June Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I think I haven’t read that many books for ages. *lol* Well, at least I can’t remember the last time I actually managed to read 8 books in a month. Certainly not ever since I started to do my monthly wrap-ups. XD So I guess book-wise my June was amazing! I suppose to commute to work more regularly might have helped to get back into my reading swing which is a really nice side-effect I never truly noticed.

Unfortunately commuting also caused me to visit my library more often and my borrowed books almost push the allowed boundaries of 25 items. (At the moment I have 22 books at home and my library pile never seems to get any smaller. >_<) I know I’m way too greedy but I just couldn’t resist all the amazing LGBTQ+ books I found on the shelves. 😛 As it seems our libraries are finally jumping on the train and I couldn’t be more happy to see so many of my beloved books. They finally get more new books in other genres as well and this is just awesome.

So yeah, I think my library pile won’t get smaller anytime soon. *lol* And speaking of LGBTQ+ books! I finally created my own The LGBTQ+ Rep Book Tag (Original!) and I’m so glad so many of you seemed to like it! ❤ A few of you already did it as well and I got a lot of new book recommendations I can’t wait to read. XD Thank you so much for doing my tag and for spreading the love! 😀 This means a lot to me and I love you guys so much! ❤

*clears throat* Erm yeah, before I go all soppy on you I better start with my Wrap-Up, okay?

Books read: 10 (books &webcomic)

Pages read:  2.452 (Yes, as usual I didn’t count the webcomic pages so that’s the actual page number only from the books. XD)

Average rating: 4,10 (Not bad! Guess ACOFAS is the only reason it wasn’t higher. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  2 (from 2019 and 1 from 2020, Funnily enough I’m close to finishing my reading list 2019 but not even moderately close to reading the books from my 2020 list! C’est la vie! 😛 )

June Reads:

20887238. sy475      18248613    42635580
43347332. sy475      36048256. sy475     33413128. sy475
42191365. sy475      20913559

Traitor’s Blade: 4 Pfoten

I’m so glad my „Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs“ blog meme caused me to read this because otherwise it would have stayed on my TBR forever and I would have never gone on that interesting journey! XD  I really liked Falcio and his two friends Brasti and Kest! Also I kinda loved that this was different than the other fantasy books I read?! The ending might have been a little abrupt but the rest was great! Can’t wait to read book two!

Warm Up: 4 Pfoten

This was only an additional short story to „Vicious“ but since it’s written by V.E. Schwab I enjoyed it immensely. This woman can write and just like with Maggie Stiefvater I’d even buy her grocery list. *lol* Those about 15 pages may not add a lot to the plot but the tension of the main character was amazingly done. 😀

Vengeful: 5 Pfoten

I just loved this!! It was so, so, so good! ❤ Seriously, If I wouldn’t have been Victor Vale trash already this book would have made me Victor Vale trash through and through. XD The chemistry between Vic and Eli is off the charts and I still think they would have made a great couple. *lol* Also I loved the female villains in this book and I was glad to see that they were able to hold their own against our two boys!

Bomb Boy: 4 Pfoten

Jay Grewal offered me to read his book about a year ago and I finally got to it!!! (Guess this says A LOT about my long ARC/review copy list and why I’m not accepting any until the beginning of next year >_<) Anyway, I loved Jay’s book and even though it was very painful to read I couldn’t help but admire the way he wrote it. This is one of those books that stays with you and the comparison to „The Kite Runner“ is getting pretty close. If you want to read more about „Bomb Boy“ you can do it here!

A Court of Frost and Starlight: 3 Pfoten

Me only giving ACOFAS 3 stars!!?? Yeah, I know that’s kind of a shocker but urgh there were so many things that rubbed me the wrong way, I just couldn’t help but write a super long rant review! *lol* I won’t go into detail here but if you actually want to know why I was so disappointed you might as well read my full review! I wasn’t all too kind (and that’s an understatement) though so don’t attack me with your pitchforks and torches, okay? *lol*

Always Human: 4 Pfoten

This was such a cute webcomic! ❤ I called it „the f/f answer to Heartstopper“ and I still stand by this first impression. XD Sunati and Austen where the cutest, the art was amazing and very colourful and the story just warmed my heart! If you’re looking for a sweet f/f webcomic you should definitely give this one a try!

Beartown: 5 Pfoten

There are books and then there are BOOKS!! This one belongs to the latter category and it totally destroyed me. I can’t even remember how often I flat out cried or at least had tears in my eyes while I read it. „Beartown“ is one of those books that leaves a mark and changes you while you read it. Every single sentence hurt, every page cut deep, and every paragraph let me lose hope in humanity and rebuilt it once again. Yet I still loved it! It will take me quite a while until I’ll be ready to pick up „Us Against You“ but damn, I’m so going to read this sequel even if it kills me. T_T

Black: Shades of your Soul: 4 Pfoten

Can you believe it? I finally managed to read another book for my „German speaking Authors Year“ challenge! YAY! I admit it, I was a little bit sloppy those last few months because our current global situation kinda made me a mood reader and I really couldn’t bring myself to read books according to plan. So yeah, it took me a while to get back to my initial plans but I don’t regret it because this was great! I paged through „Shades of your Soul“ in no time and I really didn’t know that German authors could write such great steamy mafia romances. *lol* If you speak German and want to read something addicting and fast this might be the right book for you! 😉 (Be careful though, the insta-love is strong in this one. XD)

Burial Rites: 4 Pfoten

This book is inspired by true happenings and it was quite an experience. Iceland in 1829 must have been a hell of a place to live at and I really loved all the detail that went into this story. Also this is a book that kinda sneaks up on you and then leaves you gasping for air. When I started to read it I was like: „okay, that’s interesting and nice but where is the gripping story I was promised?“ You won’t get action, you won’t get shocking events, but you’ll get the life story of a poor girl that had to survive the cold of Iceland. I never thought I’d cry at the ending of this book, but I did and it killed me. >_<

Where Tangents Meet: 4 Pfoten

This was another cute and fluffy webcomic! 😀 This time around actually an f/m one and I really loved it! ❤ Landon and Rachelle both carried some wounds from their past with them, but they learned to trust each other and they fell in love! Also the sibling relationships in this one were great and the art?! Amazing! Highly recommended!

How was your June? Did you read more books than usually as well? What’s the limit of your library card and are you constantly pushing it too? Did you like my „LGBTQ+ Rep Book Tag“ and are you planning to join the fun? XD What was your favourite book last month? And was I really the only one who was disappointed by ACOFAS? *lol*

Talk to me and let me know! 😉

May Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

May was one hell of a month… in more ways than one. *lol* I read so many books. Actual books not only webcomics, mind you. 😛 And this even though I went back to work as well. At the beginning of May I commuted to my office for the first time after almost 8 weeks and it was kind of crazy to be back at work… well physically at least. I was working from home all this time anyway. With reduced working hours due to short-time work but still. XD (And just in case you wondered: All my plants are well and safe! My colleague was so kind to water them while I was away! ❤ )

I didn’t only go back to work though! My library opened on the 18th of May and of course I was there on the 19th with my bestie! *lol* It was so awesome to be able to go to the library again. It’s like a sanctuary for me and I always go there when I’m stressed out or emotionally drained. When I need to find some peace. Ironically the one place that is my safe haven was closed during our Covid-19 lockdown and I think I don’t even have to tell you how stressed I was. >_<

Well, all that time away from the library and at home had something good though. I could actually read the books I borrowed and focused on my blog. For instance I started to go for a Top Ten Tuesday Topic once a month, began to host my own blog meme SASSY Saturday , finally continued with Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs and added a new signature to my already existing one as some of you might have noticed. 😛

Additional info to my sig.

I wanted to draw a distinction between my „male“ and „female“ side/days and therefore added „V. Ronan“ to the mix. That way you’ll know when I’m in a male (V.Ronan) or female (Virginia) mindset when I write my posts. I noticed this might be helpful when you refer to them. *lol*

And last but definitely not least: #BlackLivesMatter

”Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
– Martin Luther King Jr.

I wrote this blog post in advance but considering the current happenings I wanted to use my Wrap-Us as a way to show my support for the movement! There are a lot of things you can do in order to help! I won’t list them here, but I’ll give you a useful link: #BlackLivesMatter Everyone of us has a voice and we should use it.

This said: This was already a very long introduction to my Wrap-Up, so I might as well just begin to actually write it! *lol*

Books read:(books & 1 webcomic)

Pages read:  2.544 (I guess that number is only so high because ACOWAR alone contributed 699 pages. Which is A LOT! *lol*)

Average rating: 4,14 (That’s a pretty nice average rating, but then again all those books were 4 or 5 star reads. XD)

Books that were on my reading list:  1 (1 from 2019 and 0 from 2020, Okay! It’s obviously time to focus on My Book List 2020! >_< )

May Reads:

25522198   49202877. sy475    34503674. sy475
41998311. sy475    23766634. sy475     42933645. sy475

Blood Rites: 4 Pfoten

This is already book 6 in the series and I’ve to admit that it becomes more and more intriguing with every book that I read. And, let’s be honest here, also more dangerous for Harry. *lol* That poor man has a lot of trouble to go through but thanfully he’s never alone and has good friends that don’t only care about him but also help him to find his way. I can’t wait to read book 7. Well, as a matter of fact I already borrowed it from the library. 😛

Lumine: 4 Pfoten

This webcomic is one of the cutest things ever!!! ❤ Lumine is such an adorable and innocent furball and his friendship with Kody is legit the best thing about this webcomic! Also I love Kody’s father!! I read this on webtoons and couldn’t stop until I reached the ending. The temporary ending, mind you, because the comic is still ongoing. If you’re looking for a webcomic with great art, lots of heart, werewolves, witches, and many other supernatural things this one most certainly will be a treat for you. XD

When You Get the Chance: 4 Pfoten

This was my first ARC from NetGalley and I couldn’t believe my luck when I got it. I already added it to my shelves at the beginning of February and the cover as well as the premise of the book made me want to read this… badly! *lol* I’ve to admit that I kind of expected something different when I started to read the book but even though I didn’t really like the characters I still enjoyed the book! If you want to know more details you can always read my review here!

Nevernight: 5 Pfoten

It took me AGES to read this book, but it was my own fault because I wanted to savour every little piece of it. *lol* Which I did! Boy, did I love to read this book! I know the blogging community has varying opinions about „Nevernight“ but for me it was perfect! I like my books dark and twisted, with a lot of backstabbing, intrigues and dangerous people. What can I say? It’s the faerie and Slytherin in me. 😛 And let me tell you this, both of them were really happy and satisfied once I reached the end of the book. XD

Dry: 4 Pfoten

Everybody, literally EVERYBODY warned me to have a bottle of water next to me while I read „Dry“ and you guys really weren’t kidding! *lol* I got so thirsty reading this and I think I appreciate my water tap way more than I ever did before. XD This was such a good and fast read! I loved all the different POVs and I can’t help but wonder why not more people speak about this book! If you like dystopian science fiction books this should be right up your alley!

A Court of Wings and Ruin: 4 Pfoten

I really love this series but even my reread couldn’t help me to get over the many issues I had with this book. *lol* It still feels like Sarah had enough and just wanted to connect all the open threads regardless if it was harmonious with the rest of the series or not. XD Me being bitter? No way! 😛 Anyway if you actually want to read my 4.658 words long essay about all the things I liked and didn’t like you’re welcome to do it here! 😉

Five Feet Apart: 4 Pfoten

The topic of this book is really heavy and if I wouldn’t have seen the movie with Cole Sprouse ( *sighs dreamily* ❤ ) I probably would have never even known that there is a book. „Five Feet Apart“ was as sad and heartbreaking as I expected it to be, reading the book I got way more details about the daily routine of people with CF though. There are always some things that get lost while watching a movie and to read the book as an addition certainly helped me to understand the characters and their lives even better. I don’t know if the CF rep was done properly but the books purpose was to raise awareness for it and if you ask me they succeeded to do so.

How was your May? Did you read a lot of books? Were your libraries closed too and if yes did they open up again? Do you like the changes on my blog? Will you try out „SASSY Saturday“? April Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I think April was the month in which everything sort of settled down and my new reality became routine. By now we all got used to staying at home and waiting for everything to get normal again. (I’m not all too convinced „the normal“ we had before Covid-19 will be possible though. The world will have changed after this…) Anyway, we wore – and still do wear – masks when we go outside, we only spoke on the phone with our loved ones and we became pretty efficient when it comes to buying groceries at the supermarket. *lol*

The good thing is that the restrictions and our curfew were loosened slightly with beginning of May so it is allowed to meet family members and friends that live in another household! YAY! (To my chagrin my library and our kindergarten still remain closed… for now at least.)

So because of all that I had way too much time to read and didn’t only finish 5 books but also fell into the webcomic rabbit hole. And I regret ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! *lol* Seriously, those cute and fluffy webcomics were a balm for my soul and kept me sane! I’m going to introduce them in this Wrap-Up as well, but I refrained from using pictures because the creators/artists protect their work and we’ve to respect that. 😉 This said you can find them all on tapas and look them up if you’re intrested in reading them. At the moment they are for free. XD Okay, enough of my babbling and right to my monthly wrap-up!

Books read: 10 (5 books & 5 webcomics)

Pages read:  1.959 (I didn’t count the webcomic pages here because it’s pretty hard to gauge their amount. Suffice it to say: It were A LOT of pages! *lol*)

Average rating: 4,00 (Considering how much I read this is a pretty good rating. Guess April was a hell of a reading month. XD)

Books that were on my reading list:  2 (1 from 2019 and 1 from 2020, I need to read more books from my lists! T_T)

April Reads:

43819388. sy475      28962906. sy475      39674685. sy475
23403402. sy475      36048240. sy475

The Hate U Give: 4 Pfoten

This is such an important book and I really think that schools should put this on their reading lists. Angie Thomas wrote a book that tackles quite a lot of different and touchy subjects yet it still manages to convey its message. I really liked how she played with prejudices and the subjective opinons of her characters. XD If you want to know more about „The Hate U Give“ you can read my full review here!

Stalking Jack the Ripper: 4 Pfoten

I finally found out what all the hype is about and I have two words for you: Thomas Cresswell! *lol* This said I really enjoyed „Stalking Jack the Ripper“ and I’ll definitely continue to read this series. I’m always ready to dive into a fictional world that features a sexy Sherlock Holmes kind of guy and boy, is Thomas the jackpot! 😛 Plus I liked the bits and pieces of historical background that were woven into this. Made it even more enjoyable. XD If you click on the link above you can check out my review.

Wildcard: 4 Pfoten

I was soo sceptical when I started to read this. Don’t get me wrong I liked „Warcross“ well enough, but it didn’t blow me away the same way it did with other readers. You might say I had a few issues. *lol* Anyway, „Wildcard“ was such a surprise! I really loved to read this and the characters as well as their motivations were great! There were quite a few twists I didn’t see coming and that only made me enjoy this even more. 😀

EYES ON ME: 4 Pfoten

This was the webcomic that started it all. (Aside from „Heartstopper“ of course! I’ve been following that one for ages. 😛 ) Anyway, I found this on goodreads and fell down the webcomic rabbit hole! And it swallowed me whole! *lol* Those two are so cute and I really hope that we’ll get more pages soon! If you like a shy boy meets forthright guy story this will be the one for you!

R.U. Screwed: 4 Pfoten

Gosh!!! I love this one! Howie and Sooch are the cutest thing ever!!! ❤ Okay, admittedly this webcomic was very frustrating at first because Howie is gay and Sooch is as straight as they come and due to that there was a lot of angst in the first few chapters, but boy does it get better with time! This webcomic really grew on me and by now I’m so hooked that I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen next! I NEED MORE!

#muted: 4 Pfoten

The art in this is STUNNING!!! I love kandismon’s drawing style and her characters are so adorable as well. Moreover they are relatable as hell! I mean Jasper works at a library and meets Kai – a boy who doesn’t speak. The artist conveys so many emotions with Kai’s facial expressions alone and this is nothing but amazing! Also all the characters in here are queer af and I live and breathe for it! 😀 Love my two super soft boys!

Ghost Lights: 4 Pfoten

This is a webcomic made by a German artist and it’s great! I love that there isn’t only a love story but also a huge mysterious plot that’s revealed bit by bit! Noah and Robin kind of remind me of Ronan and Adam and the magical aspect of this only intensified that feeling. And as always the art is a sight to behold! 😉

A Darker Shade of Magic: 5 Pfoten

I read this book super slowly because I never wanted it to end! Of course my attempts to draw it out were thwarted by the awesomeness of V.E. Schwab’s writing style. There came a point I couldn’t put this down anymore and before I even knew it, it was already over. T_T  This book!!! I loved all the characters, especially Holland and the dark magic in this was EVERYTHING! ❤ So dark and twisted. Ahh what a pleasure to read! If you want to know more you can read my review here!

Still Me: 3 Pfoten

This was the third and last book in the „Me Before You“ series and even though I loved the first one and liked the second one, the third one just didn’t do it for me. Did I hang on every word and did I finish this 469 pages book in one week? Yes, I did. Did I get all the answers I was hoping for? Nope. Unfortunately not, if anything I was left with even more questions and I really wasn’t happy about that. I wanted closure and what I got was a bunch of new storylines and unfinished business(es). >_< Not my kind of book but maybe you’ll like it more?!

My Gentle Giant: 4 Pfoten

This webcomic is just sweet! There didn’t happen a lot yet except of that Jun and Aki became friends so this is a slow burn. They blush really nicely though and they are super adorable! I can’t wait to see more of the artists work! This just started and is a relatively new webcomic so I’m hoping to get more soon! 😉

March Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

Okay, not gonna lie here, March was a tough month. Not only book wise but also life wise. You might say one led to the other. When COVID-19 hit my country everything came to a standstill and our lives changed rather drastically. From one day to the next I stopped commuting to work, set up a home office and tried to work from home as best as I could. With a little kid that’s constantly around me because kindergarten is closed too and with my hubby on top of that March was quite a trying and exhausting month though.

I constantly found myself falling into bed right after work and was no good for anything. Thankfully my kid is still taking naps because damn I needed them badly too. *lol* Since the situation in Austria didn’t get any better (at least not up until now) I’ll be on short-time work from now on. So there’s that. More time to take care of my family, to cook for them and hopefully also more time to read and to blog? XD You can always dream, right? Now that my reading slump is over I’ll hopefully read more again.

One thing is for certain though: Now that I’m spending so much time at home my flat is super tidy. I swear it probably was never as clean as it is now! *lol* Or well, maybe it was when I moved into it 6 years ago and scrubbed literally EVERYTHING! 😛

On a side note: There happened something super amazing in March (understatement of the century!!) and I just need to gush about it, so please bear with me! *lol* It won’t take long, I’ll just mention that for some weird, crazy and completely unfathomable reason I ended up being number 99 in the Goodreads Global Top 100 of ALL FREAKING TIME! THANK YOU GUYS SO DAMN MUCH!!! I can’t even… O_o AKDFASDFJASKDFJSAKFSJDFKASJFD! Okay, that’s it, I’m fine. *faints*

OMG!!!!

Anyway, enough of my weirdness and musings and right back to the few books I actually managed to read last month! XD

Books read: 6

Pages read:  1.642 (Not as great as February but considering that I was in a slight book slump due to work and COVID-19 this actually isn’t all too bad!)

Average rating: 4,00 (That’s quite okay I suppose! I expected „The Death Cure“ to pull the rest of the books down, but apparently my other two 5 paws reads saved the rating. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  1 (from 2019, boy I really need to finish some of my books!! >_< )

March Reads:

34878431. sy475     7171637     13265138
43889556. sy475     7706484    33230173. sy475
Akairya: 4 Pfoten
Abrianna Leaming was so nice to give me a free copy of her book and I enjoyed it immensely! 😀 Yes, it might have taken me way too long to get to it but once I did I kind of rushed through it. This was a great fantasy middle grade book and if you like dragons, magic and elfs this might be the perfect book for you. 😉
Clockwork Angel: 5 Pfoten
Ahh it felt so good to be back in this world! I wanted to reread this series for ages and I finally started with the first book! What can I say? I still love Will, I still adore Jem and Tessa is as great as ever! All those bookish discussions, the characters and their interactions. Amazing! If you want to read my full review on this masterpiece you can do it here!
The Death Cure: 2 Pfoten
I kind of expected not to like it and unfortunately I was proven right. I really enjoyed the first book but from „The Scorch Trials“ on this series just didn’t make any sense. (at least not for me) In the last book there was no aim and no purpose, the characters would say one thing and do another and urgh… that kind of irked me big time. This felt so aimless that I just couldn’t give it a better rating. Truth be told, Minho and Newt were the only reason I kept on reading and that definitely wasn’t enough! >_<
Thank God I’m Fired: 4 Pfoten
Another review copy from an author I appreciate and hold in high regard. 🙂 You might say Sandeep Pawar is an own voice when it comes to IT topics and to say he’s a funny voice would be a huge understatement! I really enjoy his books because they aren’t only fun but also show the human side of IT and this in a very entertaining way. So if you’re interested in this sort of thing, search no more. Sandeep already delivered. 😛
The Last Olympian: 4 Pfoten
Ha! I loved this! Uncle Rick once again proved why he is a genius and one of the best authors to read when it comes to Greek Mythology! This was quite action packed and definitely held my attention until the very last page! A worthy final for a great series! I wish I could read „The Heroes of Olympus“ now but unfortunately my library is still closed. T_T So for now I’ll just have to wait. (Dang! I wanted to read about Nico di Angelo so badly!! He’s my precious son and I love him to pieces! ❤ )
The Summer Palace: 5 Pfoten
I can’t believe I waited 3 years to read this! But then again I can and boy, was it worth the long wait! *lol* I loved this short story so much and it was everything I ever wanted for my two boys! ❤ This was the ending I would have loved to read when I finished „King’s Rising“ and it made my heart sing with joy! I just love, love and LOVE Laurent and Damen! They are everything! XD

Rankenzeile

How was your March? Did you manage to read more books than I did or were you in a reading slump as well? Are your libraries closed too? And if yes, where do you get your books from now? How’s the current situation at your country? And the most important question: Are you still healthy and okay?!

Talk to me and let me know!

Also on a last, rather serious but still optimistic note: Stay healthy and take care! ❤ We can get through this and if we stick together we’ll come out of it stronger than before!

January Wrap-Up

Wrap Up

I guess January was a fairly normal reading month for me. Five to six books seems to be my normal amount per month so I can’t complain. I feel like I was super lazy though. *lol* I recently discovered the series „Lucifer“ at the library and since they have the first three seasons I decided to borrow them from there. (Yeah, I don’t have Amazon prime if that’s what you were thinking. XD)

So a lot of my usual reading time actually went into watching „Lucifer“ instead of reading the hell out of my books. (With a kid you only have limited free time and you’ve to choose wisely how you spend it. ;P) Thus less time for reading. >_<

Apparently I still got some reading done (mostly at night) and here I am with my 6 January books. (Something tells me February will be even worse because it’s a much shorter month…) Also can someone tell me that I finally need to get my „Nevernight“ groove on!? With all those library books that need to be read I didn’t pick it up for ages, which is bad because I actually liked the beginning.

Anyway, let’s stop complaining and head to my statistic! 😉

Books read: 6

Pages read:  1.903 (6 books and 1.903 pages is actually a pretty decent start for 2020! 😀 )

Average rating:(Funny, I think I never had an even number without a decimal before. *lol*)

Books that were on my reading list:  3 (2 from 2019 andfrom 2020! Yes, you read right!! I actually already read one of the books that’s on my 2020 list!! XD I’ll rock this list!! I’m sure of it! XD)

January Reads:

18216592    34879283__SY475_    37880094

31814812__SY475_    32596757__SY475_    22037424

Stealing the Wind: 4 Pfoten

Don’t judge me! I barely read any smut last year so I kind of craved it at the beginning of 2020. *lol* And as smut goes this was actually a pretty fine book. „Stealing the Wind“ was the first book in an m/m mermen series and I was surprised about the focus on the plot. The beginning was rather strange but once the story accelerated I found myself enjoying this immensely. So if you ever wondered how mermen do the nasty live together this might answer your questions… thoroughly! 😛

One Day in December: 4 Pfoten

This book was such a surprise!!! It was on My Book List 2019 because someone recommended it to me last year and I can’t thank that person enough! This was such a sweet love story. Yes, there were some things I wasn’t okay with but the issues were addressed (which is more than I can say for other books) and the ending was absolutely beautiful and perfect! If you want to read more about this book you can do it here!

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy: 4 Pfoten

I absolutely loved this! Feminism, strong women, decent reps, mystery, dragons, adventure… the list of what this book had to offer is long! 😉 It might have been a brick of a book but buy was it fun to read it. Also Monty and Percy had a cameo and they are still as adorable as they were in „The Gentleman’s Guide“! I can’t wait to read book 3! XD

Green but for a Season: 3 Pfoten

It was about time I tackled this short story. I always wondered how Aimeric and Jord ended up together, but unfortunately this book didn’t really deliver what I hoped for. Their love story was only a small part of the storyline and this just wasn’t enough for me. On the positive side, this had a lot of info about young Laurent and how he became the person he is in „Captive Prince“. So there’s that!

The Upside of Unrequited: 4 Pfoten

This was a typical Becky Albertalli book and it definitely made me feel all the fluffy feels. ❤ There were some things I didn’t like about the book though so it actually got 3,5 paws rounded up to four. If you want to read more about my issues with „The Upside of Unrequited“ you can do it here.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: 5 Pfoten

Harry Potter! Do I have to say more? *lol* Once again I was amazed by all the details I missed when I read it for the first time. There are so many things that make sense now! Also Lupin is the best DADA teacher they ever had and I love him to bits and pieces! Plus I realized that „Movie Snape“ and „Book Snape“ are two very different people! And if you ask me „Book Snape“ just can’t be redeemed! There I said it! XD

German speaking Authors Year & My bookish New Year’s resolutions for 2020

German speaking authors year 2020

Hey there, my lovelies!

What the hell is a „German speaking Authors Year“ might have been the first question that popped into your mind when you saw my banner. And I can totally understand it. *lol* Well, I guess you want an explanation now, am I right? 😉

So here it goes: I recently had a chat with a German reviewer and we realized that even though there are many great German authors that sold plenty of books most of them are still vastly underrated and never get the attention they deserve. Some books of them are even translated into 15 different languages, yet they are barely known in other countries.

So I thought, why not dedicate an entire year to find those hidden gems and to bring them to your attention? Maybe some of you might even want to join me and discover some great books as well?! You never know! XD

In order to keep some sort of system that won’t interfere with My Book List 2020 I decided to categorize my „German speaking Authors Year“ into quarterly challenges.

January – March: Romance & Science Fiction

April – June: Fantasy & Young Adult

July – September: Historical & Classics

October – December: Horror & Thriller

I’ll try to read as many books of German authors that fall into those genres (knowing me that will be quite a challenge…) and hopefully this will work out somehow. *lol* I’d love to see some of you join me but it’s also okay if you don’t and only live through me. 😛

If you actually decide to participate (which would be awesome btw!!) please make sure to link back to this post though. I’m a very curious person and I’d love to see which kind of books you choose! Who knows, I might even discover great new German authors I never even heard about. 😉

Anyway, if I read a German book and write a review about it I’ll make sure to use my banner. That way you’ll always know that it’s part of my challenge. Also if you resolve to  join me, feel free to use my banner as well! The more the merrier! XD

This said, let’s head to the second topic of my post:

My bookish New Year’s resolutions for 2020:

– Don’t read more than 5 books at the same time! (Ha! Did you notice that it were 3 books last year? In 2019 I always ended up reading at least 5 – 7 books though, so I’m really trying to get a grip on that. *lol* Apparently the litte time I had left still didn’t keep me from reading way too many books at the same time… Still, if it are more than 5 books it takes me forever to finish them so I’ll really do my best to keep it at five!)

– Don’t add more than 290 books to my TBR pile. It are 287 at the moment, but I still want to get the number down to at least 275. Since I was off way worse last year (302) I actually almost managed to reach that 2019 goal.

– Read the books I already own!! (There are so many books on my bookshelves and on my e-reader and I finally NEED to read them!! >_< *giving myself the stink eye*)

– Don’t borrow more than 3 books from the library! Just kidding! *LOL* There’s no way I can only borrow 3 books from the library and I know it! Last year I even managed to exhaust the maximum of 25 books. *facepalm* Let’s say… not more than 15 at the same time? (and even that will be hell! XD)

– Stick to My Book List 2020 and finish My Book List 2019! This is going to be fun! *lol* (Me being sarcastic? No way! 😛 )

– I want to continue with my blog meme „Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs! And I definitely want to write more discussion posts! XD I have so many ideas, I just have to find some time to write them down.

– I might try to create an own book tag. I have no idea in which direction it will go, but I feel very creative and 2020 might be the perfect year to get out of my comfort zone and to try new things. 😉 Now that my blog is somewhat established I feel ready for it.

– Get 250 followers on my blog. 😉 It could happen! Oh and I want to host another giveaway once I hit that number! I enjoyed doing the first one so much and I loved to prepare the parcel for the winner! It was so much fun and it made me so happy to send it away. 😀

– Reorganize my physical bookshelves. They need another makeover and my LGBTQ+ section became so huge that I’ve to think about how I want to arrange it. *lol*

– Start an Instagram? Make a short video? Or get more involved in other social media. I dunno! There are so many options and I have no idea where to begin. XD What do you say? I’m sure you guys have a lot more expertise than I do. 😉

– Relocate some of my longer reviews from goodreads to my blog. The word limit seems to become less and less and I’m worried about all those long reviews I wrote over the years. Maybe one day they’ll just delete them because they are too long and after all the effort I put into them I can’t let that happen. *lol* So over the next year there will be weeks I might post thrice in order to resettle them here.

– And last but not least: Go through with my „German Speaking Author’s Year“!!! 😀

So, enough about me!

Considering it all, I wasn’t doing all that bad with My Book List 2019 and I’m pretty sure that I’ll continue to scratch out the remaining books of my old list in 2020. 😉 To post it on here definitely helped me to read the books I planned to read and it kind of forced me to keep to some sort of reading schedule. (Which is definitely a good thing when it comes to me. *lol*)

Anyway! What about you? Did you already read some of the books on my list or are you planning to read them in near future? How many books do you want to read in 2020? Are you looking forward to some of those new releases too? Let me know!
