of the year and what I actually achieved during it. I’m pretty certain most of my goals went right out of the window once again because Covid-19 still kept us busy and the stress I had at work got me into a big reading slump that lasted for almost 6 months. >_< But maybe, just maybe, I actually managed to reach at least some of my goals? XD Anyway, let’s find out and compare notes so I can go right into the next year with a super clean slate. Also it’s always good to remember and to celebrate what we achieved, especially in 2021. I need a positive outlook into the next year, because I’m sure it will be better! ;-P (It just has to be!!!)

This said 2021 was: Horrible! *lol* To sum it up with just one word. I swear 2021 cost me quite a lot of nerves and produced a couple of new grey hairs and I realized a lot of things about myself and my life. The only person who can change anything about it is me though so I’m determined to make some changes. I want to be happy again and I realized that there were a lot of things that made me unhappy last year. Due to that it feels like I haven’t been happy for a long time and I think I deserve to be happy. We all do! So 2022 here I come! Things will change because they need to!

So without further ado let’s go right to the awesome achievements and the good things that happened to me in 2021:

–  I recently celebrated my third year of blogging and it’s been one hell of a freaky ride so far! *lol* I love to have my personal space in that huge place we call the internet and l’m very glad I managed to keep my baby alive. I need my blog because I can be creative on here and because I can be myself. =) To have a space to call your own is amazing and I really want to be more active once again. In 2021 it felt like I was stumbling from one blog post to the next and I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to plan ahead and give you the content you deserve. So I’ll do better next year. I promise! ❤

– Despite my struggle to keep my blog running I still managed to be somewhat consistent and continued to write 2 blog posts a week. And yes, that IS an achievement. Some weeks (when I did  a TTT topic) I even accomplished to post thrice and I’m glad I was able to be a part of the blogging community. 😉 I didn’t do a lot of blog hopping due to time issues but I definitely want to do more of it next year. Your posts deserve to be read and I’m sorry I was such a bad friend.

– I managed not to get another gastritis!? *lol* Yes, that’s actually an achievement for me. Work and life in general had me so stressed out that I almost got one before Christmas. (Which would have sucked because all that good food!!! XD) Considering the impossibility of going for a healthy diet it’s no surprise my stomach revolted though. I mean I commute to work 4 days a week and get up at 5 a.m., I can’t eat in the train because FFP2 masks, so I only eat breakfast at work and once I get home after picking my kid up from kindergarten. Which is about 3:30 p.m. So one goal for 2022 is definitely to eat healthy and to take more care of myself.

– I read 57 books in 2021 (so far, I still have a couple of days left ;-P ) and was able to finish my goodreads challenge. I initially set it on 45 books and despite my horrible reading slump I still managed to exceed it. ❤ I count that as a big achievement but I still hope that I’ll be able to read more next year. *lol* I don’t feel like myself when I’m not reading. XD

– I went for the second round of my own tag – The LGBTQ+ Rep Book Tag (Original!) and I did my SASSY Saturday blog meme each and every single month! I just love to do that one because it’s nice to talk about other things than books every once in a while! It’s always good to talk about things that excite you. 😉

– I continued to write! I might not have gone for a lot of rp-posts (I’m so sorry!! T_T ) but I still wrote reviews and poetry. And I even started to write the prologue for a book idea that has been spinning in my head for months. 😀 I don’t know if I’ll ever finish this story, but I definitely want to try! Maybe it will become a book one day… who knows? XD

– The publishing house Simon & Schuster asked me if they could use a quote of my review of „Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe“ for their mailing box to promote the second book. Which was such an honour! Of course I said YES immediately! Naive me only asked to see a picture of the finished product but the publisher asked me for my address and even sent the entire box my way! Including book one and two!! If you ever wanted to see me freak out you can watch my Unboxing video here: ARC Unboxing – Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World!  I’m still so happy about this I could cry! T_T

– I finally had the guts to start my own BookTube Channel and Instagram! (thesassylibraryfox3) 😉 And it’s going great! =)) I never thought I’d have so much fun creating my own video content and to edit it but I do?! It’s one of the few things that actually brought me a lot of joy in 2021 and I definitely want to continue with it. I hope even more people will join me on this freaky ride because I’m having the time of my life on BookTube! *lol* ❤ As for Instagram. So far I only posted my photography on there but I think I might go for a couple of Bookstagram pictures too. I want it to be a mixture of life, photography, Bookstagram and whatever else I can think of. I don’t want to commit myself to just one thing because I’m too multifaceted for that. XD Do what you want with that statement. *lol*

– I reached the glorious number of 400 followers on my blog and I couldn’t be more happy. I’m so thankful for all your support and for everyone who still bothers to read my blog posts. You have no idea how much this means to me! ❤ Also, hello and welcome to everyone who clicked that follow button! I’m glad you became part of my „kits“ and I promise I’ll try my best to keep it interesting. 😀

– I joined NetGalley in 2020 and in 2021 I actually managed to get approved for some of the ARCs I requested! XD I know that might sound like a small achievement but believe me for an international book blogger and BookTuber it’s not. So there’s that! 😉

My bookish New Year’s resolutions for 2021 vs. what actually happened and what is hopefully going to happen in 2022:

– Don’t read more than 5 books at the same time! (Well, I think it’s safe to say that I failed terribly at following this rule. Most of the time I had 7 books on my „currently read“, because stupid me thought that to have a big variety would get me out of my reading slump. Haha! I couldn’t have been more wrong. Kits, whatever you do, don’t start to read a gazillion books when you’re already in a slump. It won’t help. Lesson learned. Let’s move on. XD)

– Don’t add more than 275 books to my TBR pile. (Okay, I’m such a fail! *lol* There are 296 books on my TBR right now. And I didn’t just fail to get the number down to 275 I also added a lot of books to it so no wonder I failed! >_< I think for 2022 I’ll just try to get it down to 290? Is that a realistic goal? Yep, I think I can do that. =)

– Read the books I already own!! (Actually I was pretty good at that one. I read almost all of the physical copies on my shelves and there aren’t a lot of books left I haven’t read. As for my e-reader… umm yeah… that’s an entirely different story for another day. ;-P )

– Don’t borrow more than 15 books at the same time from my library! Never change a running system! XD I was right to keep to this number because at the moment it are 16! And this even though there was a lockdown and I was tempted to borrow more books than usual.  Let’s keep that number for 2022 as well. 😉

– Stick to My Book List 2021 and finish My Book List 2020My Book List 2019! Umm yeah…  I can only repeat myself here: This wasn’t happening. At all! XD Like seriously, what did I even think? Haha! I still didn’t manage to finish My Book List 2019 and didn’t even get close to finishing my 2020 list, let alone to finish My Book List 2021. >_< Still, I know 2022 is going to be the year in which I finally finish my 2019 list! I know I can do it! I got this! I repeat, I got this! *lol* (Or I’m just delul. Haha!)

– I voved improvement and said I would continue with my „Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs blog meme but that didn’t really happen. I think I only did it twice? Why am I like that? T_T *lol* No wonder my TBR grew again! In my defence I was super consistent with my SASSY Saturday though! I did one every month and it was fun to talk about other things than books as well. So for 2022 I’ll definitely keep it and will try to throw in a couple of „Hugs’n’Kisses“ posts too. Wish me luck! I’ll need it. Haha!

– I said I’d try to create more of my own book tags and …. I didn’t. *lol* I went for volume two of my The LGBTQ+ Rep Book Tag (Original!) though and it was fun to see how many new LGBTQ+ books I read during just a year. Still, I’ve a lot of ideas for new tags and I hope I’ll be able to create some of them in 2022. I just need time. Ha! Don’t we all? T_T (My original BTS Book Tag is going to happen no matter what though! I just need to do that one! It’s been on my mind for ages. 😀 )

– Get 400 followers on my blog! Okay my current number is 465 and I have no idea how that happened but obviously I reached that goal? Not that I’m going to complain! *lol* Quite the contrary! Thank you for joining me on this fun ride! 😉 To all of you who wondered if I fainted when I reached my goal of 400: The answer to that would be „yes!“. For me to reach 400 followers is such a milestone becaue when I started with my blog every blogger that had more than 400 followers was my heroine/hero and I was in awe of such a huge following. (Tbh I still am. I mean woah there are 465 of you out there reading my blog posts… T_T) Let’s not think too much about it or I’m gonna cry for real. ❤ I think in 2022 I want to make it to 500. I know it might be impertinent to hope for even more, but I’m a very driven person and you always should have a goal in life.

– Reorganize my physical bookshelves. I did that! YESH! Finally something I did! Haha! Something tells me I might have to reorganize it soon though. There are a couple of books I want to get rid off and others I want to add, plus I think I could use even more space in my shelves if I pile books on top? Ohh this is going to be fun. *lol*

– Start an Instagram and make a short video. Haha! OMG! I think I kinda exceeded my own expectations on that one. XD I created my own Instagram account (thesassylibaryfox3) in December (At least I think it was only a couple of weeks ago?! TMI: I joined the day BTS joined with their private accounts. *lol*) and I started my own BookTube channel  in February 2021. So umm yep, that was definitely more than I ever expected to go for. Haha! If you have Instagram or BookTube let me know! I’d love to follow your acounts! 😉

– Relocate some of my longer reviews from goodreads to my blog. I definitely did that! 😀 Every time I went for a TTT blog post I posted thrice a week and got another one of my old reviews on my blog. So I guess we can put a checkmark on this. 🙂 And because I wrote so many reviews I’ll continue to transfer them to my blog in 2022.

– I hoped to go for a reading theme in 2022 but considering the current Covid situation I doubt I’ll go for one. I just want to read the books I want to read and follow my instincts. I WILL host a Readalong on my BookTube, Blog and Instagram though so watch out for that one! The more the merrier! ;-P

Rankenzeile

So if you read all this you get a medal from me! ;-P I know this was super long so I’m very thankful if you actually read this post until now! 2021 felt like it was over in the blink of an eye and it was pobably one of the fastes years ever. At least for me it felt that way.  XD How was your 2021? Did you follow your TBR or did you become a mood reader? Which goals did you set yourself and were you able to accomplish them? What got you through this second year of the pandemic? (Not gonna lie. My formular to get through 2021 consisted of watching k-dramas on Netflix, listening to and watching BTS dance, lots of Netflix & Chill ice cream when I had an especially bad day *lol*, reading and dancing my heart out whenever I could and of talking with my besties for hours.) How did you cope with 2021?

Talk to me and let me know!

And as always try to stay healthy and safe!

October Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Sooo … my October was. Well, pretty unproductive when it comes to reading books. =( I really wanted to read a lot of spooky books in October but in the end I didn’t even manage to read those that were on my TBR. XD This was partly because real life kicked my butt and also partly because my library only got the book I preordered at the ending of October and therefore I was unable to actually read it during the month. >_<

As for real life kicking my butt: My October was definitely quite something. It started with my kid being in quarantine because she had contact with another kid that was tested positive with Covid, continued with a very dear and close family member that has severe health troubles now, went to my kid getting a really bad infection that caused her to have a fever for 5 days and ultimately ended with my flat having mould on the ceiling because we have leaky windows. And if you think that’s all… nope. The month ended with mentioned dear family member in hospital so yeah…

October has been a bitch and I’m really, really tired. T_T I just hope November will be a better month and that I will manage to get a grip on some of those troubles so that I can finally read some books again. And because of this disaster of a month I’m actually typing this in the middle of the night because due to everything that’s been happening I’m behind on my blogging and booktubing schedule. XD

But oh well, enough of my horrible month, let’s get to the good part because I somehow still managed to read four books and that’s something nice, right?

Books read: 4 (4 books & 0 webcomic, I just read four books… I can’t even! V, what’s wrong with you?? *lol*)

Pages read: 1.640 (Weirdly enough those four books had a lot of pages?)

Average rating: 4,00 (On point. I think I rarely had this but this time around they were all 4 paws reads. )

Books that were on my reading list: 0 ( 0 from 2019, 1 from 2020 and 2 from 2021. I actually wasn’t all too bad at keeping to my TBR. Believe me, no one is more shocked about that than I am. *lol* O_o)

October Reads:

31119095. sy475      26236443. sx318       55820574. sy475

Railhead: 4 Pfoten

The Yoongi to my V loves this series so much and has been raving about it for quite a while. (I guess that’s the understatement of the century but never mind. *lol*) So I couldn’t help but get curious about „Railhead“ when I found it in the shelf of my library. And now after reading it I can say: It IS a great book and I’m so ready to tackle the second one because I really need more of this amazing world and the unique locos. This book was definitely something new and I absolutely loved the sci-fi vibes! XD

A Gathering of Shadows: 4 Pfoten

This was already book two in the „Shades of Magic“ series and it was good! Maybe not as great as the first book but it was still quite something and I enjoyed to be back in this world. The four different Londons will never get old and I really love Kell, Lila and Rhy. The plotline was interesting but for some reasons it gave me „Godsgrave“ vibes and that’s probably why „A Gathering of Shadows“ didn’t turn out to be a 5 paws read. I guess I’ll have to think about it and write an elaborate review, so stay tuned. 😉

My Dark Vanessa: 4 Pfoten

So this was a pretty dark book and very disturbing and revolting. And for all of you who don’t know what „My Dark Vanessa“ is about: Well, it’s basically about a 15 year old girl that starts an affair with her teacher. So yeah, pretty dark stuff and a very heavy topic. I have some really mixed feelings about this and can’t put them into a couple of words so I guess I better make sure to get up my review of it soon. To say it in short: I felt and still feel very conflicted about it. >_<

Ninth House: 4 Pfoten

As it seems October was my „dark“ month because „Ninth House“ most definitely was a book that was outside of my comfort zone too. I’ve never read in the genre of „dark academia“ before but I gotta admit that it was very intriguing. I really enjoyed the secret society vibe and the magic that was such an integral part of the storyline. The ending of the book made me want to read the sequel right away, but as it seems I will have to be patient because it’s not even out yet. *lol*

Rankenzeile

How was your October? Did you read more books than I did and if yes which ones did you read? Has real life kept you busy too?! (I genuinely hope your October was way better than mine. XD) Also did you already read any of the books I mentioned and if yes did you enjoy them? Have you ever read in the genre of „dark academia“ and do you have any recommendations for me?

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

September Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

So for some reason my Wrap-Up never got posted on Wednesday. At least it never showed to others, only to me. Maybe it was a glitch on WordPress? Idk! I’m giving it a second try. Let’s see if it will work this time around.

Where to start? Well, I suppose September was a slightly better reading month than August. At least I managed to read one book more and I count this as an achievement. XD As for the rest of my September: I have no idea where it went. I had a week off in the middle of the month and wanted to catch up on my reading and blogging and booktubing (is that even a word?! *lol*) but eventually ended up doing a little bit of housework?! *lol*

Like I wanted to do a lot of things and even had a To-Do list and some of those things were housework and things that needed to be done for ages and I just never had the time to do them. And others like reading and blogging etc. should have been the counterweight and something I could do for myself but in the end my To-Do list was too long. So long story short: I did about half of the things on my list and then it was Thursday already and I decided that I would just drop the list and do what I felt like doing. Because quite honestly time is precious and you really should do the things YOU want to do once you actually have time to do them. XD

So basically I had plans and only managed to go for half of them because I just didn’t feel like doing the rest. That’s my chaotic energy right there and I’m not ashamed. *lol* Other than that work and my family kept me pretty busy so there was actually never a dull moment during the entire month. Which is probably the reason why I can’t think of anything else I did. I was just working, taking care of my kid, doing housework, cramming in a couple of pages every day and well, that’s it! *lol*

And before I continue to write unimportant TMI I’ll just head to my Wrap-Up! ;-P

Books read: 5 (5 books & 0 webcomic, I’m glad I managed to read more again and that I enjoyed all of those books. )

Pages read: 2.229 (Guess HP kinda boosted the page count. *lol*)

Average rating: 4,1 (Lots of great books this month so the rating was rather high!)

Books that were on my reading list:  ( 0 from 2019, 0 from 2020 and 1 from 2021. So yeah, I sucked at keeping to my TBR. What can I say? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

September Reads:

22844196. sy475     30060836    40505329

8591107    43892137. sy475

Harry Potter 5: 4 Pfoten,5

Going into this I was kinda worried I might not like it as much as I did when I was a teen, but I shouldn’t have worried. Of course this was a 4,5 paws read. I mean I still don’t like the movie but the book is actually great and gives a lot of additional info that is important for the rest of the series. It’s kinda sad the movie couldn’t convey all the important parts of this book, but well that’s why reading books will always be better for me. XD

The Crown: 3 Pfoten,5

I finally finished this series but I’ve to say that I liked the original trilogy more than the last two books. I really disliked Eadlyn in „The Heir“ an the only reason I liked her in „The Crown“ was that her character made a 180 degree turn. *lol* So yeah, I wasn’t all too happy about the change of her character (especially because it was so obvious!!) but I liked the boys and despite everything I was through this in no time. *lol*

Let’s Talk About Love:4 Pfoten

Finally a book with an aro/ace MC and I really loved it! Alice and Takumi were just too cute and I absolutely adored their conversations. ❤ I had a lot of thoughts about „Let’s Talk About Love“ and wrote them all into a full review so if you want to read it you can do it: here! I wasn’t exactly Feenie’s biggest fan but *lol* you can read the reasons for that in my review! ;-P

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer: 4 Pfoten

This book was full of sterotypes and YA tropes but it worked somehow because it kind of made fun of them? *lol* Also the idea and concept of „Mara Dyer“ was something different and I really enjoyed the mystery element. Not to mention Mara’s unreliable narrative! XD And the ending? Wow! Let’s just say I’m very curious about book two now!

Clap When You Land: 4 Pfoten

This was such a beautiful book! I was sceptical at first because I wasn’t all too sure about the writing style but damn this was good! The entire story read like poetry and I loved every second of it. Acevedo did such a brilliant job at conveying the feelings of grief, being stuck and all the mixed emotions the two girls had about their father. This was… BEAUTIFUL and painful and all sorts of confusing and I loved it! Enough said! ❤

Rankenzeile

How was your September? Did you read many books last month and if yes, which ones? Are you bad at keeping to „To-Do“ lists too and do we share this chaotic energy?! XD Also did you already read the books I read and if yes, did you enjoy them as well? Did you have troubles to post your blog posts as well or was I the only one with that particular glitch?

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

And as always take care and stay healthy and safe!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Fall 2021 To-read List

TTT was created by The Broke and Bookish and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl (click here for upcoming TTT topics!).

Today’s Topic is: : Books on My Fall 2021 To-read List

1.) „Felix Ever After“ by Kacen Callender

48849624. sy475

I put „Felix Ever After“ on my September TBR and I intend to start it next week. I’ve been looking forward to read this for ages and I’m so glad my library had it in its shelves! It’s one of the few books I know about that actually have a transgender MC so I’m very excited to read Felix’s story. Also I’m absolutley in love with the cover! It’s so lively and realistically unapologetic!

2.) „Ninth House“ by Leigh Bardugo

52092876. sx318 sy475

To be honest I started this yesterday and I’m soo ready to read „Ninth House“! I’ve never read dark academia before and I heard that a lot of people would place this book in the genre. So far I’ve loved every book I read from Leigh so I’m pretty certain I’ll enjoy this one as well. It might be darker than the others but I’m definitely ready to explore this darker side of Leigh’s writing! 😉

3.) „Railhead“ by Philip Reeve

23532981

The Yoongi to my V spoke so much about this series that I couldn’t help but get curious about it. So when I recently discovered that my library actually has „Railhead“ I just couldn’t resist to borrow it. *lol* I’m sure Sabrina waited for me to read this ever since I spoke about it in my last library haul video on my BookTube channel! So yep, it’s autumn and I’m finally going to tackle this. XD

4.) „Rebel“ by Marie Lu

42121526

So I recently finished to read the Legend trilogy! And after THAT kind of ending I knew I couldn’t let it stand like that! I mean ARGHAADKLFASFJSAKDJS! Marie Lu always kills me with her endings and I just needed more after the finale of „Champion“. Thankfully I stumbled upon this in my library and I have every intention to read it and to hopefully get an ending I can live with. *lol*

5.) „The Gravity of Us“ by Phil Stamper

44281034

„The Gravity of Us“ has been on my radar for quite a while and the idea of a LGBTQ+ book that also tackles the topic of spacetravel is just too intriguing to let it go unnoticed! XD I already love the concept of this and I’m very curious how this is going to play out. Guess I’ll find out this autumn! *lol*

6.) „My Dark Vanessa“ by Kate Elizabeth Russell

55820574. sy475

Now here’s a book that doesn’t only have an intriguing topic but also a very serious one and I’m sure to read this will be tough. Still, I really want to know what’s all the fuss about. A lot of people said that it wasn’t their cup of tea and others said that „My Dark Vanessa“ was hard to read but that the way the story was told is brilliant. So yeah, the controversial opinions about it made me curious which caused this to land on my TBR. You know I can’t resist controversial books. *lol*

7.) „The Guest List“ by Lucy Foley

51933429

I really don’t know much about this book except of that it plays on an island and that it’s about a wedding. Oh yes, and that it is a mystery thriller. XD So I guess it’s fair to say that I know next to nothing about „The Guest List“. It was a goodreads choice winner of 2020 though and lots of people spoke about it back then. For me that’s enough reason to give it a try as a Halloween read! 😉

8.) „Mexican Gothic“ by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

53152636. sy475

And here comes my second Halloween read for this year. This entire book gives me a haunted house and cursed family vibe and I don’t know if you already know this about me, but I LOVE vibes like that! *lol* I’m the first one to read a book about a house with millions of hidden doors and even more hidden secrets about its owners. XD So yep, this is going to be fun. Hopefully.

9.) „Heartstopper: Volume Three“ by Alice Oseman

43449920. sy475

After all the darkness (or gloom and doom if you want to call it like that *lol*) I need something light and nothing is better than Alice Oseman’s „Heartstopper“! My library recently got volume three and of course I had to borrow it. I’m really looking forward to be reunited with Nick and Charlie! Because those two boys are precious!!! ❤ (Plus: The entire cast of „Heartstopper“ is amazing!!)

10.) „Love, Creekwood“ by Becky Albertalli

53239539. sy475

I wanted to read this for what feels like a lifetime and this autumn I finally decided to go for it! I need more of Simon and Blue and I’m really curious what happened after the two former books in the Simonverse! I guess this will be some sort of epilogue that will hopefully give me all the fluffy feels and will make me very happy. No high expectations and no pressure. Really, Becky! *lol*

Rankenzeile

So what about you? Which books are on your fall TBR and do we have some in common? Do you have special books you want to read for Halloween and if yes, are they very creepy? As you all know I’m a scaredy fox and I’m always looking for nice horror books that aren’t too heavy. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Talk to me and let me know!

And as always take care and stay healthy and safe! ❤

August Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Can someone please tell me where August went? O_o Over here the weather is already bad and rainy so it’s like autumn came in the blink of an eye and decided to stay. Which isn’t nice! I mean I love autumn and spring but I want at least a couple of nice days before it gets all wet and rainy. *lol* Anyway! Let’s get back on track!

So the good news is that my physical therapy is over now, the bad news is that I’m afraid it won’t last for all too long. I’m trying my best to do the excercises they showed me and I’m careful with my body but even this morning I woke up with pain so yeah… it won’t be easy to maintain an excercise routine without the pressure of doing so. Put work, my family and my kid into the mix and you have the … well salad. *lol* As for my reading. I was very ambitious and hoped that I’d read more in August but in the end I was too busy with other things and once again only managed to read 4 books.

The fact I have to get up at 5 a.m in order to get to work cretainly didn’t help to motivate me to read at night. XD Truth be told, I was glad when I managed to watch TV and didn’t fall asleep. Haha! For some reason reading makes me more tired than watching a k-drama with English subtitles. I still don’t get why my brain has no trouble to follow k-dramas but just can’t seem to manage to read a couple of sentences without getting tired. If you know why I’m like that please TELL ME, because I have no explanation for it. *lol* But enough of k-dramas and back to the books I read! ;-P

Books read: 4 (4 books & 0 webcomic, Still not overwhelming but better than nothing. September will be my reading month! I know it. *lol*)

Pages read: 1.639 (The four books I read had plenty of pages so I’m okay with this.)

Average rating: 4,13 (Not bad, considering I totally read out of my comfort zone. 😀 )

Books that were on my reading list: 0 ( 0 from 2019, 0 from 2020 and 1 from 2021. Well, at least one of them was from my TBR! XD)

August Reads:

43229540    18743272    44419441. sy475

53402029. sy475

Sawkill Girls: 4 Pfoten

This book came as a total surprise! I rarely read in the genre of horror but „Sawkill Girls“  was all over my feed and I got super curious about it. Looking at it in retrospective I’m so glad I picked this up because this book doesn’t only have strong friendships and even stronger girls but also challenges misogyny. Plus the icing on the cake: It was diverse and had good LGBTQ+ reps! Considering all this „Sawkill Girls“ had me hooked and I paged through it in no time. 😉 (This said, please read the trigger warnings in my review first before you decide to pick it up.)

The Raven King: 5 Pfoten

And here comes another book I loved to bits and pieces! I have no idea what it is about this series but whenever I start one of its books I just can’t stop to read it. It’s like some sort of addiction and I live and breathe for Neil Josten and Andrew Minyard! ❤ Those two boys will be the death of me! I swear! Especially with all the things that happened in this book! This book broke and killed me and urgh! T_T I just want my babies to be happy! *sniff*

One of Us Is Next: 4 Pfoten

It was so good to see Bronwyn, Cooper, Nate and Ash again! Of course they aren’t the MCs in here but they are side-characters and this made the entire book even more enjoyable! XD Plus Maeve, Knox and Phoebe were pretty cool MCs as well! I really loved to guess the culprit and I got about 50% right. The other 50% I would have never been able to discover so yeah. *lol* This was fun and I’ll definitely watch out for McManus’s next book.

The Eleven: 3 Pfoten,5

I got a review copy from Paul Gaskill himself and wanted to read this for ages but never got to it. (I’m a horrible person and book reviewer and I promise improvement! XD) This time I was finally able to tackle it though and „The Eleven“ turned out to be a great dark fantasy book. Be aware of the trigger warnings though, some scenes were pretty graphic and hard to stomach. At least for me they were. I’ll make sure to write a proper review about this soon so that you know what you’re getting yourself into. 😉

Rankenzeile

How was your August? Was it over way too fast too? How is the weather over at your place? (Hopefully better than over here…) Did you read many books in August and if yes, which ones? And the most important question: Does any of you know why I have no problem to follow k-dramas with English subtitles but can’t even focus on reading a single sentence at night? *lol* The struggle is real, my friends!!! T_T So yep!

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

July Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

How was my July? Good question. To be entirely honest July passed so quickly it’s like it began and was over in the blink of an eye. I was so busy, I have no idea how I even survived this month. *lol* We were 2 co-workers short at work so I had to commute every day, then commuted back to pick up my kid, went home and during the evenings I went to physical therapy. To say it was A LOT to handle wouldn’t even get close to the truth so yeah, it was … exhausting.

I basically fell asleep on my sofa and dragged myself to bed when I startled out of my sleep. Which is definitely not healthy. *lol* How come something that is supposed to be good for me was actually causing me even more stress? XD Anyway, let’s not overthink this. The bottom line is that I was so tired in July that I quite literally slept with my eyes open. (another thing the amazing Kim Taehyung and I seem to have in common. *lol* But seriously, our sleeping habits are uncannily similar… at least when everything you hear in interviews is true.)

So yeah, my exhaustion was no joke and it’s the reason why I only managed to read four books. Truth be told, I’m amazed I even managed to read those four. The good news is that I’m on vacation now and that I’ll use it to catch up on my reading. I really hope to finish HP 5 and one of my review copies soon. (Why do I always start so many huge books at the same time?) And before I continue to speak about the books I want to read, I’ll just talk about the four books I actually managed to read in July. ;-P

Books read: 4 (4 books & 0 webcomic, guess it’s obvious that I was pretty busy in July. >_< )

Pages read: 1.568 (Not all too much but I’m okay with it.)

Average rating: 4,13 (Even though I only read 4 books those 4 were actually pretty great. 😀 )

Books that were on my reading list: 2 ( 0 from 2019, 1 from 2020 and 1 from 2021. Is it just me or am I getting better at holding to my TBR? *lol*)

If This Gets Out: 4 Pfoten,5

I was so lucky to get an ARC of this and it was probably the best ARC I ever got from NetGalley. ❤ No kidding, I’m serious! The entire concept of the book with two boys from a boy band that fall in love behind the scenes was just amazing and then the two authors even tackled a lot of serious topics as well. Hands down one of the best ARCs I ever read! I really want a lot of people to read this! So if you are part of a fandom, love music, enjoy your books with a good LGBTQ+ rep and want to read about the music industry and mental health topics:  Just go for it!! XD (Especially you Taekooker’s out there!!! *lol*) I rated this 5 stars on GR and NetGalley and gave it 4,5 paws on here because I really would have loved the ending to be a little bit less abrupt … or well, I just wanted more of the story after.

I Wish You All the Best: 4 Pfoten

I think this was the first book I ever read that had a non-binary MC and since I’ve been dying to read this since 2019 I was really happy I finally tackled „I Wish You All the Best“. Ben was a really interesting character but the many things they had to deal with were just… a lot! Thankfully they had an amazing sister and awesome friends that helped them through the tough times. Not to mention the wonderful and precious Nathan Allan who is one hell of a cinnamon roll! ❤

Cress: 4 Pfoten

This was already book 3 of „The Lunar Chronicles“ and I enjoyed it immsensely! Cress and Thorne were so adorable and there happened so many things that my mind is still reeling! I really need to get to book 4 soon beause ahhh!! I just need to know how it will end! XD Cinder and Kai gave me life and I just want to have more of them in the next book. Plus I’m very curious about Winter and Jacin. Those two seem to be quite an interesting couple. Let’s hope I’ll be able to tackle „Winter“ soon!

Champion: 4 Pfoten

I finished this book about 2 weeks ago but I’m still not over the freaking ending!!! LIKE AHHHH! How could you do this to me Marie Lu???!!! Her endings always kill me and this one was no exception to the rule! Like it’s hopeful but at the same time it breaks your freaking heart and leaves you bleeding all over the place! GAH! How was your July? Were you exhausted too? Did you ever have to go through physical therapy and if yes did it help you? I can dance again so I take that as a win. XD How was the weather over at your place? In Austria it was super hot and we survived about 3 heat waves already. Did you read a lot of books and if yes which ones?

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

May Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

At the risk of repeating myself, May was another month my health wasn’t at its best. Tbh it feels like my body is putting me through a lot of trouble and I have no idea how I’m supposed to make it better. At the beginning of May my gums hurt so much that I had a sleepless night and went to the dentist the next day… Well, what can I say? My hurting gums turned into a full blown root canal therapy and for two weeks I was in immense pain. It’s better now but I’m still not done with the therapy and there are days it still hurts.

Well, and if that wouldn’t have been enough already a vein in my left eye burst and I looked like one of the zombies in „28 Weeks Later“. *lol* My eye is still red while I’m typing this and I really hope it will look better soon because it certainly doesn’t look nice on my BookTube video and kids apparently get scared by it. XD But that’s a story for another day. *lol* So yeah, the show must go on and I tried everything possible to keep my blog and BookTube running.

Aside from all the health troubles this May was also very cold and wet. Not that we could have done a lot because our country was still in lockdown until May 19th, but the fact the weather also sucked certainly did nothing to improve my mood. I just hope June will be more sunny and that all those health troubles will be behind me soon. For some reason my reading wasn’t affected as much as I thought it would be so I actually managed to read 6 books which I consider to be a lot under those circumstances. *lol* So if I’m already talking about books I might as well jump right into my monthly wrap-up, right? ;-P

Books read: 6 (6 books & 0 webcomic, one book more than last month and most of them were around 300 – 500 pages so that’s good!)

Pages read:  2.187 (This is definitely a better number than last month. *lol*)

Average rating: 3,75 (Is it just me or did I get picky lately? XD)

Books that were on my reading list:  5 (from 2019, 1 from 2020 and 3 from 2021. I’m kinda impressed I actually read books from all of my 3 book lists. *lol*)

May Reads:

42613330. sy475      36137954     53332023. sy475
52542477. sx318 sy475      13643876    29922149. sy475

King of Scars: 4 Pfoten

This book was not what I expected but it definitely surprised me! *lol* At first it was very slow and we got to know about the current state of Ravka and all the troubles the characters are facing and halfway into the book the plot took a totally unexpected turn and I was trying to keep up with it. XD So even though I really enjoyed „King of Scars“ it didn’t qualify to get all 5 paws from me. (I told you I’m getting picky. ;-P) Still, I can’t wait to read „Rule of Wolves“ and to see what is going to happen next, because quite honestly that ending THREW ME!!!

On the Come Up: 3 Pfoten, 5

I really enjoyed „On the Come Up“ and I loved to see Bri’s thought process and the way she came up with those amazing rap lines. =) It reminded me a lot of my own thoughts when I write my poetry so this was great. I guess the only problem I had with this book is that I couldn’t really relate to Bri and her actions and that took away some of my enjoyment. If you want to know more about why this got 3,5 paws from me you can read my entire review: here!

Broken Throne: 3 Pfoten

For a colletion of short stories this was pretty good. Some of them got 4 paws from me but others didn’t really do it for me so a 3 paw rating it is. (Yep, I’m definitely getting picky lately. *lol*) „Queen Song“, „World Behind“ and „Fire Light“ were definitely my three favourites. I was really sad there wasn’t more Maven in this and I definitely would have wished for… well, just more! *sighs* There would have been a lot of potential and just like in „War Storm“ it wasn’t used. =(

The Queen of Nothing: 4 Pfoten

And here we go with another book that surprised me! *lol* Seriously some of the plot twist in here hit me like a bucket of ice cold water. Like seriously! WTH? Haha! I still loved it though and was happy with the way this trilogy ended. Plus, I’ll always ship Cardan and Jude. Those two are the perfect enemies-to-lovers trope couple and the entire faerie aspect of twisting words and court intrigues only made me love this even more. ❤

The Ash-Born Boy: 4 Pfoten

I wanted to read this right after I read „The Near Witch“ but of course it took me a while to get to it. XD „The Ash-Born Boy“ was a nice addition to the main story and it was really good to finally get to know Cole a little bit better. I was very curious about his past and finally got some answers. I already suspected a lot of the things that were a part of this story, but others surprised me. A great short story if you want to know more about Cole. 😉

White Hot Kiss: 4 Pfoten

This was a reread and I paged through it as fast as I did when I read it for the very first time. *lol* So yes, I still love this and Roth and Layla are amazing! ❤ What I like about this book is that it’s about demons and wardens (which are some sort of gargoyles) and their war against each other. So this is a rather new concept for a YA book series and I really enjoyed that! Also how could I resist Roth’s charm? That boy is made of awesomesauce! XD

How was your May? Was it as wet and cold as mine? Did you read any of the books I read and if yes did you enjoy them? Am I the only one who’s turning into a zombie with a toothache and a red eye? *lol*

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

And as always take care and stay healthy and safe!
